PROPAGATING MANGO TREE FROM ITS CUTTINGS.
Mango can be propagated in many different ways which may include seed, stem cutting, grafting and tissue culture. Among these methods the common one is raising the seedlings from seeds. Though this method tends to be easy and cheap, it has many disadvantages which include: a) Lack of canopy control, b). Difficulty in disease management, c). Difficulty during harvest, d) Inappropriate for commercial production e). Long years before fruiting (8 -12 years).
Another method of mango propagation is through tissue culture where a part of mango tree(leaf, stem or flower) would be cultured in a laboratory to produce young plant seedlings. The cost and logistics requirements of this method has made it unpopular even to Agriculture professionals .
One method that is fast gaining popularity is the grafting method. In this method , the farmer cuts a stem from another mango and affix it to another mango tree .When the plant clocks 2 -4 years it start production from the foreign stem.
Currently grafters at the Splashagro nursery(www.splashagro.), Ossah in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, Nigeria is pushing the boundary in mango cultivation by producing seedlings from stem cuttings. In this process they condition the tiny stem cutting to root in 6 days .This method though technically savvy is the neatest, shortest and less time consuming method adopted by the nursery company based in Ossa Ibeku in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State Nigeria. A ll seedlings produced this year will start fruiting in 2017/2018 mango season.

Making seeding from stem cuttings does not look like a fantastic idea to me.

fruit trees are normally grated by combining two trees that have different advantages.
The tree forming the root system is chosen from the local area to ensure it can withstand the soil borne diseases that may want to attack the root system, while the plant forming the shoot system is chosen from a tree that has the fruiting characteristics we want.

By rooting the shoot you are avoiding using a plant that has superior root system, you are only concentrating on the plant that has good fruiting characteristics.

Plants rooted from the way you are doing will fruit well as long as they do not succumb to soil borne diseases. This is very risky path to follow for a fruit tree that normally have very long life span.

Imagine what will happen 5 yrs down the line if a plantation of your fruit trees come under attack from soil borne diseases because you concentrated only on a nice shoot system.

My brother; you have a point but let me clear one issue. Grafting as well as stem rooting are propagation technique that are practiced for different purposes.
Rooting a species of an excellent root system will not change because it was rooted from the stem. The fact remains that if Plant Q has a good/soil-friendly root system; the genetic factor that predisposed plant Q to such quality would not change because you rooted a plantlet from the stem.
moreover when you match the timeline of a monoembrayonic grafted mango and a monoembrayonic stem-rooted seedling for 12 calendar month the soil grip; branches and trunk development are same .

We used IBA (indole butyric Acid) . Though you can use NAA. However remember to keep your medium moist and the plant humidified by enclosing with a transparent nylon held NY a rubber band.

Mango farming can be done with complete organic. Mango is the major fruit crop in India contributing highest to economy both in production and export.

Nigeria is the 7th producers but far from export as ithe fruit is not even enough for local consumption. This is a great opportunity for Investors and entrepreneurs...
