Justiceleague1: There are some of you that your main problem is your inability to wean yourself from critical and judgmental mind. What does Yoruba you called Afonja have to do with this interview? How can we have people with your frame of mind in Nigeria and we think there is future for the country? Your vituperations are failure of sound development of intellect. Can't we dissect, pick out strengths and jettison the odds? If a man proposed restructuring but still desires that his concept of restructuring should be one that regions should depend on FG to sustain themselves is that far different from present system. The fundamental issue in any restructuring is fiscal autonomy of the regions. Federal Government should bother itself about exclusive common matters to the existence of unity but not on fundamental matters that states can handle better. There are quotes strengths in his interview as well as odds. Think before you write. Stop wasting your data on frivolity. 2 Likes |

The man made some points especially in educational sector but its not the fault of the south that the north is educationally backward, so it's only proper that their leaders should address that issue, Gej tried in addressing that issue but we all know how things are done in this country The part am strongly against in all his points is the part which he says "Allocation should come directly from the federal government" which allocation is he talking about? its just like turning an old wine into a new bottle, nothing changes about the content, My point is that each region should control their resources and every state can operate independently without waiting for any form of allocation but it should b agreed that a certain percentage should b paid to d federal government from all the regions which can be use to address issues of national concern and to unify the country since we are not advocating for separation totally. One other thing is that it will weaken the federal government and make it unattractive for do or die politicians Secondly it will means competition among the states in terms of development and encourage every region to source for ways to maximize their potentials The federal government will still control a lot of agencies which like the military, anti graft agency etc so as to monitor all the regional governments so that they don't turn it into their personal enterprise I love to go on but I will stop here |

freeze001: Thank you. It is these handouts by the Ferderal Government that has made Governors and LG Chairs lazy and begarrly. They cannot use their brains to create wealth and create a conducive environment within their states to attract investments (local and foreign). POTENTIAL resources are there doing nothing. From minerals, crude oil, manufacturing, tourism/hospitality etc. A while ago they even had the guts and complained about recession. They sought bailout funds. Funds were given and till date, some cannot pay workers and have not paid workers for months! As a Governor, your duty is to create a conducive environment for investment and the citizens/individuals within your state. Provide amenities (roads, drainage, sidewalks, public parks, metros, public waste bins, etc. etc) , provide security, provide justice, provide and ensure equity and provide an enabling system for investors to come in. You are to daily do things and engage in projects and programs that will make life safe, secure and comfortable. That way investors come in, people spend money and receive money. The system lubricates itself with value being transferred, services being rendered ND goods being produced and consumed. We haven't had a Governor that knows these principles. Even if they do, the appeal of free money. Sitting down and not using your brain to create value for your State, is more appealing. Allocations from the FG, once they come, is free money. Easy come easy go. Every region should manage it's resources and develop itself, advancing at its own preferred pace. Any one that lags behind won't blame others. Anyone that appoints leaders who embezzle, their Own Cup of tea. If we think about it, isn't it what the Governor's should do under the currently arrangement? Food for thought. How are we sure that with the available politicians, even the regional leaders won't be corrupt? Well, perhaps at least, the Center won't be far and the people would know their leaders better to make informed decisions. |

LoveMachine: He lied that the colonial policy is the reason for a lack of education in the north. They rejected anything that might lead people to question Islam so there were fewer mission schools established in the north. That wasn't because of the colonial powers, that was the northern elite working against the interests of the society (as per usual). That they couldn't find a way to ensure that their people were formally educated without of their own accord is a damning indictment of the northern power structure. |

freeze001: Thank you my dear for that brilliant observation. The reverse should have been the case. I don't know why a region should be afraid of survival without other regions resources. This is total display of laziness..God has blessed every region with both human and natural resources to stand and survive alone like every individual is meant to survive with or without another. |

Nathan2016: That aboki character is a liar. It was Buhari who was saying it would be wrong to treat Boko Haram like the terrorists that they are. It was the local people who emboldened and fortified Boko Haram by supplying them with food, fuel and shelter from the security forces. |

ABOKI9ja: as you said you're entitled to your opinion but let me quickly correct your impression. southerners having properties in northern region, the same goes with northeners. infact among all the tribes in Nigeria Yoruba still remained accommodating tribe among all. we don't take religion and tribe before humanity. why are u using hasty generalization just to gain sympathy. you yourself know that southwest do not hate any tribe. infact the Igbo's always feel we love Hausa's more than our southern brothers how many northern states can a non northerner runs out for election? so therefore you remained Nigeria problem until y'all educate yourself and change your mindset on putting your religion and tribe before human southern regions remains an utilitarianist in Nigeria most esp Southwest |

Kemperor: I understand your point but just because something is given to you does not mean that need to accept it. Especially when it clearly does not work in your favor. There are more peasants than emirs. The people of the north have shown a peculiar willingness to kill southerners and infidels for the pettiest of reasons (such as comments made about beauty contests or cartoons drawn in Denmark) why then do they refuse to force their useless leaders to feel their wrath? Why can't they use that same violence to bring about real change to their society? 1 Like |
