Thanks so much bro, my elder sister wants to sponsor me, but she is married and now bears another surname. So I'm wondering if the SK embassy will agree she is my sister. I ask this because I will be presenting her statement of account as my sponsor and also my personal account which has about a million naira. Please bro, what's my chances?
NB I'm going for my masters program.
Thanks

Sworn affidavits indicating family ties plus convincing cum attached references to her previous documents(bearing her full names before marriage) should do the magic.
Your chances are as good as anyone else.

Thanks bro, but one more thing, please the school I'm applying for is saying original academic documents but I'm a bit skeptical about this because it's original and may get lost in the process. Please, did you send your originals or lagalised/notorized photocopies?
Re: Thread for South Korea prospective students by Rapahel1116: 6:24pm On Feb 27, 2017
BT the problem is sir I was asked by the school to provide it .wen applying I evn emailed .BT still haven't gotten any reply SK schools are extremely slow in replying emails.
WILL10:

As i know quite well, all schools would sure accept the prescribed base limit required by the SK Embassy. Hence, your major focus should be the academic fees and ways you could get scholarships(or fee reductions), rather than their required SOA.

Sorry to interrupt ur talk with Will ...BT it depends on the school I checked some schools like chonbuk national uni and the rest and wat de requested for was that its either u send ur notarized 2 photocopies or u send just an original dats not notarized. And some schools don't request for legalised copy .....sha it depends oh.

Yes, you will have to pay before / or at the time of commencement of applications!
Just like the universities in the west and Europe, most Univs here demand for non-refundable application fees. Be sure it is what you what before paying so as not to kiss your money goodbye.

Among all the people that benefitted from this thread and made it to SK, it is only WILL10 that kept his words to update this thread as time permits him. The likes of Kcluv2men and others who benefitted here has gone cold. I know you guys are still settling down, but once in a while and furnish the thread with new and relevant information. It will go a long way

Re: Thread for South Korea prospective students by tobiasbeecher: 10:59am On Mar 08, 2017
beware, for those going for a masters degree in SK some of their programmes are not offered in English. So do well to find out if your programme is offered in English before applying. I was hoping to apply to Chungnam National University, but I was told by the Admission officer that my programme (Public Administration) is not offered in English. WILL10 can confirm this.

Might be too early to corroborate your claims (at-least for now) until i have spoken with their admission team about it, but yes, most undergraduate programs and a few more Masters program over here are conducted entirely in the Korean (Hangul) language.

Advise: Be sure to ask and confirm first, prior to picking up admission Letters!

Cheers

Yes that's what I'm saying, I spoke with chungnam National University gaduate school representative, she specifically told me this and even sent it on mail to me. I will start again to search for schools that offer my programme (Public Administration) in English and apply to them. Will1O, please if you know of any school that do, please refer me to them.

5 Legal and Basic Job types for foreigners in Korea(especially D2 Students)

Hello friends, just thought i should share my thoughts concerning the job prospects specifically for students, as this have always been the most popular and common questions i get through emails, week-in and out.

Korean Law states that students are only permitted to officially work on part time(max 20 hours weekly) and only after completing 6 months in Korea. However, these laws are often flawed or flouted by students. Below are the 5 cardinal jobs a student could roll-on with until graduation here.

1. Factory Jobs
-Usually long-term or monthly,
-Pay is bi-monthly or monthly and its awesome too.
-Minimum $1,800 USD monthly.
-Not so easy to secure for students as it requires documentations(most times), time-demanding and would sure affect your academics.

2. Tekbe (Arabite) Jobs
-Casual or short-term jobs.
-Pay is daily and good too.
-Minimum $70 USD or much more per day.
-Could be day, night or weekend jobs.
-Quite easy to secure and mostly okay to manage with academics.

3. English Teaching jobs
-Usually part time or purely full time jobs.
-Pay is bi-weekly or monthly and its awesome too.
-Minimum $2,000 USD Monthly, depending on the number of hours you work per week and your bargaining strength.
-Extremely tough to secure for anyone other than the recognized Native English speaking countries(check on google for the countries).
-Students could get it based of sheer-luck or strong familiar referrals.

4. Paid Internship.
-Purely formal company jobs.
-Usually medium-term or semester vacation jobs,
-Pay is bi-monthly or monthly and its awesome too.
-Minimum $1,500 USD monthly.
-Not so easy to secure for students as it is competitive.

5. Business, skill-oriented, short-term personal contracts, others.
-Importation/exportation business.
-contracts using your skill-sets (examples: App Programming skills, hair-making and cooks(for girls), remotely working as English translators, corrector, writers, etc.)
-No strings attached regarding timing and pay, as it is entirely up-to you and your clients.

Please be well informed prior to coming here so you don't get into a fix. "Fore-warned is Fore-armed"

NB: The info listed above are purely based on my personal opinion/experiences. However, they could slightly differ with the views of other Nigerian residents in SK.

Cheers.
