Igbos and Education. I am proudly Igbo. 1. The first black vice chancellor of University of Ibadan was an Igbo man named Prof Kenneth Dike. 2. First Vice chancellor of University of Lagos was an Igbo man named Prof Eni Njoku. 3. First Nigerian Rector of the thenYaba college of Technology was an Igbo Man named Engr Francis Agbasi. 4. First Nigerian professor of Mathematics was an Igbo man named prof Chike Obi, the man who solved Fermats last theorem. He was followed by another Igbo Man named prof James Ezeilo, professor of differential calculus and founder of Ezeilo Constant. 5. First Nigerian Professor of History, yet another Igbo man Prof Kenneth Dike who also became the first vice chancellor of University of Ibadan. 6. First Nigerian Professor of Botany, Prof Eni Njoku was an Igbo Man. He went on to become the first Vice Chancellor of University of Lagos. 7. What of Anatomy and Physiology, prof Chike Edozie, an Igbo man who is also the current Obi of Asaba. 8. In Physics, the first Nigerian professor was an Igbo man. Prof Okoye who became the professor of physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA in 1960. He was followed by the likes of Prof Alexander Anumalu who has been nominated for the Nobel price for physics Three times for his research in Quantum Physics. 9. In Nuclear Physics and Chemistry, Yet another Igbo Man. Professor Frank Ndili who gained Ph.D in his early 20s at Cambridge University in Nuclear Physics and Chemistry in the early 60s. This young Asaba man had made a first class in Physics and Mathematics at the then University College Ibadan in the early 50s. 10. What of Statistics; Professor Adichie whose research on Non-Parametric Statistics led to new areas in Statistical Research. 11. Medicine; the first professor of Medicine professor Kodilinye, he was appointed a professor of medicine at the university of London in 1952. He later became the Vice Chancellor of UNN after the war. 12. Astronomy; please look up professor Ntukoju. He was the first man to earn double ph.D in Astronomy and Mathematics. 13. Social Sciences; Demography and Statistical Research into Population studies; Again an Igbo Man - Professor Njoku who set up the first center for population research in Ibadan in the early 60s. A double ph.D in Mathematics and Economics. 14. Philosophy; Professor GD Okafor, who became a professor of Philosophy at the Armherst College USA in 1953. 15. Economics; Professor Pius Okigbo, who became a visiting scholar and Professor of Economics at the University of London in 1954. He was also the first Nigerian to get a ph.D in Economics. 16. Theology and Theological Research; Professor Njoku who became the first Nigerian to earn a ph.D in Theology from Queens University Belfast Ireland. He was appointed Professor of Theology at the University College Zambia in 1952. 17. What of the first Woman Novelist who has also been called the mother of modern African Literature; Flora Nwapa, an Igbo Woman. 18. Fine Arts; Professor Ben Enweonwu an Igbo man was the first Nigerian professor of fine arts. 19. Computer; Nigerian Best computer scientist of all time, Philip Emeagwali is an Igbo man. 20. Open Heart suggery; Professor Fabian Udekwu in 1974. Performed the first successful open heart surgery in UNTH Enugu, the first of its Kind in Black Africa. 21. Blogging; The most popular and highest paid blogger in Nigeria Linda Ikeji is an Igbo woman from Nkwere, Imo state. She went on to become the most searched Name by googe users in Nigeria in 2014. 22. The Nigerian University Commissions (NUC) has a record of the state with highest Professors in Nigeria, and as of 2014 that state is Imo State. You can go to the commissions website and verify. 23. Anambra state was the first in WAEC, Unity Schools Entrance Examinations, NECO and Presidential Debate in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Therefore, whenever some people address you Igbos as mere traders who develop other peoples states and Keke Riders, tell them that in addition to doing very well in Business, Sciences, Technology and sports. Igbo kwenu! Therefore when some people address you Igbos as traders who develop other people's states and keke drivers,tell them that in addition...Serious why would I care what someone says about me? Everybody is entitled to his/her own opinion. |
