May we never be as naive as he was. May we never make the mistake he made when he disbanded the regional governments and founded the Unity government we have now. History will never be fair to him because of this seemingly simple but humongous mistake. Happy Birthday Aguiyi A brilliant Soldier Continue to RIP 1 Like |

He allowed tribal sentiment to becloud his judgement; he should have killed 'kaduna' Nzeogu and his gangs. He did not kill them because he was very much aware of the coup. He introduced a system of government-Unitary system- on tribal sentiment which is still the bane of our development till today. He is not my hero! The event that led to the civil war was entirely Igbos fault and this man was one of those people to be blamed for it. Who were those people celebrating the death of Sadauna of Sokoto, Ahmadu Bello (killed by Nzeogu) on the street of Kano ! ? Igbo people of course! We need truth and Reconciliation commission to truly address some of these issues so as to move forward as a nation. My Hero of that era was the military Governor of western Nigeria,Fajuyi who chose to die along side his boss-Ironsi. The Counter coup plotters actually wanted to spare his life. Fajuyi was a loyal officer and a true 'Omoluabi'. 5 Likes |

Princewell2012:Which source do you need again go to their wiki pages you will see it there. Buhari was born in 1942 and joined the military in 1962, Ironsi was born in 1924 and was head of state in 1966. They are not mates in age and rank. |

Christane:He was the Highest in Military rank at then, even Ojukwu was Gowons senior officer. That was why Ojukwu refuse to recognise him as the head of state, because it breaks military rule. And take note, Aguiyi Ironsi is the only Battle-Made General in West Africa till date, who was decorated a General by Britain in the Congo war. 3 Likes |

bakynes: Ironsi was not killed because he did not execute the coup plotters, he was killed because he was an Igbo man from the south. It can take over a year to courtmatial and bring coup plotters to justice, Ironsi was killed within six months. If Ironsi had been a Hausa/Fulani Northerner, do you think his brothers would have killed him because he did not execute the coup plotters? Of course not. Let me give you another example. Major Ademoyega and Captain Ben Gbulie where amonngst the ring leaders of the coup. Gowon did not execute them but kept them in jail for years after which they were released. Why didnt the Northerners kill Gowon for not executing Ademoyega and Gbulie just like they did to Ironsi? Because Gowon is a Northerner. Ironsi was killed for being an Igbo man, plain and simple. The Northerners have fought , tried to remove or killed any Southerner who became or tried to become head of state They killed Ironsi (Southerner) They chased away Brigadier Ogundipe (Southerner) who should have been head of state after Ironsi When Murtala Mohammed was killed, Obasunjo should have automatically taken over. The Northerner offered the position to Danjuma who refused. Obasunjo only became military head of state because the North had no other highly ranked officer (thats why Yaradua was given double promotion to Brigadier and made Obasunjos deputy) Have we forgotten MKO Abiola? He was kidnapped and slaughered like Sallah Ram because the North could not stand the fact that a Southerner won elections. Shonekon was kicked out after barely 3 months. Obasunjo and GEJ were fought by the Northerners throughout their civilian regims. Something similar is starting with Osibanjo. If Buhari is no more today, you will see how the North will bring down pressure on Osibanjo to resign, and if he doesnt, they will hound him for the rest of his tenure. These are the many examples to show that the Northerners have fought every southerner who ever entered or came close to entering State House. So anyone who thinks that the Northerners would have had no problems with Ironsi if he had executed Nzeogwu and co is a fool. Yes Im sure that some Northerners were angry at Ironsi for not executing them, but this was not the reason they killed Ironsi. They killed him to get power back to the North 5 Likes |

back2sender: What was his action. He was the most senior officer then, so by the army code of operation, he was suppose to be the head of state should their be any military takeover. The problem was that the Hausas where used by Britain who called it an Igbo coup to instigate that the gbos want to take over Nigeria. so they started killing all the Igbos in the north. |

kingthreat: So you think it was the North that defeated Biafra, for you myopic mind, my friend go and thank Britain and Russia oh, because if not for their selfish interest in oil that made them had an unholy alliance with you guys, we would have used ogbunigwe to end your race. Take note Britain is no longer in charge of UN Security council, and there relevance in world politics has officially droped since the BREXIT result. So don't think Briatain would be there to save you again. And you know that Russia now is an Anti-Muslim government with the able hand of Putin. So be guided. And we have social media. The reason why the worl was silent when we were murderd was because they were blinded by British lies. 4 Likes 1 Share |

OROSUNBOLB: You yorubas should purge yourself of the urge to peddle falsehood all over the place. 1) Ironsi was never aware of the coup, your brother coupist Ademoyega who wrote 'why we struck' even confirmed that Aguiyi was sleeping in offshore boats instead of Govt house in Lagos after the 'Igbo coup' due to fears of insecurity. How can a General plan his own insecurity? 2.) Fajuyi never insisted on dying with Aguiyi, he was also marked for excecution like Ironsi, only yoruba revisioists and academic frauds sell that garbage. Fact is, yorubas had fewer soldiers in the army, coupled with your history of cowardice, Hausa and fulanis knew you wouldn't do more than sitting like puppies even if all your leaders were killed in yorubaland. These are the pure truths! Enlightened people like us will not allow you to deceive people and get away with it. We will whip you back into the line of truth. 2 Likes |

winj3: He abolished the regional system, including resource control, in order to selfishly concentrate and consolidate power centrally to himself and his Igbo kinsmen - never imagining northerners could fight back. Southerners, particularly from the SS & SE complaining and clamouring for restructuring and resource control should not forget that the bane of the their present woes started from one of their own and not from the north. Students of history would also tell you that: the selective killings of northern leaders and army officers in the Igbo led 1966 coup, Ironsi's failure to take action against the coup plotters, dissolution and unification of the former regions by decree 34 under a unitary system (the basic structure we have inherited till today) and Igbos public celebration, taunting and mocking of northerners over the brutal cold murder their leaders (the Sardauna, Balewa & co) in Jan 1966 Igbo coup, were together a culmination of the factors that led to the counter coup, the July 1966 northern riots and reprisal killings of Igbos, and ultimately the civil war in which even more Igbos died. In short; Igbos opened the Pandora's box and are the root course of all our wahala today. 5 Likes 3 Shares

gartamanta: You are highly intelligent. That's why I laugh yorubas who think osunbade will have a smooth ride if he is made a President by doctrine of neccessity. He might not face problems from the south but expect intensified bombings from the north. The way the zoo structured, when a president from a region gets into power the other opposite region makes all kinds of troubles and keeps him busy till he get distracted, fails and leaves or is booted out of office. The north started it, they got their sharia by being violent during Christian Obj's regime and other regions like the Niger delta have learnt that violence when asking for political concession in zoogeria and simply followed suit. That's the kind of zoological country mor0nic zombiegerians are begging to unite with, so as to 'move their empty zoogerian skulls forward'. Then you begin to wonder 'do these people really have working brains?" |
