As the guy who mentioned you stated, there are indigenous Ijaws in Ondo, so go figure.
realjoker:
Lolz, the guy just quoted one of the Lagos-ibadan express way media outlets that you claim are all fake or are they no longer broadcasting only propaganda?

Guys, please read the entire Ijaw rebuttal in the Tribune newspaper that he quoted, then go back and read Adebanjo's interview on the Yoruba people's wish to break away. You will not find any correlation between what Adebanjo said, and what the Ijaw leaders are now saying! shocked

Adebanjo did not even mention the Ijaw people in his interview, and yet the Ijaw leaders are opposing him claiming he tried to include the Ijaw in the proposed Oduduwa republic. Where did the miscommunication come from?? And why are the Ijaw leaders attributing a statement Adebanjo never made about their tribe, to the old man?

What exactly is going on? Can you Yoruba people explain it to those of us that come from other ethnic groups? Till now, nobody knows who drew that proposed Oduduwa map! Where did it come from? undecided

Read Adebanjo's interview here:http://www.herald.ng/oduduwa-republic-yoruba-is-ready-to-break-away-from-nigeria-ayo-adebanjo/

Irrelevant nonsense. Where did Pa Adebanjo said Ijaw is part of Oduduwa Republic?

I wonder, o!! shocked I read Adebanjo's interview and not once did the word "Ijaw", come up! So what are the Ijaw/Izon leaders going on about??

Too much saw dust in your brain. Since the Yorubas are and Igbos are averse to each other, and the Yorubas think they can get along with the causes, what is the big deal if we split the country along an Hausa - Yoruba, and Igbo axes? The minorities can also come together as one. Nobody believes in Nigeria as it is now but nobody is bold enough to divide it. Even the vaunted political amendments will not work and might indeed create bigger problems since minds have been made up.

If different group claim to break away, who will remain in Nigeria? Does the Niger deltans think urhobo, itsekiri would buy that idea of joining them whereas they quarrel on per billing? Why is Port Harcourt more developed than Warri if not for crisis?. The oduduwa group clamouring for break up ,where do you think you're going? Wouldn't it be funny when you all are stepping up borders? Biafra nkor are you all united? Don't you call ebonyi indigenes OSU? These issues can be resolved if the government of the day step in but no most Nigerians are gullible not to see the hand writing on the walls that same cabals in the previous government are still in this government.
Wonderful. A reknown Afonje call Adebajo is planning of going out of Nigeria because of Buhari oppresive tendencies, you are there talking of GEJ's government cabals. Since when did Afonje become related to Izons. Continue to dream of GEJ while Buhari will press you, especially Thiefinubu into the gutters.

mandarin:
I don't think anyone is laying claim to Izon or Ijaw least the Yoruba. Some Ijaw are in Ondo State but have no land there. Just like Fulani, the Ijaw are migrants in many parts of southern Nigeria and there's no way they can proof the ownership of anywhere in Edo and Ondo state.
The coastal areas from Escravos Warri to Edo and Ondo state do not have any Izonland.
I do not think Yoruba want to claim Ijaw but has been affirming their kinsmen the Itsekiri.
This statement by the Ijaw is deliberate message to Itsekiri and Edo, trying to affirm ownership and I will advise that they perish the idea.

Now on a more pragmatic level, who really need who? Compare what ijaw have to the Yoruba in all ramifications, they are not mates;is it productive landmass good for agriculture, population with good purchasing power, educated population, already organized communities in terms of economic power, what are the ijaw fighting for?
1. Crude oil: The exclusive land area the ijaw can claim is Forcados to Bayelsa and maybe some areas of Kalabari in Rivers. They can make do with their resources and lets see how many decades it take them to be like the Yoruba or Igbo. Other ethnic groups have oil too, by the time your Nigeria is fully divided(I don't advocate for such) you will know that Yoruba and Igbo has oil than you can think. This is also applicable to natural gas.
2.Warri: Former oil capital of Nigeria, wealthy oil potentials and location of a refinery and proposed gas FTZ, the ijaw can't claim the one at Porthacourt and so looking at warri will to them be a good starting point. Now, if the Itsekiri should stand with Yoruba it will be zero probability of getting what they want. The Gelegele at Edo is slipping away already and consolidating through Toru-Ibe is a dead dream, the ijaw are led largely by youths who just want economic empowerment but with little grasp of history and diplomacy.

What options do they really have if they want an Ijaw country?
Live in peace with their neighbors, hold to those undisputed areas and trade away those disputed areas for strong economic and cultural ties because they can't win the Yoruba or the Edo in eventuality. They need to consolidate on their areas in Rivers and Beayelsa else they may be fighting battles against all their big neighbors and they can't win.
So, what would the Yoruba want from ijaw apart from oil, don't think there's anything and its not looking like Oduduwa will want to include the Ijaw even though historically the ijaw claim ife and, when the value of oil becomes less and less a driving force, the ijaw will see the light.
happy Sunday to all.
My take is let the Izon live in peace with all their neighbors, negotiate a confederation with any big side and you will win from both sides.

Chief Adebanjo never laid claim to the Ijaws or Izon in his interview. sad Please read exactly what the man said. So why are the Ijaw leaders getting their knickers in a twist and accusing the Yoruba people of wanting to colonise them, or force them into their proposed republic?? Something is fishy, o! Can you chaps explain it to the non-Yoruba folks like us? undecided

awelekiti:
point of correction, ijaw land isn't in ondo state rather, they migrated to ondo state centuries ago to engage in their business of fishing. Ijaws are predominantly fishermen and women and they carry out their fishing activities along the coastal areas the niger-delta, including that of ondo state. Look and the map, it's crystal clear. I don't know why the afenifere leader is jumping the entire edo state to claim ijaw is part of us. It's a joke which everybody should ignore. If he says itsekiri is part of oduduwa, it would have made sense because they migrated from Ondo centuries ago to settle in that area. This is evident in their dialect and likewise their names.
TonyeBarcanista:
Ijaw nation can never be part of any Odua group just as Odua can never be part of Ijaw secession. But hey, we are Nigerians (at least for now)

Go and read Adebanjo's interview with an open mind. You will see that he never mentioned the Ijaw people in his statements. Or have they been listening to Biafran propaganda again?

Nigerians are foolish people. Still arguing in 2017 about whose tiny little inconsequential tribe is better. Religion and our various cultures distracts us from the real issues.

It's funny that some people think that breaking the nation into tiny little tribes will lead to success. Ethnic and religious issues will continue, but the difference is that each tiny little country will have it's own military inevitably leading to frequent small-scale wars. We'll all be back to pre-colonial era... constant inter-tribal war, no long-term peace, no political and economic stability; therefore, no growth and success!

There's a simpler way out. Dismantle the stranglehold of religion and create a new cultural identity. Culture is dynamic, not static. It has been done many times in history especially to nations on the losing end of a war. Every little aspect of culture can be consciously modified, even up to the type of food a group of people consume. Intermarriages, migrations via economic development of new areas, common law for all, prioritizing scientific education etc. Huge changes in behavior will emerge within 2-3 generations.

At best, the nation breaks in two because the northerners don't seem like people who will ever be willing to shed their culture+religion and fully integrate.

These things can be done but we have old useless leaders with zero foresight.

With people like you still existing, I still sight a faint hope for this nation. Kudos!

So much tribal & religion hatred in the land since the incompetent bubu forcefully took over power with the use of boko haram and lie Mohammed. I saw it coming, but bubu ass lickers are blind and deaf.

Some cursed people would still post IstandWithBuhari.

Buhari can't lead a develop country just for one month, he would be stoned with tomato everywhere he goes.

If things get worse, how many countries are we dividing 9ja into, I curse the generation of the people that brought us together in the first place.

I don't think breaking up is the right decision anymore, people will always come up continuously with this option because of greed.

All we need is the right man up there, someone that is not influenced with tribe or religion sentiment. Educated person with the right ideas and policies to make the country great.

#IStillBelieveIn9ja.

The report was compiled based on what the ijaw leaders said. Something is in the pipeline already which I'd never mention here. GEJ was with obj recently alongside the afenifere chieftains. I was just being diplomatic in my earlier comment oo. I read the chief's comment inside-out. On a social medium like this, you watch what you say and that's exactly what I'm doing

The Izon/Ijaw are only seeking for attention, I keep wondering how will a sensible Yoruba leader seek for an Odùduwà nation with Ijaw inclusive. Yorùbá Nation is too big to forcefully attach to one tiny minor ethnic group to form a nation we all know those who are known for attach by force do to there inferiority complex.
