There is only one quality team in Scotland.

Some would dispute that, but it has always been Celtic and Rangers.

However, it's not important the team Onyekuru is being courted by is a top team. And a very good launch pad for greater and bigger things. Furthermore he will not be a bench warmer playing most likely on the wing. He also has a quality manager in Brendan.

When I look at the selection of players by Rohr, which I don't completely blame him for. It seems we have regressed by twenty years.

Consider, the teams in the past we had a forward line that was playing in the top teams in Europe. Now it's like we are picking up players in predominantly in third rate teams some even playing literally youth football.

What's happened.

You can say the same thing about Brazil. When you consider Ronaldo, Romario, Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos, Gilberto, Dunga, Ze Carlos, Cafu etc, compared to the Brazilian list today.

Italy with Roberto Baggio, Del Piero, Christian Vieri, Albertini, Vialli, Paolo Maldini etc to what we have today.

Even England. Compare today's team with the Golden Generation.

Your proposition is open to debate.

From the perspective of top clubs in the world with regard to Brazil nothing has changed. Romario was playing for Barcelona so also is Neymar. So also is the entirety of the Brazilian team playing for top club sides more so than ever before.

Compare Nigeria Ikpeba -Monaco, JJay -PSG, Taribo-intermilan, Kanu - Arsenal, Oruma-marseille, Obagoal-Inter Milan, Yekini -V.Setubal (top goal scorer Portuguese league) Yobo -Marseile & Everton, Amokachi Everton, Oliseh, Finidi, Babangida, AJAX and Amunike - Barcelona , etc, etc, take note none of them were fringe players but main established players.

Compare that to the present crop of players WE HAVE GONE BACKWARDS we have fringe and youth players in the Green Eagles. Some from third rate league and Obscure unknown clubs.

I didn't see the formation they played in the second game so I can't decide like that.

In some teams when one roams the other sits, in other teams one sits permanently and the other roams permanently. You do understand that the job description of a roaming dmf isn't far away from that of a box to box ,that's what Etebo was doing in that game, playing as a roaming dmf/box to box hybrid to contain the Algerians .

it is not every single box to box that arrives like that into the box. Iniesta has been deployed as Barcelona's box to box a few times this season yet he hasn't scored a goal from there or even attempted a shot at all because he'd rather stay in midfield and control. in that game we needed to control the midfield to starve Mahrez
You're talking like someone who doesn't know Wilfred Ndidi's position.
Do you really have to see the formation to know which position Ndidi plays for Genk?
Just admit it, you've not watched Ndidi that much. Because if you have, you will not doubt his short comings which is maintaining position and concentration levels. Nobody has it all.

Your tirade everytime on Onazi is totally unfair. Your point of view that he's always out of position is an over stretch and sometimes bordering on a myth.

Uche Agbo is a very promising player. I particularly like the fact that he can play both Dm and CB. The tactical flexibility he will bring to the table is something to look forward to.
I would like to see him pair Ndidi as CBs. Them both will make a highly mobile and athletic CB pairing.

What's your point exactly? We've been on the back foot for the past 10 years despite AFCON 2013, and now that it seems we are getting back to our standard though gradually, u still complain? Those guys u mentioned almost none made his debut or started turning out for Nigeria a star player. It is a gradual process so don't act like u a wisecre. The boys are growing and this is the right time to get them integrated. That said, we really need to do more to keep churning out big name players. U are simply pissed that Rohr didn't call up any of those innit boys who are expecting us to prostrate to them before they consider us. I have been following u silently on this thread for sometime now and ur love for those average, proud englanaija guys is overwhelming. My dear, we go with the ones we have.

Victor Moses Signs New Deal At Chelsea, Becomes Highest Earning Nigerian Player In Europe

Victor Moses has today signed a new contract with the Blues reportedly worth over 100, 000 pounds a week. A figure which makes him the highest paid Nigerian player in Europe.

The 26-year-old has established himself as a regular in the side this season, playing an integral role in our pursuit of silverware under Antonio Conte.

Upon signing the two-year extension to his deal, which will now run until 2021, Moses said: ‘I feel very excited. I’m delighted to be here for another few years now and to sign a new deal. Now it’s time to concentrate on the team and keep working hard to make sure we win games and try to win the Premier League this season.

‘We’re having a great season, I’m enjoying my football and we have a good manager here that has given every single one of us confidence. I just want to keep on enjoying it and working hard for the team.’

Technical director Michael Emenalo added: ‘We are extremely pleased Victor has chosen to extend his contract with us. He is enjoying an excellent season and, under Antonio’s leadership, has proved to be an important member of the squad.

‘This new contract is testament to Victor’s hard work and dedication to succeed at Chelsea and we believe he will be a big part of our future success.’

Young players tend to be over zealous sometimes.
I remember Mikel used to commit lots of fouls and accumulated a lot of yellow and red cards earlier in his Chelsea career.

Kolo Toure was a bit of nut case too when he first arrived at Arsenal. In a trial game session he tackled Dennis Bergkamp so hard that Denis was injured for awhile. In the same training session, he took Arsene Wenger out with a tackle that he needed an ice pack. He was still signed up by Arsenal and the rest was history.

What am saying is that players like this can be managed properly and their aggression controlled, with the right manager though.

Barcelona Linked Victor Moses – I’m Enjoying My Game And I Just Want To Keep On Improving

Chelsea wingback wizard Victor Moses who has been heavily linked with a move to Catalan giants Barcelona has spoken out about what he needs to do, to keep his spot in the good books of coach Antonio Conte.

‘It was a big boost for me but the most important thing is the team,’ he tells the official Chelsea website. ‘We all worked very hard and enjoyed the game against Middlesbrough. It was a match in which we had to graft in order to get the three points because we knew we would go top of the league if we won.

‘We just have to keep believing in ourselves. I’m enjoying my game at the moment and I just want to keep on improving.’

In recent weeks the understanding between Moses, operating in the right wing-back role, and Pedro, who has been playing further forward on the same flank, has really begun to blossom.

The pair linked up well once more at Middlesbrough, as they had done in the preceding fixtures, and Moses is enjoying playing with the Spaniard.

‘We’ve been working hard on it in training,’ he says. ‘Pedro has been playing really well, he’s getting used to the Premier League and he understands the game very well. He’s enjoying his football, scoring a few goals and helping out defensively as well. I like playing with Pedro, we have a great understanding between us and it’s working well for the team.

‘He’s a great player and he’s won everything so you have to respect his achievements. When you come to a new country it can be difficult but he’s got to grips with it now and he’s doing well. The fans are enjoying what he brings to the team and we’re all pleased for him.’

Rohr Replaces Mikel With Ndidi In Eagles Midfield For Senegal, Burkina Faso Friendly

According to reports gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com Gernot Rohr has concluded plans to replace injured captain Mikel Obi with Wilfred Ndidi in the midfield when Nigeria take on Senegal and Burkina Faso in two highly profile games this month.

As reported by Owngoalnigeria.com , Mikel the captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria have been granted permission by Rohr to miss the upcoming friendly ties, to allow him settle down at his new club Tianjin Teda of China.

To that effect Ndidi who has in the past replaced Mikel in the Super Eagles midfield during competative games will be handed a start against Senegal and Burkina Faso.

Ndidi’s form for Leicester City has been one of the bright side of a dour 2017 for the Foxes, and he could line up in the midfield alongside Ogenyi Onazi and Oghenekaro Etebo who will play just behind the main striker.

Leaked- Rohr Reopens Talks With Enyeama Over Eagles Return

The search for two good goalkeppers for the Super Eagles of Nigeria has forced coach of the team Gernot Rohr to reopen talks with former captain Vincent Enyeama over a possible return to the team.

Ade Ojeikere revealed in his report for The NationSport that Rohr has been very impressed with Enyeama’s recent form for Lille which has seen him nominated into the team of the week in France severally this season.

Rohr on his part is also not comfortable with the options he has as back up to current first choice Carl Ikeme, and unconfirmed reports has it that he has tactfully reopened talks with the 33 year old.

Few months ago, Rohr ruled out trying to persuade Enyeama to return to the Eagles citing the refusal of the goalkepper to take or return his calls, a claim Enyeama termed as false in a response to Owngoalnigeria.com story on Rohr’s claim.

However it appears Rohr has patched up his differences with Enyeama and talks are currently progressing nicely on his possible return from a self impose exile from the Nigeria national team, after a disagreement with former coach Sunday Oliseh.

Some members of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) who are aware of his contact with Enyeama over a return to the team are not opposed to the idea, since selection of players rest squarely on the coach.

Ndidi Proves Alexandar Song Right With Latest Goal Against Strommen IF

Little known Nigerian forward Olie Ndidi showed why Cameroonian star Alexander Song praised him few days ago with a goal for his Norwegian side Mjondalen IF in their 1-3 loss to fellow Norwegian side Strommen IF.

Ndidi lasted the entire duration of the game, and was once again one of the best players on the pitch for his side as they continue their build up to the start of the league in Norway.

Few days ago, the 22 year old Nigerian earned praises from former Barcelona and Arsenal star Alexander Song for his display when he came up against him in a test game against Rubin Kazan.

Still trying to settle down to life in Norway following his move last life, his current form in test games will gladden the heart of the technical crew of Mjondalen IF, as they aim to gain promotion to the top division in Norway.

I believe Rohr should extend an invitation to Adebayo Akinfenwa for our crucial match against Cameroun gringrin

Strongest Nigerian Player Ever Hits Purple Patch In Front Of Goal For English League Two Side

Wycombe Wanderers 34 year old Nigerian forward Adebayo Akinfenwa scored twice to help them draw 2-2 against Accrington Stanley in a League Two game.

The goal continued his newly found vein of form in front of goal as it was his 6th goal from his last seven league games, his best run of form for a while.

Akinfenwa now has 10 goals this season from 30 games in League one, proving how lethal he is even at the twilight of a career that has seen him play for Northampton Town, Gillingham, AFC Wimbledon and Wycombe Wanderers.

Despite having never played in a division higher than League One in England, the striker is widely known all over the world thanks to his beast-like physique and enormous power. The 33-year-old can reportedly bench press 180kg – that’s nearly twice his own bodyweight. Such strength is virtually impossible to match in professional football, which is perhaps why he has previously been mistaken for an NFL star.

Guardiola List Areas Iheanacho Must Improve On To Have A Future At Man City

Kelechi Iheanacho could spend more time on the bench of Manchester City unless he improves on certain areas according to manager Pep Guardiola.

Manchester City FA replay tie against Huddersfield on Wednesday evening, was largely believed to be the game where Iheanacho will finally be handed a chance to force himself back into the plans of the coach but that appears not to be the case.

Speaking ahead of the match, Guardiola said: “Kelechi now isn’t playing for the last games. It’s a pity for him.

“But I like normally one striker, not two. Of course, when Sergio was injured, players play the game. But then Gabriel came and Sergio didn’t play, so the space is what it is.

“But it is going to happen this situation with Gabriel so Sergio can’t play all the games and, of course, he [Iheanacho] is going to help us.”

Guardiola also said Iheanacho didn’t need to impress him to get back into the team: “I know his quality,” the manager added. “I know, of course, he’s young and has a lot of things to improve – especially in winning duels and be strong in some positions.

“But he’s a guy who, in the boxes, is really good. He likes to come a little bit out of the box to play, but arriving at the right tempo and attacking the first post is amazing.

“So, as a guy, he doesn’t need many, many chances to score a goal.”

Ex Celtic Manager – People Have Forgotten What Efe Ambrose Did For Celtic, He Has Quality

HIBERNIAN head coach Neil Lennon has accused Efe Ambrose’s critics of “deleting four years of history” as he launched a passionate defence of the much-maligned stopper.

The 28-year-old, who not played a competitive match since Celtic were beaten 1-0 by Lincoln Red Imps last July, has joined Hibs on an ‘emergency loan’ deal and could make a quick-fire debut against St Mirren this evening.

While his progress stalled in recent campaigns under Ronny Deila and Brendan Rodgers, Ambrose was a regular under Lennon, starring in a run to the Champions League last-16 in 2012/13 and impressing in wins over the likes of Barcelona, Ajax and Spartak Moscow.

Regardless of his high-profile errors in recent campaigns, Lenny reckons believes many snipers have short memories.

He said: “He has quality. He has been at Celtic for four or five seasons now and, while it maybe hasn’t gone as well as he would have liked in the last couple of seasons, under me he was fantastic.

“I think the first four years of his time at Celtic have been deleted from history, with the way people talk about him now. This is a guy who played in all my Champions League games and made the last 16.

“People always talk about the mistakes he has made of late, the high profile mistakes, but we have all made them. I have made plenty! I played with Bobo [Balde] who had a few in his time – but I don’t think he gets derided as much as people tend to mock Efe.

“What I want to do is get him back playing and being successful for us and then go back to Celtic full of confidence.

“Efe was a guy who was at the heart of a lot of unbelievable results at Celtic. He has won the African Nations Cup with his country so he has great pedigree. He is only 28, he is at his peak and he will be fresh because he has not played much football recently.

“We are very lucky to get him. I also think it is a coup for us that he wanted to come.”

Why Rohr Called Up Youngsters Osimhen, Awaziem, Ebuehi & Sarenren-Bazee For March Friendly

The reason behind the shock omission of some senior players of the Nigeria national team from the list of players for Nigeria’s friendly tie against Senegal and Burkina Faso has generated lot of talks.

Owngoalnigeria.com gathered from sources close to the German coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr, that some senior players were omitted as the coach wants to give opportunity to the young players at his disposal.

The need to give opportunity to players like Chidozie Awaziem was partly the reason why Rizespor’s Godfrey Obaboana was omitted in favour of the FC Porto defender.

Victor Osimhen was preferred ahead of the likes of Anthony Nwakaeme who is the top scorer in Israel where he plays for Hapoel Be’er Sheva, while Isacc Success has always been in the plans of the manager.

” This is a friendly game, and the manager wants to see the young players he has been monitoring for a while. We have to give them the chance to stake their claims for shirt. It’s just so normal”, the source told Owngoalnigeria.com.

Possible Reasons Why Gent Anderson Esiti Lost His National Team Spot After Zambia Clash

The none inclusion of Gent of Belgium powerhouse Anderson Esiti in the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming friendly games has generated lot of talks among soccer loving Nigerians.

Owngoalnigeria.com editor takes a look at the possible reasons why Esiti was once again snubbed by Gernot Rohr despite his fine form for Gent both in domestic and European games since the start of 2017.
Although the defensive midfield role of the Super Eagles appears to be the sole preserve of Eddy Onazi, other players who are playing at a much higher level with years in the team are partly the reason why Esiti is not in the team.

Key to his exclusion is the variety of options available to the coach, especially players who can play in more than one role like Shehu Abdullahi and Wilfred Ndidi unlike Esiti who is only best as a defensive midfielder.

Furthermore Granada of Spain midfielder Uche Agbo who although is listed as a central defender can also play as a defensive midfielder and all of this players are ahead of Esiti in the pecking order of Rohr.

Esiti’s poor turn of pace is also another factor which could be the reason why he is no longer in the team despite playing a part in Rohr’s first competitive game against Zambia, the 2-1 win in Ndola in their first World Cup 2018 qualifiers.
