Bro abeg I nor get power, let me stick to the devil I know this time around jeje i.e. same doctor, same hospital, same documentation process. The only things I plan to change are my external paediatrician (cos I found a cheaper alternative) and accommodation (you already know that story).

I've been following Temmyo and YoungMetrosG's posts amongst others and I've found that Doctor's Hospital (which is now Baylor Scott & White) is a bit cheaper than the Baylor in Carrollton "over all" especially if you opt for epidural.

My doctor isn't necessarily cheaper than theirs but it all evens out at the end when you factor in the other bills.

olokings:

6 UPSIDE DOWN 9.... you are very much on your own in that one... you no hear say I dey in sabbatical?!...
No 4 gboza in today's economy?.
Abeg dollar wee come down to N168 again by the time I'm crossing the seas again.
Shay u know ppl travelled in 510#-1$.

Don't worry I'm sending u ahead to find one sweet deal there dem I wee come.

PS: check out Baylor & Scott Carrollton. I think there's also one "medical kini-kon-kini" like dt in Carrollton. They got great deals..like way less than doctors' yo know.

Hehe

Don't know about other cities but Houston yes

Pick up your birth certificate on your way home upon discharge from the hospital. Schedule your passport visit downtown too for the next day or the day after if you are exhausted from pushing

Go to downtown pick up same day or next

Everything ready by day 3 of discharge aka day 5 of the baby's life.

That's how iv done it for my two babies

Thank you so much madam. Am in Houston and DW will start pushing in couple of hours. I will follow ur steps and go by them and hopefully before next week Friday we will get things sorted out. Thank you.

Please Houston mamas especially those around Houston NorthWest, what mode of transport did you use to the passport office downtown, and vital records office as well? Since its quite a distance from that area?
Also what mobile network is affordable for calls and data?
Thanks a lot!

I would advice you reapply and say you are going for a meeting and go with evidence to support this eg invitation letter for the meeting etc. The important thing here is that you use the visa for that meeting, any other purpose you decide to use it for after that is left to you.
For your own peace of mind you can try lagos

Hi Temmyo,

I had my daughter at Baylor Scott & White, White Rock in September 2015 (formerly Doctor's Hospital at White Rock Lake) and I'm planning to use them again come October.

My total medical bill was $7,031.08 inclusive of doctor's fee, hospital fee, epidural, hospital paediatrician, two visits to the external paediatrician, lab tests etc etc. You can check my previous posts for the breakdown.

How's your son by the way? Kisses to him. He's my birthday mate kiss

with my little knowledge, it is none of the VO's concern if you later travel after using the visa for the purpose of the application(the official meeting) so i believe you do not need to worry yourself over that- Question 1

Right about the GC thingy. Still holding off putting in my application, can't be travelling every 6 months to mark register. When person dey make better money for here. It's not like some of us don't have the opportunity to live in the abroad, but no be everybody the thing dey shak like that. Nigeria is no better, but we like am like that. For now at least. Maybe later in the future, something will change.
We are not happy that Nigeria is the way it is. But what can we do? We can only try to keep making it better and discourage dishonest behavior. For now, it is our country. Every country has got its own issues. The US with guns and senseless killings and others like that.
When I hear people throwing the "I live and work here" in people's faces, I laugh. Me sef dey UK for 3 years after school, na Nigeria i still end up. All my DH immediate family live in the US except him, I know how they all complain about life over there. I will now be wondering, what am I now running to do there permanently?

But people will not understand that some of us no really send. Born the pikin here, born am for there o, last last e go get blue kpali one day. Na time be the thing.

I agree with you..we need to understand telling the truth can and will get you a visa..I applied for B1/B2 Visa with my wife in 2015 but i did the right thing by applying for medical visa for her for child birth...
Many people discouraged us that they will most likely deny us ...In fact in her application her duration of stay was 5 months ..Consular asked us the usual questions.....and we said the truth..to have our baby...we showed him email conversation we had with the hospital and we were granted the visa...i stayed for two weeks and she stayed for 5 months as planned.

She even went again last year 2016 with our baby and POE asked how long she will stay and she told him 4 months and she had no issue..of course expect to show them Zero balance of medical bills...

We renewed our visa last month via dropbox and we were not called for interview...

Guys, we need to change our orientation..Its not a crime to give birth in the US ...Consulars are well trained and they know all this things...
Lucky you...still boils down to grace and favor
My elder sister did all she was suppose to do
No medicaid,no discount, had zero balance, didn't overstay etc and they still challenged her wen she travelled the second time..she was called for interview and drop box....

My understanding is that Qatar will book hotel for you if your layover is over 8 hours, unless you bought their promo tickets. If the layover is over 10 hours, they will even throw in meal vouchers.

That's what my family got on our trip. We got hotel to and fro and had meal tickets on the return leg

Hello Nefertitiram, my itemised bill shows there was a discount which I paid. So the VO will see i got a discount so Del Sol wrote a letter of non-indebtedness for me stating the discounted bill was what the hospital offered to self pay patients paying cash and that medic aid was not used to pay any of my bills.

Will this be a problem?

nefertitiram:

If you ask me, that zero balance statement does more harm than good, especially if you got a discount. So just take your rexiept, agreement and itemized bill and make sure they all tally.

Depends on how heavy the discount is. Not the one that your bill is 20k and the discount is 18k! Lolz

twoods, can a U.S. expat self-pay? my cousin is due and she has been making calls. We tried to get Marketplace Insurance for her but once they hear she is a USC with no income in the U.S., she is turned down and told she is eligible for low income Medicaid (she's a housewife/small scale business owner in Nigeria due to a few conditions). She would rather stay in Nigeria and file after birth but checked quite a lot of laws and it seems sensible to go abroad.

she's paid taxes in the past as a low income earner.

As a USC but with no income one the states, it is correct, she's not likely to get insurance. She should use Medicaid rather than self pay. Save herself some money.

If it works like emirates' it's not necessarily promo tickets only. But if there's a flight with a shorter lay over and you choose to pick the longer layover, you won't get a hotel. But if the layover is more than 7hrs, I think the law requires them to give accommodation. It might be different for other airlines o. But I'm sure about emirates

Good day house. I've been a silent reader for sometime. In the spirit of giving back, I have come to share my experience so far.
I applied for my visa before I joined nairaland. Luckily I stated my intention, a friend encouraged me to.

My visa interview.

I'm sorry I won't be able to write the visa interview word for word. I was already showing during my interview. I was asked reason for applying, I said childbirth (I applied alone).
I was also asked where I work, what my husband does for a living, how much my budget is, I answered 15k dollars because then I booked an apartment on extended stay, whether I have correspondence with the doctor, I said yes. I had from 3 different doctors. why I chose Houston, I answered that it was based on a recommendation from a friend and colleague. It was only my doctors correspondence he asked to see. He then said congrats, pick up your visa in 3days and was handed the white paper. Not to forget to add, I prayed wella and asked God for favor.

My flight.

I finally booked airfrance using travelstart after searching and searching because they gave me the best combination though quite expensive. I needed the shortest possible flight.
Lagos - paris- Atlanta. My final destination is Nashville in Tennessee. So a friend helped book the connecting flight. The direct flights I saw were too long. Wasn't sure I could manage that but next time I will manage o. Spent plenty money on ticket but considering my health and big tummy, it was worth it. In-flight entertainment from Naija was just there but the air hostesses were on pointed . Showed me free seats to lie down and sleep well. So I slept through out to Paris. The flight to Atlanta was on point. 10hrs but no free seats to stretch my legs. Had to manage somehow.

On Pta
Got pta of 4k on the 28th of Feb from gtb after many denials from other banks because my accounts there weren't up to 6months old. Applied the day before. Twas favour working for me.

On my visa application I stated I was going to Houston because then I've not been able to reach my uncle in Tennessee. I cancelled the hotel reservation after the interview. When I finally reached my uncle. I got hospital correspondence from a hospital in Nashville. He helped me with the name of the hospital in his neighbor hood. Contacted them via facebook, Nashville is not very popular. The y replied and sent me a number to call for their bill. I called and was sent one via email a day before I travelled on the 28th of March. God answers prayers. So I was armed with my burden of proof.

Poe experience (Atlanta).
I completed a form I was given while boarding d plane to Atlanta. Was sent to the self service machine. I declared food cos I carried plenty things but all dried. Printed my completed form. Joined the queue. Before then I had gone to d rest room to pray for favor and to thank God for a safe flight.
When it was my turn. This was the discussion.

CBP: Hello
Me : Hi ( smiling cos he was looking at my intimidating tummy) travelled at 34wks
CBP: Wow, are you having twins?
Me :no just one
CBP: can I have your passport,
Me: I gave him the passport, printed doc from machine and the one I completed with a pen.
CBP: where are you headed (still smiling)
Me :Nashville.
CBP: how long will you be there?
Me: 2 and half months.
CBP: how much do you have on you?
Me : 6k usd
CBP: stamps my passport for 6 months. Do you have food. I nodded.
CBP: do you have meat and vegetables?. I said yes I have dried vegetables.
CBP: hands me my passport and d printed doc where he wrote A. Meaning Agriculture.
CBP: Enjoy you stay smiling.
Me : thanks.
It didn't last up to 5 mins. That was God.
Saw my boxes as soon as I got to baggage claim
Went to agriculture. They asked me to open the box with food. I did. They checked . I labelled every thing. I had them packed in a ziploc bag. He checked and asked me to close my box.
That was all. Nothing was seized.

Got to Nashville on the 2nd at night. So I'm still resting from my trip.
Will be back with my hospital and delivery story soon by God's grace.
I looked though this thread for anyone with Nashville experience but didn't get any.
This is just to encourage someone.
My uncle and family are so sweet. I will do my part. Just as I've learnt here.
Sorry for the long post.
