I am currently in the process of renewing my Nigerian passport to enable me apply for visa renewal. My former passport was in my maiden name so was the visa. But I wish to do a change of name for my passport. My question is, would the change of name affect the renewal of my visa negatively and would I still be eligible for Dropbox visa renewal. More grease to your elbow for the beautiful work you are doing on here. I have scheduled an interview for my B1/B2 visa, planned to go for a 3-week vacation in New York. I have been to Australia for my masters degree and New Zealand for vacation and back to Nigeria now. Australia and New Zealand issued me label-free visas for the purposes stated above. By label-free, I mean no visa labels were attached to my passports by immigration departments of these countries, instead, I had my visas sent to my email address which I printed out and carried along in transit. My passport was stamped at the point of entry to these countries.
My question is, for my forthcoming B1/B1 visa interview in Lagos, do I download, print out and come along with the Australian and New Zealand visas as extra proof of travel to these countries, being mindful of the fact that documents are rarely checked during US visit visa interview, or do I come with only my passport that has the entry and exit stamps by the CBP of these countries?

NB, I have visited other countries apart from the ones above and have their visa labels on my passport.

2. I have a car I gave to someone or hire business and he remits 15,000 weekly into the account in bank B which amounts to N60,000 monthly.

3. I have a blog which earns average of $100 monthly and I recieve the payment via a USA account I have with payooneer. I can print the details from my payooneer account.

My question is this, what are my chances for been successful in the application?, I intend to spend just 2 weeks and return back to Nigeria cos I'm not ready to settle in USA at the moment.

And also, I am having a virgin passport, no travel history. And I don't want to go through any agent due to rumors of fake documents they attach for people that leads to ban. Thanks.

Hello democrat4. That's a long, unfortunate story, but I don't see a question in there. The visa allows you to knock on the door of America, but only CBP can determine whether and how long to let you in. They don't turnaround people lightly and without cause. Wherever you are traveling in the world, it's behooves you to have a concrete plan of what you are going to do there. It sounds like your plan was found wanting.

I had a terrible experience in new York airport. I was refused entry. Reason been my relative address had changed from when I applied for the visa. I was supposed to stay for 13 days. The officer tried to contact the number and address on the form without success. My uncle had told me his wife will receive me. The number he gave me was that of the girlfriend in new York and I think that's where the problem started. The reason for this I guess its because of the wife's attitude problem. But the officer new she was not exactly the wife. When he went tru my uncles status he was able to get his wife number

Hello makforex. If you were a beneficiary of your wife's primary application, then you were both denied and you should mark "yes." There is no shame in this, and being open about it will benefit you in the long run.

I was married in lbadan but l don't want US consulate aware of this. If l don't show the consulate a license how could he or she find out l am married?

Hello esterhharnu. We don't engage in education or marriage advice. Everyone must qualify for a visa on their own merits. Having a spouse in the US is a powerful incentive to immigrate and a high hurdle to overcome in applying for a non-immigrant visa.

Hello Diapearl. Name changes due to marriage do not have a negative effect. Be sure to put down your maiden name in the "other names used" part of the application.

Hello AntyLydia. We are aware that some visas are electronic and not readily apparent by looking through the passport. If you think this Australia and New Zealand travel is an important component of your application, just be ready to discuss it intelligently at the interview.

For sometime now I have been an avid reader of this particular forum and based on the knowledge I have gathered from this forum I filled my form DS120 myself and correctly to the best of my knowledge. I had my interview this morning unfortunately my application wasn't successful despite been 100% sincere with my application , intent and answers to question asked during the interview. Nevertheless the whole time spent at the consul was insightful and totally worth it.

The interview was somewhat brief. Below is the transcript,

VO : What do you do do ?
Ans : I'm a fashion designer/Tailor
VO : How long have you been doing this ?
Ans: Since 2009
VO : Do you do this full time
Ans: Yes
VO : Have you traveled out of the country before?
Ans: Yes to Benin Republic & Togo other than that I haven't had any genuine reason to be out of the country.
VO : What are you going to do in Texas.
Ans:I'm going for my cousins wedding scheduled to hold 25th of this Month. Will be there for 5 days.
VO : Unfortunately you don't qualify for a Visa


The reality is that I'm 30, Educated, Single with a viable business and a 67 year old Mother back home. There's no way I would abandon this for the US. At least from what I understand the VO has reasons to believe I wasn't sincere about my intention to travel for the wedding and return as stipulated on my application. My question to you goes thus. Considering I'm not planning to get married anytime soon. Suppose a year or two from now the need arises for me to reapply for a different reason entirely. Should I just refrain from applying for a US Non-Immigrant visa until my status changes. Thanking you for your kind response.

Hello bolton12. First of all, I'm sorry you had a disappointing experience. Honesty is paramount, but it is also expected from applicants, i.e. there's no special prize for telling the truth. Our law is written such that applicants must overcome the "presumption of immigrant intent." This is kind of an aggrandizing concept--that as soon as a visitor steps foot in America, he/she will do anything to stay for the rest of their life. But there is also the reality that a number visitors do just that. So successful applicants are able to demonstrate economic, social or cultural ties that will compel them to return home after a short stay.

As for applying again, we always say that you're welcome to at anytime. But if nothing material has changed since the previous interview, the result is likely to be the same. Best regards.

You said by your law every applicant is an intending immigrant until s/he convinces the interviewing otherwise. Documents are rarely checked and how can an applicant convince the officer with just 3 questions asked?
