How about their debts? Hope it's not rising along with their IGR.

There is no big deal in being indebted, as long as you have capacity to repay.

Infrastructural development comes at a huge cost which you might not be able to Finance on your own in the immediate. Borrowing to execute such projects now makes sense because if you are waiting for the day you will have money, the day might never come and the prices of whatever project you want to execute can never be the same again, likewise the time value of money and time itself that would have been lost.

Meanwhile, US is the most indebted nation in the world and still the most developed. Dangote is the most indebted Nigerian and still the richest. Likewise Lagos, most indebted but still the most developed and the richest.

Lagos and Ogun should merge to form a country.

What could be the probable name of such a country? ---- LagOg.

Lol

I think LaGun would be a better name, don't you think? grin

This is an error many people keep making about the face-off between Tinubu and OBJ.

The FG during the final years of OBJ's tenure did not withhold Lagos State Govt allocations. What was withheld were the allocations of funds due to the LGA's in the state. So it's wrong to say the state govt survived without allocations from the Federation Account. It was the Local Govt Authorities that were denied allocations.

This is an eye opener to the FG

kudos to Lagos for taxing anything taxable, even a qiosk owner in computer village is paying tax not to talk about all the multinationals that have their head offices in Lagos.

if Ekiti or osun want to Generate IGR who will they task ? the famers or the hunters?

if bayelsa , delta want to Generate IGR who will they task ? fishermen or militants?

what am saying is every fire power of a country is concentrated in Lagos alone which is not good for massive and even development among the states of the federation.

Lagos and Ogun state having industries and head offices coupled with massive migration from other states make them at the advantage and nothing special.

FG should give attentions to other states and by then we won't be having 20millon people in Lagos and 1million ,or even 500 thousands from osun and ekiti respectively.
People repeat this ignorant rubbish endlessly .The location of corporate headquarters is fiscally neutral. States do not tax corporate profit. The IGR in 1999 was 6 billion before Tinubu took over. We're there no multinationals then?.States can only tax workers and not COMPANIES . Companies especially oil companies have alway paid PAYE for workers and tax for tenement and land use and that did not start in 1999. If a company's main business is outside Lagos then the bulk of its workers will pay PAYE outside Lagos .Why has that not transformed oil producing states' IGR ?
Let us stop this headquarter myth. . Lagos has figured out how to extract
About 50
naira daily on average from its working people

Mr. calm down. The poster you quoted didn't even say whether the allocation OBJ withheld was the state govt. or Local Govt, but in anycase, didn't the state govt sue OBJ's FG to court and eventually won at the Supreme Court which gave the verdict that OBJ had no right to hold back Lagos money and that a state government has a right to create a local government which will only become complete and active upon the participation of the National Assembly as stipulated in the constitution? Those LG funds affected the finances of Lagos at the time. #FACT. And this situation propelled the then Governor, BAT, to shore up the finances of the state via creative ways of increasing its IGR.

So whether it was State or LG allocation that was withheld is an irrelevant point really. The FACT remains that allocations due to the Lagos state government were illegally withheld for years and this birthed the IGR drive that has set Lagos apart from other states of the federation today.

those company came to Nigeria and not lagos. Government policies also helped lagos to be what it it but still far behind compare to cities with less population like Johannesburg, Durban and cape town. still more work to do.

God bless you o. Lagos doesn't have power to tax companies. FIRS does that. The income of the workers are taxed. Every company tax goes to FG same for oil companies. Lagos makes its money more from informal sectors especially hospitality such as hotels, clubs and so. Even if oil companies are moved to SS States, the FG would still collect the tax.

To be fair, I do not think the Igbos care much about any progress made by any people anywhere. They are quite competitive and would welcome competition. Besides they wouldn't be calling for restructuring or the louder calls for Biafra if they want to impede any Yoruba progress. My two cents.

Lagos extension into ogun should be carved out and joined to Lagos, Ogun should show us what they have achieved in abeokuta. any slight shifting of this boundary will have ogun behind ekiti

Ogun state is fast developing due to overflow from Lagos state and also the most industrialised state in Nigeria. If u ask me about what u said, if you remove sango Ota, agbara, ibafo/mowe from ogun state, ogun state still have other places with industries such as ibese, ewekoro, sagamu, Ijebu Ode, etc. Abeokuta is a fast developing city but the only ill luck about the state is the past/present governments who looted/still looting the resources to have made it better

let me tell you what you do not know because most of you are ignorant. Lagos state was created in 1967.before that our PAPA AWO (who is now seated by the

Right hand of God)developed Ilkeja which was part of the Western Region as an Industrial hub to take advantage of the nearby port. It is no accident or luck.
Before Lagos state was created There was an FCT which ended just before Mushing where Fela'so house used to be. Most of the state was in the Western Region.
Lagos State was never the capital of Nigeria rather a few LGAS that never included
IKEJA or any of the manufacturing hubs.

I am not surprised, a state that has the major airport station in the country, a state where major multinational companies are house, an oil producing state, a state which is overpopulated and the gov't decided decided to use tax as a means of generating revenues, a state where almost everything has a value added cost on goods and service. If a state has all these characteristics and it's backward, then that state should be questioned based on it monthly cash flow .

The location of Lagos is in no doubt at good advantage to it development.

I won't deny the fact that Lagos have numerous advantages due to the location of lndustries all over it land mass, but I will also say the truth by applauding the present and past government on their viable policies toward the moving forward of Lagos.
Even with all the aforementioned advantages listed by you, a person of Fayose leadership skills still won't achieve a meaningful height as this.
