No deployment, no stipend. That's what they said. So we may not get any stipend for December, January and February except we protest.

We want to use this medium to appreciate everyone that came to LTV 8 blue roof today for the supposedly meeting with Governor Ambode.
Although we weren't able to meet the Governor, but I can categorically tell u guys that Npower has come to stay in Lagos permanently as opposed to contradictory statement from some people that the program has been hijack or silently killed by some particular individuals. I will be brief with our achievements of today.

1. Npower Lagos state current issues regarding the program will on news through the following station Ontv, Galaxy, TVC, LTV and core media.

2. Our protest today will be on mostly all the newspapers tomorrow or next including NAN.

3. Our invisible Focal person addressed us today not only that, two vibrant member Lagos state house of Assembly also spoke to us and willing to assist us in making sure we are fully settle by the FG (Jan and Feb stipend) btw now and next week Friday

4. Our focal person has also assured us that posting and posting letter will be ready next week Friday by God's grace.

5. Lastly, I want to say that the focal person is at risk of losing her job if all promise made are not fulfilled because we now have underground agencies working for us to make sure our demands are meant.

You can watch the rest of the action by listen to news from the listed TV station stated above or get tomorrow's paper to know more about today's demonstration.

Good evening all, I want to brief the house on the outcome of today's protest.
Volunteer corps gathered at the conveying point and took off with the procession, marching straight to Lagos state house of assembly with placards written inscriptions like " Lagos state should pay us our entitlement", " Lagos npower volunteers have not been paid etc.
The protest kicked off in early hours of today and volunteers were locked outside because the security agents refused to grant us access to the premises but after series of shouting and demanding for fair hearing then a member of Lagos state house of assembly came out and addressed us pleading that we should calm down and wait for a while that they have called the focal person to address us so we waited and after a while a Toyota white bus drove in to the premises and she came outside to address us.
She made a long speech that was not really acceptable to us which attracted so much noise, the things she said include: " that the list of verified candidates was purposely delayed to accommodate those who have errors during the verification exercise. That her office is seriously working on npower issues, that soon everything will be sorted out. That we should not be expecting Dec stipend cos we didn't work for it. But after so many reactions from us, she was forced to tell us that our list has been sent to Abuja last week Tuesday and we should be expecting our stipends soon. Again, that our posting will be coming up by Friday next week and she ended with us and left exactly 2:26pm. But few minutes after she left, our representatives including (Mr Felix) were called inside Lagos state house of assembly and of the house of assembly members reassured us that if nothing is done with in two weeks that they will intervene and help us. We demised exactly 3: 12pm and everybody went home. Attendance were encouraging and we achieved our aim cos there was strength in our number. You can check out for this protest demonstration in 'THE NATION NEWSPAPER'

N-power members protest delay in posting, salaries

Some members of the Nigerian Volunteer Corps, N-power, on Tuesday protested against salary delay and the continued delay by the government to post them to ministries.

The protesters, who stormed the Lagos State House of Assembly complex, displayed placards with inscriptions, ‘N-power Lagos; release our stipend,’ and ‘Lagos State volunteers are tired of staying at home,’ among others.

One of the protesters, Mr. Felix Ayorinde, demanded the intervention of the state Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, and Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

“Ambode should emulate other governors that are giving additional stipend to the N-power participants apart from the salary being paid by the Federal Government,” he added.

A lawmaker, Gbolahan Yishawu, who represented the Speaker, said the House would address the issues.

He called the focal person for N-power in the state, who works in the Ministry for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Olusola Falana, to address the protesters.

Falana said the programme started late due to a technical problem which was made known to the beneficiaries.

“We are working on the deployment of participants. We want you to be posted to relevant areas of your discipline, “she said.

No fewer than 500 successful applicants of the Federal Government’s N-POWER scheme in Lagos on Tuesday stormed the State House of Assembly, seeking intervention on their deployment and payment.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that youths who applied to be captured in the scheme had earlier staged a protest at the Assembly premises in January.

They had complained that successful applicants in other states had started enjoying the scheme while they were still in the dark about when it would begin in Lagos.

The House had taken up the matter by inviting the State Coordinator of the scheme Mrs Shola Falana and the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs Lola Akande for explanations.

Honouring the invitation, Falana had assured the House that applicants from the state would begin to benefit from the scheme by the end of January.

She attributed the delay in the take-off of the scheme in Lagos to the volume of applicants from the state, numbering about 11, 000.

However, protesters returned on Tuesday chanting songs and displaying placards with various inscriptions to drive home their grievances.

The placards had inscriptions such as: “Lagos State N-Power volunteers are tired of staying at home” and “Only Lagos State N-Power are excluded from the programme, attend to us”,

Others read “Release our stipends” and “Enough!!!, No information , No device, No deployment, No stipends,”

The leader of the protesters, Mr Felix Ayorinde said the applicants in Lagos were not being treated fairly.

“We do not know why the Federal Government has decided to exclude us in this state. Throughout December, we were not verified.

“We have done verification after our first protest to this House in January, but we have not been deployed, given our devices to work with, and have not received our stipends.

“We are in the dark; since verification, we have not received our payment. We want the House to intercede on our behalf so that we can be posted and paid.

“Other applicants in other states have been deployed and have been collecting their stipends since December. We are tired of staying at home, we are hungry,” he said.

Ayorinde blamed the coordinator in the state for not providing information to the aggrieved youths.

Addressing the protesters, the Speaker of the House, Mr Mudashiru Obasa, said that the House would not allow anyone to cheat successful N-Power applicants in the state.

He said that the Assembly would further investigate causes of the delay.

Obasa, who was represented by Mr Bisi Yusuff, the Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts (Local) said: “We will not allow anybody to play on your intelligence. Lagos House will not allow that.

“We know what you are going through. We are not happy; be assured we are with you. Lagos should be considered first because of the role the state plays.

“We are not happy; we want these unemployed youths paid promptly with all the arrears. We have heard you and we will act.”

NAN reports that N-Power is a Federal Government programme aimed at creating jobs for youth, especially graduates. Interested applicants are to apply through the website opened by the Federal Government.

Successful applicants are expected to be deployed to different primary places of assignments across local governments and are to be paid N30,000 monthly stipends.(NAN)
