Namibia
MORE THAN 300 SOLDIERS PROMOTED

The Namibian Defence Force (NDF) promoted more than 300 soldiers in the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) with effect from 01 March 2017. The promotion covered one Brigadier General, Senior Officers and other ranks. The members promoted were to fill vacancies arising from retirements and other personnel loses.

Officiating at the conferment of ranks ceremony, on behalf of the CDF, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Martin Pinehas, the Air Force Commander said that promotion is a demonstration of hard work, dedication and discipline of those who were promoted. “It's a reward, therefore, while you are rewarded you are also expected to perform your tasks and duties with diligence, commitment and dedication. Many times when soldiers are promoted to the next ranks, they relax and become bosses instead of becoming leaders. In our environment, we do not groom bosses, we groom leaders. You were lifted by leaders and it is expected of you to equally lift those that are going to be placed under your command”, said the AVM.

Furthermore, the Air Force Commander emphasised that promotion means increased responsibilities. He therefore, urged the newly promoted officers to take care of the soldiers under their command and also to carry out the tasks assigned to them effectively. He then congratulated them, emphasising that the NDF has no doubt that they would continue to perform to the best of their abilities in order to transform the NDF into a truly formidable force.

Chute Systems again ran a highly successful workshop in the project to compile an Airborne Doctrine for the Namibian Defence Force. The worksop was completed this week.

To round off the three-week workshop, Chute Systems hosted a traditional South African braai (barbecue, SA-style).

On the last night in Bloemfontein, prior to the departure of the Namibian Defence Force officers, we all gathered in the lapa at the Chute Systems Training Centre. It was a great time of convivial socialising for the members of the work group, who have now become firm friends.

Over the year that this project has extended so far, there has been a lot of ground covered and some really productive work has been done.

We are looking forward to the next workshop, which will again be in Namibia, like the previous two.

South Africans haven't used Beffels since the late 80s and they were mostly with the now defunct SWATF, 101 and 32 Batallion. These could have been refurbished and sold/donated.

There's a lot of surplus Buffels around RSA that have been converted into fire engines for some reason. I used to see one parked outside a fire service station in a little dorpie between Vanderbijl Park and Kroonstad.

Potch and Plettenberg Bay fire protection groups both have them, too.

It is nice to see alot more diversity in this thread. I can pat myself on the back and say "well done lad", for a job well prosecuted.

This thread has significantly largely executed what I sort out to achieve. I like the fact that when I visit extreme foreign language military sites, like Russian or Danish military sites, I see photos originally shared first here in those sites.

If only we could get thousands more high quality images from all parts of the continent of Africa each year.

Also if only I could add this thread to my Resume. grin grin

The JF-17 Thunder is hanging pretty in the CAS's conference room, so it won't be long now before it is delivered to the Nigerian Air Force.

Drivers would have been black too. By the time you're ready to deploy after doing section/platoon level coin, the drivers in your intake should be qualified. Driving a buffel is not that hard as long as you are aware of the body roll at certain speeds and don't panic.

Damn things nearly killed as many guys in accidents than it saved from mines. Horribly flawed vehicle. We once had one drive into a Pigshit dam on a farm. Guys were taking turns throwing up while we tried to dig it out... Charming evening that was!!
They should have just build a "shorty" Casspir on a unimog chassis from the start (which is basically what a Mamba is)

ActivateKruger:

I think the discontinuation of the Buffel service was by its own design. The driver seats separate from the rest of the rifleman, if you think that most of the drivers would have been white and the riflemen would (after 94) be black. Seeing a white dude driving black dudes around wouldn't make a great image.

I heard they had a tendency to roll into corners. Supposedly it had to do with the top heavy nature of the design.

The Rhino and Bulldog were later developments on the Buffel which were much improved. By then the Mamba was entering service though so both were not introduced in large numbers.

Some of them would start a body roll at certain speeds on the highway. Kind of like a speed wobble on a bike. Inexperienced drivers would overcompensate and you'd end up off road. Hit a ditch and you roll.

I remember looking at these products in a book called "Why Armscor" in the 90s.. They were kinda revolutionary, how times have changed.

kudos to you. i am intending to start up a similar thread that is going to be about science and technology development across Africa and how it has helped us solve our problems.

all in all, i think Seun is a genius. from his small idea about ten years ago, he has given us something to express ourselves and to tell the African narative by ourselves. i do hope that the community grows into the wider world outside Africa.

Excuse the long post(Hopefully the anti-spam not will not get me grin)but I would just like to use this opportunity to wish my country a happy 27th Independence Day.
Our Independence, though proclaimed in accord with the Republic of South Africa(A friendly nation in which we are on equal footing wink)was preceded by a lengthy war which resulted in a large number of casualties on both warring sides. No self respecting Namibian can forget that we fought to win.A combat in which we spared not one effort, not one privation and not one drop of blood. We performed hard labor all for a pittance,We endured taunts, insults and beatings simply because of the color of our skin.Who can forget the shootings that claimed the lives of our people and the cells into which those fighting for freedom were crammed into,All that my brothers and sisters has caused suffering and although our wounds are still fresh and painful for us to erase them from our memory, let us loudly declare all that is over and done with now.The Republic of Namibia was founded. Our land now belongs to us it's children, let us make it our mission to institute social justice and ensure that our soil truly benefits us,it's children.
Long live the spirit of African Unity
And God bless the Republic of Namibia.
NEVER FORGET
