Igbos have maintained this tradition for centuries. Our Igbo brothers and sisters have not yet complained becos we dont expect to take land with wife. First they complain about Bride Price becos they are not use to it, they expect her family to foot the bill becos they are doing them a favour marrying their daughter. Now these none igbo that have been allowed to marry from us accidentally, contrarily to our tradition want land too. unless am no longer on earth will that happen. many will die. 1 Like |

ChopBellefull: ON SECOND THOUGHT, UR POST OFFERS AND INSIGHT. IN UR POST, U ARE QUICK TO REMOVE HER FAMILY FROM SHARING OWNERSHIP OF HER PROPERTY. U ARE QUICK TO CLAIM OWNERSHIP OF HER PROPERTY. YET U EXPECT HER FAMILY TO WILL PROPERTY TO HER AND BY SO DOING WILL THEIR PROPERTY TO U. THIS IS WAT THE IGBO CULTURE IS AGAINST. IN IGBO CULTURE, IT IS THE HUSBAND PROPERTY THAT BELONGS TO HIS WIFE AND NOT THE OTHER WAY ROUND. THAT IS WHY THE IGBO WOMAN IS NICKNAMED ORIAKU... OBIAGELIAKU! Igbo means 'consumer of wealth' UR WIFE PROPERTY BELONGS TO HER AND HER CHILDREN, IF NOT, IT REVERTS BACK TO HER FAMILY, NOT U. 1 Like |

I am confident igbo will outlive their enemies. They will continue to think about us, whilst we continue to think of how best to grow and develop. No wonder Osinbanjo said, with Aba, the whole Nigeria have no business with China. #Igbomade!# http://www.herald.ng/nigeria-no-business-china-aba-developed-osinbajo/ |

The story was not complete because they do not say where the land she bought was located... If the land is within his fathers compound or kindred, She has no right over it. I believe she is married outside his community. So she can't build a house within and be living with her husband there while she is suppose to be living in her husbands place. She can only come back to her fathers place and stay if she is being pursued from her husband place. |

Family, Tradition, male and female child. If l'm the sister's husband, l will quietly advice my wife to forget that land and let it go for good of the parties involved. Yes she brought the land with her money but in who house and on whose surname. Everyone in this particular case is right for different views but the tradition must be respected and adhere to. ln lgbo land it is rare for a lady to be given a land as inheritance, whether her money was used to make the purchase or not. |

Adebowale89: I dont care about Yoruba? I am never going to stop being igbo and be yoruba. In fact, yorubas are a nuisance to me, that is y i support Biafra. Secondly, U think u love our daughter more than us? U think we hand property to girls that are not our own daughter becos we hate women? Go and get ur head checked and check-out of igbo affairs. Think about ur own community. |
