Definition of Land Reclamation Land that was under the sea or was in a very poor condition, but has been improved so that it can be used for farming or building on - Cambridge Dictionary 'LAND RECLAMATION' is a misleading misnomer - it does not mean reclaiming LOST land but NEW Land (ie land previously under the sea). There is no proof that EAC existed as a land mass.

Was there land at the same spot in 1905? RoyalHaskoning (Project Consultants) claims that Eko Atlantic City existed as a land form in 1905 Below are map overlays from 1907 and 1918 showing that there was no land at the current Eko Atlantic City Site Also shown is a view of the Lagos Coast from the State House towards Tincan/Snake Island/Tarkwa Bay in 1923 with no evidence of Eko Atlantic at the current site. https://www.royalhaskoningdhv.com/-/media/royalhaskoningdhvcorporate/files/global/services/eko_atlantic_-_the_great_wall_of_lagos.pdf http://www.bl.uk/onlinegallery/onlineex/maps/africa/zoomify136510.html http://www.bmarchives.org/items/show/100205710 Lagos 1923 Photo https://www.google.com/culturalinstitute/beta/asset/bird-s-eye-view/5gH_3D4B0y9Kwg?hl=en-GB&ms=%7B"x"%3A0.5%2C"y"%3A0.5%2C"z"%3A9.578870651485552%2C"size"%3A%7B"width"%3A1.254442683223441%2C"height"%3A2.2713445341374685%7D%7D

Was an Environmental Impact Assesment carried out PRIOR to commencement of Dredging Activities? NO! "The EIA was submitted 3 years after the commencement of dredging activites. This is a contravention to the rules of the EIA Act 2004. There is no evidence that FME approved the construction." Heinrich Boll Stiftung Nigeria https://ng.boell.org EIA was done and submitted to FME after outcry from concerned individuals and NGOs http://allafrica.com/stories/201509221344.html https://ng.boell.org/sites/default/files/uploads/2012/12/eko_atlantic_project_-_fact_sheet.pdf

In other words, EAC is not "land reclamation" (that is, recovering of land) but "land creation" (that is, they are creating new land where there was no land). Well, I hope what they are doing is safe...in the long term. 1 Like |

Nalikedis: edoyad: If indeed this and other articles or views are 'sponsored coordinated attacks' then it implies that the promoters and consultants are an integral part of the sponsored attacks! Why did they not carry out an extensive Environmental Impact assessment PRIOR to commencing dredging? Is it those who are 'against' the project that tied their hands? Do you realise that there is no Traffic Impact Assessment for this project! In your estimation is it Ahmadu Bello Way, Akin Adesola and Adetokunbo Ademola that will suffice for access and exit of the massive vehicular traffic from all those high rises you are seeing? In fact, the whole Lagos State does not have a current Traffic Master Plan in consonance with the recently released Ikoyi/VI Master Plan! 2kass: It is just like a man who does not have the capacity to maintain a 504 being delirious with ecstasy because he was 'gifted' a Rolls Royce! Lagos currently cannot sustain Eko Atlantic City! This does not mean it cannot EVER it just means engaging with the proper 'tried and tested' process that cities committed to Good Urban Governance such as Dubai went through to achieve their dreams. 5 Likes 1 Share |

It's 2017, the first building in EAC has been completed. More buildings are springing up and that's when someone now decides to go on a spree to publish nonsense on the project that has attracted so much interests from the world. Keep hating okay while developmental works on EAC continues. We all would be on NL the day the city would be completed. *long hissssssss* 2 Likes |

DrinkWater10: Fundamentally the major test that the designers of the 'Great Wall' undertook was the subjecting of waves to a scale model of the Lagos Coastline at Bar Beach. See video below The Great Wall is like a fence built in water that shields the coast against the strength of waves which erode the coastline (remember the perennial Bar Beach flooding wahala?). The Fence will 'ring in' a body of water. It is this body of water that is being sand filled to create Eko Atlantic City. The Fence model tested by the dutch designers was a scale model so scientifically the question is? Can you scale water? Can you scale sand? If you cannot scale water the way you can scale say a 1 metre diameter ball to a 1cm diameter ball (reducing scale) then how can you effectively predict the effect of water on the sand? With sea water rising the basic theory of the Great Wall will be subjected to LIVE tests which go over and beyond laboratory tests. With regard to EIA, neighbouring beaches are experiencing higher levels of flooding and erosion after the commencement of dredging for Eko Atlantic. With regard to transport, Lagos vehicular traffic around Victoria Islanf and Ikoyi will be further aggravated as Eko Atlantic becomes more populated. I just saw a link to this thread on twitter. Maybe the Op was sponsored or maybe not but isn't it strange that EIA for this project was submitted 3 years after dredging began. Lagos island is flooded right now and what will happen after EAC is completed is that the properties there maybe safe but how about VI, Ikoyi, Lekki, etc. Let's not forget about climate change that's bringing about rising sea levels. The whole Lagos island maybe under Atlantic sea in a few years time if something drastic isn't done. We should stop burying our head In the sand because of bigotry and 30 pieces of silver. 1 Like |

No great Wall can withstand the fury of mother nature when she is provoked. With climate change and rising sea level and ineptitude of Nigeria as a third world country, I fear for the future of that project. |
