Nigerian Film Industry is Thrash by Thashen(m): 4:31pm On Mar 02, 2017 |
I've seen a lot of Nigerians bragging about Nollywood being the second largest film industry in the world, generatimg billions of nairas per annum, but why is it none of the Nigerian movies has ever received any international nominations? South African movie industry is not second, or third largest film industry in the world but it's a force to be reckoned with in the international market! Here is a list of South African movies that won international awards. Tsotsi Tsotsi won the 2005 Academy Award for best foreign language film and was nominated for the Golden Globe for best foreign language film in 2006. District 9 District 9 received four Academy Awards nominations, seven British Academy Film Awards nominations, five Broadcast Film Critics association nominations, and one Golden Globe nomination. Long Walk To Freedom The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original song ; U2’s Ordinary Love . It also received 4 golden globes and won a globe for best song. Yesterday Yesterday (played by Leleti Khumalo), was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 77th Academy Awards, as Best Film at the 3rd Pune International Film Festival in India. Inaugural Human Rights Film Award at the 2004 Venice Film Festival, Awards for Best Sound, Best Make Up and Best Editing at the 2005 African Movie Academy Awards and Nominated for Outstanding Made for Television movie at the 2006 Primetime Emmy Awards. Spud The film was nominated for six South African Film and Television Awards, including Best Cinematographer (Lance Gewer), Best Editor (Megan Gill), Best Sound Designer (Barry Donelly), Best Feature Film, Best Lead Actor in a Feature Film (Troye Sivan), and Best Supporting Actor in a Feature Film. For Love and Broken Bones Won the Portland Film Festival’s main award, Best Film. Sarafina Nominated for the Tony Award for: Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Choreography, and Best Direction of a Musical. Hotel Rwanda The film won a number of awards including those from the Berlin and Toronto International Film Festivals. Four corners Felix The list is endless. Nigerians should focus more on quality than quantity. And learn how to pronounce English words properly and correctly. How will you receive international nominations when you still pronounce think as tink, and thirsty as tasty? 1 Like |

I think there are two major problems with blacks- the first is stunting and the second is inferiority complex. Until a white person tells you that you are good, you don't believe you are good. 1 Like |
