do you actually know the "kind of tranny" she was referring to.,.......there are actual humans born with male reproductive organs (penis), hence tagged as male at birth, who start developing breasts during puberty......

but transexuals are as a result of transplant

Thanks for the correction sir. I thought it was about the transplant people.

Now that I'm enlightened I'll say these are humans who are not responsible for the way they are. That's why It's something to be treated sensitively. Ms Adichie's opinion still remains hers though I think it was a bit harsh due to her firebrand feminism. I personally haven't formed an concrete opinion about it.

This girl is way too opinionated. She comes across as really arrogant. She never mentions the benefits that come with being a woman, such as people treating you better, easier to get a job, state support in domestic conflict, alimony rights, child support rights etc. In the US and the west in general, men go through hell following marriage conflict. Many guys have been thrown out of their homes because of their wives. A woman can even call the police and claim falsely that the husband beat her, and the cops will come in and arrest, and lock up the husband with no evidence, pending trial. Can u imagine if the reverse were the case? Chimamanda would have hanged herself by now.

The problem with Nigerians is partly low IQ. This lady has made herself and is continually making herself. One illiterate from nowhere comes to nairaland to label her 'craze' and all sorts of names. Clear sign of conflate medulla damage.

Nonsense. She isn't that popular. In fact, no one knew her in America until Beyonce featured her speech. Stop talking thrash.

There is a greater chance of Buhari being banned from America than chimamanda being deported.
I don't think even Trump can handle the female outrage and protests that would sweep throughout America.
She is one of America's greatest female idols of the 21st century. She does not have a citizenship, but she has never really needed it and would get it if she wants
It is actually very silly and ignorant to think that she commands more influence than the president of the most populous black nation on earth. If she wants citizenship, she'd have to go through the process that every other foreigner goes through. Use your sense abeg. 21st century icon ko, iconoclast ni. Nonsense!

The confused woman acknowledges the difference between trans woman and born women but refuses to acknowledge the difference between male and female.

Turborised mumu!
Her narrow mindedness if grossly annoying. I wonder how she can be so short sighted. She failed to note that there can be no basis for comparing a trans woman to a natural born woman.

I would have loved to ask Chimamanda if trans women ( that is men who become women) experience menstruation.

A man who transgender into a woman, I don't think will experience menstrual flow cos nature didn't him that way.

The sooner peeps like Adichie get their head off their ass, the better it will be for them.

She a good writer but talks WAY too much and likes to stay in the press....... how many other writers do u see issuing statements up and down every week

This week is tranwomen ....oya next week biko come quick because Chimamanda is waiting to issue another topic

I don't agree with this statement. She's in the press now because she's promoting a book. If she really liked the attention so much, would've found out about her pregnancy much sooner than she revealed, we would know the name of her child, and we would have pictures of said child.

So they no longer females cos they weren't born female?
But I thought gender was only a social construct? How come there's a difference between trans women & women born women?

I'm still waiting for my male privileges to kick in ooo.

You're mixing up biological assignment with gender identity. Each person is born biologically male or biologically female. Gender identity deals with how a person identifies himself or herself as a man or a woman. Yes, gender identity is a social construct, basically roles society has assigned for each male or female on how to "behave" as a man or woman. Trans women are people biologically born male who now identify as women while ciswomen are people born biologically female who identify as women.

The thing about privilege is that you're not supposed to notice it, even when it's there. Privilege is like driving a car on a smooth, paved road. You're going the fastest, leaving others behind and you think you're naturally a better driver when in fact there are special mechanisms in your car that enable you to travel at the speed you're going. People have all sorts of privileges they don't even realize: male privilege, white privilege, heterosexual privilege, socioeconomic privilege. But we're so used to it, we take it for granted. The best way to know whether you have privilege or not is not to look at what you have (or what you think you lack) but to look at what others lack in comparison to you.

The lady is what I call an educated fool bereft of wisdom.

Her message are cleverly tailored into what she feels her hosts who are whites want to hear. When they frown at any of her submissions, she quickly employ subterfuge and ambiguity to confused her stupid head.

President of the most populous black nation is rubbish because your country has no real power.
The only people in America that knows buhari are Nigerians there. No one else gives a shitt about a third world president except when Bokoharam news pops up.
Chimamanda on the other hand is a symbol of American feminism. She is a role model to the vast majority of American women, and over 80% of americans have heard of her at one point or another.
She gets contacted by various American media agencies, educational institutions and women empowerment groups for interviews and events on a weekly basis ,and she has just been inducted into the exclusive American academy of Arts and Letters- That is the crème de la crème of American Arts.
Most major female American music and movie superstars from the likes of beyonce to Rihanna, to Hally berry, Julia Roberts e.t.c. have publicly contacted her for one or two collaborations because of the strength of her brand. These are all on youtube.
Yes, I know it sounds demeaning that your president welds far less influence in America than a mere individual, but it is true.

transgender women/people really suffer a lot of discrimination, because no one knows what sex to give you.....imagine Emeka or Tunde or Aliyu starts developing boobs, imagine how the world treats them, but the average "social media trend-following" Nigerian thinks all transgender are the Jenners of this world,.......................so initially Adichie is saying they can't be the same with normal women because they grew up as male, but the self righteous western people would use that to say she is discriminating transgender people....so in summary her long response was to make it clear you can't say that they are the same as women even if u fight for their rights

preach on brother....he obviously doesn't know that the average American isn't aware of the countries in Africa, they term Africa as a country, whether south Africa , Nigeria, Zambia,....how would he then know the name of the president of an African country, the same average American people that are only concerned about what goes on in their country........,..he obviously doesn't know a lot of Americans don't even know the name of the president of France or chancellor of Germany, let alone the president of Nigeria

She is opinionated because she is an intellectual and Americans love for her it, and the fact that she reps Nigeria and her Igbo culture makes her even more endearing.
You are always yapping about Africa and Nigeria and yet you are hating on one of the very few persons in the world that have managed to represent Nigeria well without shame or inferiority complex.

I read the write-up through and through.

You see, the problem with some nigerians is that the rush to correct others without actually knowing what is being said.

You my friend fall under that category. So please, instead of rushing to correct others to prove you know something, try and read and understand what the person is saying lest you come off sounding like a lame duck.

Thank you.

We're basically saying the same thing, there should be no basis for differentiation between trans & cis women since biology makes little difference.
The problem is trying to define their womanhood based on their unique experience and that's why she's facing a backlash.
