4.02/5.0 will be around 3.45/4.00 after conversion, using WES conversion standards. Normally, admission from top US schools (like Harvard, Yale, UMD, etc.) are almost 100% sure tickets to getting your visa at the embassy, even without GRE. However, with average schools like the one you got admission from, you need to write the GRE to boost your chances of getting the visa, not just getting the visa but getting it once at first attempt. 3 months is just enough time to take the GRE and score at least 310 to 315. The more time spent studying for the GRE the higher your score. GRE, though SS3 level math and english, has its own tricks and you need time to study for it and understand its tricks. Also, your GRE score could help you get funding before or after you arrive the US, you never might know. So study hard for it, take it and do your best. Nothing comes easy in life.

There are other types of GA such as administrative GA (non-academic type) and for such ones you do not need GRE to get them, just related work experience and maybe the right network. If you do not get a GA before arriving, some people do get GAs after arriving in the US just before school starts but they often have to come in early to run around campus for the GA search.

Abeg take every word wey my oga tell you seriously because i am a living testimony. My guy, try to write and ace your GRE. Bigfrancis baba, i go call you in few minutes.

University of Maryland (my school), one of the top 25 Engineering schools here in the US, offers MS in Cybersecurity (related to computer network security that you are interested in). http://advancedengineering.umd.edu/programs/cybersecurity . Tuition is about $8k per semester.

UMD also offers MS in Telecommunications. http://www.telecom.umd.edu/requirements-and-deadlines Tuition for this program is more expensive, about $10k per semester. GPA requirements for both courses is 3.0/4.0, which also translates to 3.0/5.0 on our scale. TOEFL is waived for Nigerian students.

These programs are non-thesis with a mini research paper to write at the end and the departments do not offer GAs but there are many administrative GAs on campus (UMD is a big one) and GA jobs are posted here regularly: http://ejobs.umd.edu

UMD is located in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) metropolis area and is a bubbling hub of IT jobs, companies and activities. You have so many chances of job employment upon graduation. Cybersecurity and Telecommunications are IT courses. Also, Maryland is located in an area of US that has fairly stable weather conditions. It might be somewhat expensive, however the payoff is in the end. Good luck.

1)I don't think it's possible to apply to a u.s university with just your WAEC result.I avoided a lot of schools during my application process and applied to Dickinson state university because they were the only one that accepts only WAEC results, but to my utmost surprise they still requested for my high school report cards.
2)I'm sure the Morgan state uni application for international students has closed since last month.

Please someone once stated here that it's much cheaper to send one's i20 to an address in the US before sending it from the US address to Nigeria. I tried doing that today using eshipglobal and I could only find FedEx, UPS and DHL options with their rates ranging from $24-$30 for shipments to the US, which negates what my school stated that the i20 will be sent using USPS if a US address is provided(which I believe would save cost). So I would like to know if anyone has ever used eshipglobal to send his/her i20 to a US address and if it was sent using USPS or these other courier services.

Thanks

cc slimmy2005, imperiouxx, Walspring, femi321 etc.

Using it to send to a US address you will need a US visa or master card and our naija card is not allowed only Paypal and our yeye CBN and bank leaders have stopped our card from working on Paypal

hello guys, pls wat is the meaning of evaluated high school record, Notarized Affidavit of Support, Transfer Eligibility Form. Am applying at morgan state uni & this are part of what they are asking for

Evaluated high school record is your high school transcript that has been evaluated by any evaluating agency but it is your waec result that will be needed and it will cost you more than 100k to get this done like requesting from waec and pay Wes or Ece fee due to current exchange rate

Notarized affidavits of support is a letter given to your from the school you are applying to or written by you sponsors stated that they can sponsor you and you will take it to court and notarized it and it cost less than 2k

Transfer eligibility form will be given to you by your school or download on their website if you are apply to the school as a transfer student..

There are many schools in US that can verify your waec result online from waec site instead of asking applicant to go and do evaluation unless they want to offer scholarship to the applicants and there are still schools who grant scholarship without asking for evaluation

so how do i send mywaec result to this WES and my waec is not one sitting. can i use neco? thanks for the info

You need to go to waec office located at yaba beside yabatech and get this done
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 11 by Walspring: 9:54am On Mar 23, 2017
saninwa:

WES accepts only WAEC. You have to register with WES and select a document by document evaluation, pay the necessary fees, then get your WES reference number. Go to the WAEC office nearest to you and have your WAEC result sent directly to WES. You pay WAEC for the service. WES gets your document, sends it back for verification; pending when WAEC responds to the verification request, then the evaluation will be done. It's a very long process though, takes more than a month on most cases.

This can only be done at waec office yaba beside yabatech unless if they have change the policy

You don't need to evaluate waec... If you have completed more than 2 or 3 years undergraduate in a college or university. EXCEPT YOUR INSTITUTION WANTS YOU SPECIFICALLY TO EVALUATE YOUR SECONDARY SCHOOL.
I only evaluated my undergraduate.

The applicant in question is not a grad student according to his/her post

Good evening nairalanders, I nid help.
I was given admission by Southern Illinois University Edwardsville to study Environmental Science in spring 2018. GRE and TOEFL were waived for me. They are yet to approve my funding. Speaking with the director of the program, he told me a GRE score of >300 or a GPA of above 3.75 on a scale of 4 will b suitable to get d assistantship. What is d equivalent of my 4.02/5 GPA on 4 scale. Will nt having GRE reduce my chances of getting a visa? Can I prepare and write GRE in 3months n get a score higher than 300? Or there r other funding opportunities in the USA that don't require GRE scores?
@Lagosismyhome and odas. Pls I need your inputs.
God bless

I have made my points clear for those that wanna understand it. What you just said is quite similar to mine. THE NEED FOR A TRANSCRIPT OR RESULT EVALUATION, whether waec or whatever. For a clearer admission decision.

Another truth is that majority of schools who asked for evaluated high transcript is based on awarding scholarship to the applicant

As long as each school with their policy we all knew our pocket and what we can afford and we don't need to deceive ourselves unless we just want to regret it
