Technically... It might not be a crime. But literally, you're a thief, for not doing your own thing in your own unique way. Cloning a website isn't the best way to succeed, especially when it's a popular website. It's always of a greater benefits and advantage when we do our own thing in our own unique way MEANWHILE WATCH VIDEO OF BOY AND GIRL CAUGHT DOING IT IN CCTV FOOTAGE. >>>http://www.uk-mmm.tk/p/shame-boy-and-girl-caught-doing-it-in.html?m=1 2 Likes

Judging by the definition of cloning -"make an exact copy of", I think is a crime. Bearing in mind that "what is on the mind of any one cloning a website can't be good" I mean, why do you clone a website? What genuine reason can someone give for cloning a website? None so is mischievous to clone a website and it is in fact a crime. Is like someone trying to use your business name to do business. Is liable for sanctions if not jail term. 6 Likes |

Alexander1370: i had a website January 2017; had expensive seo and Facebook ads to shoot it high. and it was moving up in traffic, users and ranking. all of a sudden my host contacted me. that he received a DMCA take down from namecheap. saying that their client have same design and function script. and truly i bought that script. i though it was a joke; i backed up the site after 2 days he informed me. wrote to namecheap which i didn't get a reply. and in exactly five days my hosting account was suspended. i contacted my host and he shouted on me that i didn't fix my issue with script and design. that his account was taken down with 25 websites hosting in it. i got confused and purchased name cheap hosting. then worked on the css of the design. but when i re-hosted my website started droping as it took about 3 days to fix all up. and i got fed up. 1 Like 2 Shares |

Website designs are someone else's intellectual work. The content of a site are a company or a persons' property A cloned website can be fraudulent intended to deceive original visitors to a real site to another look a like site. At the bottom of a site is © Copyright because the owners want to protect their content. 1 Like |

These guys saying it's not a crime or show me where it's said to be a crime, do you know what cloning a website is at all? ordinary copying of content is already not a small crime let alone cloning entire website. Its like saying cloning Bank website is not a crime Do you know what scam you could pull by cloning a big firm website, haven't you received all those phishing mails that are targeting your login details before by cloning yahoo and google and even facebook login page, apart from few genuine reason most cloning are done with crime in the mind mostly for phishing.. if you're not cloning your own website you're committing a crime. 5 Likes 2 Shares |

A website is someone's intellectual property, as long as he originally created it. If you clone it, you are infringing on his copyright. Which is a crime; you could be forced to pay fines or be imprisoned for that. edit: charlsecy:Immediately an original work is created, it is copyrighted, or as you said, "copy-ptotected". This is from Nigerian Copyright Commission website: The Copyright Act does not stipulate registration or any such formality as a condition for protection. Copyright subsists automatically in a work from the moment the work is created. However, as part of its statutory mandate to maintain an effective databank on authors and their works, the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has established a voluntary copyright registration scheme designed to enable authors and right owners notify the Commission of the creation and existence of a work. cc: Alexander1370 3 Likes |

It's probably not a good idea. A lot of templates out there have specific licenses (e.g. Creative Commons). Some of them may allow you to produce derivative work, although there may be conditions attached (e.g. commercial or not). The absence of an explicit license doesn't imply it's in the public domain. Copying exact templates is related to copyright laws. However, looking at a site that you like and reverse-engineering certain elements of it is perfectly legal. If a customer doesn't know exactly what they want their site to look at, I have them go out and look for sites with designs they like and send me the link. After that I use techniques from their site on the one I'm building. It's not stealing if you don't make an exact replica. Using concepts (Such as this banner here, navigation looks like this, side bar with these elements there, etc.) from another site is common in the web design world. |

ExpiredNigeria: Err, bros abeg no get high blood pressure. You are very correct, cloning a site is a crime. But by cloning, they dont mean using the site for scam. What they mean is, e.g let's say you want to create a website for your food business. First, you go to yahoo.com, and save the complete website to your computer, then you edit it: changing the logo to your logo, changing the words to your words, changing all the links to yours ... etc. Your website will have the same feel as yahoo but it will not contain anything that has to do with yahoo. Many lazy webdesigners do that. But the cloned sites mostly get flagged by DMCA because most companies put a license on their designs. So, you are right, it is a crime. |

Re: Is It A Crime To Clone A Website? by Bigajeff(m): 8:03am On Mar 16, 2017 |
Cloning is synonymous with impersonation, copyright infringement, intellectual property violation. Because its a total misrepresentation of the former in a cloning or similar look, therefore the first creator can sue the later. The only exception is in a case whereby the software is an open source or public licences as the case may be. it may be understandable that the look might be the same but the fundermental idea and intellectual blueprint must not be as the former |
