Yes, but ideally the criminal cases are usually sorted before civil cases. That's my opinion anyway.
The blackmail she's been charged with isn't about her exposing their affair to the world. She was arrested even before she made the exposé.
The question should be with what was she requesting for to blackmail the man? Was she requesting for money or other favors?
Has he truly got evidence of the blackmail? I believe the police saw some evidence of blackmail before arresting her and even charging her. It can't just be a case of miscarriage of justice, and the "rich" using the police to intimidate the "poor".

While the apostle doesn't have anything to gain financially from the lady in question by instituting a libel suit against her, he has a lot to lose by doing nothing. She is damaging his reputation and the reputation of his ministry by extension and at the very least, extracting a retraction from her would staunch that. Doing nothing tells us that is he possibly guilty if her accusations and that opens up a world of possibilities regarding what else he might be guilty of. Except he's willing to make the trade off, he HAS to have her charged with libel.

The "status" of Apostle is such that clearing his name of all this damaging allegations, allegations that bring insult and dirt to the body of Christ, should be more important to him that putting an ordinary "stripper" of no-consequence in jail.
