GogetterMD: The child is clearly autistic and needs special care. I'm not sure medication can cure autism, all the child needs is special care. I'm not sure there are special needs schools in Nigeria but that's the type of school he needs to attend. 1 Like |

I agree with the other poster... your child is a "Special Need" child. Its not going to be an easy journey but know that you are not alone. Your son may need a speech therapist and Special doctors. Try and join forums online of people with Special needs children. Please, don't listen to anyone trying to sell Spiritual healing from Christian and Muslims Alfa.. Tell the Spiritual Alfas and Pastor to use their power first to FIX NIGERIA IF THEY'RE TRUELY POWERFUL. they are only out there to drain every kobo out of you. Even Oyinbo children are suffering the same thing as your child. 6 Likes |

napoleon77:Might not be autism, as that cannot be diagnosed from the brief description he gave. Birth asphyxia, Down's syndrome, might be probable diagnosis also. We do have special schools in Nigeria, albeit expensive. There's one in GRA Ikeja Lagos 3 Likes |

So sorry about your child's condition, it's really heart breaking. A woman once shared a story that went viral on Facebook about her son who had similar issues and how she was able to finally find a solution. It mostly involved her seeking God in spirit and in truth. She realized her pride and that was a way God used to show her the kind of person she really was. So brother don't blame the child cause no child would want to learn slow. But be sincere and turn back to God. Your miracle Is in your hands. 1 Like |

Joavid:Ignore this advice wholeheartedly. Since you have done series of neurological investigations as you wrote in the write up, you should go ahead and visit a child psychiatrist and pediatric neurologist too, please. There is an anomally somewhere, maybe a delayed cognitive and behavioral development. What was the diagnoses they gave you in all the hospitals you've visited? How long did your wife labored before birthing this child? Was it a traumatic delivery? There lots of questions that needs to be answered here. Wish you the best, sir. |

SirVintageCock:thanks very much, the doctors did not really give a specific diagnosis. To be truthful, my wife was in labour for close to 18 hours. She started seeing signs around 12am the previous day before she gave birth through CS around 6 pm the ffg day. The baby was admitted in children hospital in Lagos island for 6 days for close monitoring. Thereafter he was discharged. The boy is growing normally but mentally, no! |
Re: Help, My Son Has Refused To Develope by eyinjuege: 9:05am On Mar 18, 2017 |
He could be on the autistic spectrum. You need a paediatrician to diagnose him first of all. It's unfortunate there's little help to offer autistic kids in Nigeria, but you can Google for the available autism groups in Nigeria. Anyway, he needs to be seen by a paediatrician preferably a neurologist first and foremost |

yemi1261:My son was in nappies till 3 months before his fifth birthday. It didn't bother me, he is autistic. Whilst my peers were potty training their kids, I focussed on giving him the skills he would need should he ever become ready. I used hand on hand encouragement to teach him to pull his trousers down. I by passed potty and would sit him in the loo even if it was for 2 secs. To get him used to it. I let him watch me( kids on the spectrum are very visual learners) whilst I used the loo. All these I did without actually trying to get him out of nappies. Im not very good at typing,(lazy) but send your digits and I'll add you up. He can make progress but he is going to need his parents every step of the way. 25 Likes |

yemi1261:this is a great and important pointer to what is going on to your child. From what you wrote it seems he had fetal distress as a result of the prolonged labour which prompted the medical teams to admit him for six days. Fetal distress and hypoxia causes lack of oxygen in the brain tissues and leads to conditions like asphyxia at birth and other effects like hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), seizures, permanent brain damage and long-term conditions such as cerebral palsy, developmental delays and disabilities. Please get to a child psychiatrist and neurologist. Take care of your child and your family sir. Be blessed. 7 Likes |

SirVintageCock:yes it's like you have got the actual problem. I have searched thoroughly the internet, and got things similar to your explanation. I sincerely thank good people who tried to assist in one way or the other. Am overwhelmed. I pray God will bless u all. I ask that you all continue praying for me. I love you all. The condition is really getting me down. .i will still continue seeking solutions till help finally comes my way. |

Do not visit any private clinic again. Those that mentioned neurological and psychiatric issue aren't wrong. Both are closely related. In fact, a neurological dept and a psychiatry dept in any tertiary institution share a lot in common. However, since your child has NO issue with growth, posture and walking-ability, a psychiatrist remains a good recommendation. If a psychiatrist on his own terms demand a neurological test, you can go ahead to get one. I think you have spent a lot already, so it is time to visit a public (tertiary) institution. LASUTH alone has more than 6 psychiatrists. You can't get that in any private clinic in Nigeria. Visit the "department of behavioural sciences" aka psychiatry dept in LASUTH, beside the department is a Neurological department. I pray you find a permanent solution to this 13 Likes 1 Share |

medinatl: That you don't believe in God's abilities does not mean He is not able to heal the boy regardless of his illness. Have you asked yourself why medical doctors with all their knowledge still fall ill and die? OP, the Lord is your strength. Seek God's face on this issue, He will show you what you need to do or lead helpers your way 1 Like |
