I knew he was here but I thought it was just a diplomatic visit to coincide with the Navy Festival. I wonder who the company is, though I suspect it's Paramount.

paramount has some good options but personally I feel NN will go for those Damen patrol boats, a private company in Nigeria already operates several and they take part in joint exercises with NN.

Seems like he also took a tour of at least one of your frigates and a submarine, only if he led a team of crack commandos to commandeer both vessels and sail back to Nigeria grin

And we would have some trouble finding them grin

So does Paramount (have products in Nigeria, I mean). And a base in Port Harcourt and another office up the coast in Ghana.

Yep. Nautic Africa, which built the Nigerian Guardians I posted, established the base for vessel life-cycle support and servicing. When Paramount acquired Nautic, there was even talk of expansion so that the remaining 4 of the 7 Guardians could be fitted there.

I am afraid you might have confused me or yourself, the Guardians 1, 2 and 3 were designed and constructed by Damen

Army of Gabon again.

To my knowledge the Gabonese do not currently operate any tanks, much like Cameroon all their armour is wheeled.

Pics below depict a WZ-523, EE-9 Cascavel, and some kind of Paramount MRAP (I'm guessing a Matador).

And now I pile on the confusion:

Cape Town-based shipbuilding and maritime solutions company Nautic Africa will be building seven of its new 35-metre Fast Multi Role Patrol Vessels for West African clients, at a total value in excess of R600 million. The vessels will be the first in their class to be designed and built in South Africa.

Nautic Africa has already laid keels on two of the vessels, with three to follow in July. It expects to make its first deliveries next year and to complete the contract early in 2015.

The orders resulted from the company’s collaboration with West African navies, as well as oil and gas companies, to develop an effective way of counteracting illegal fishing, piracy and other illicit offshore activities.

James Fisher, Nautic Africa CEO, said, “The orders reflect our customers’ confidence in our ability to deliver solutions-based products, coupled with unparalleled on-the-ground service and support.” They have also cemented plans for the expansion of Nautic Africa’s second West African base, in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, which will focus exclusively on vessel life-cycle support and servicing. The company already has a base in Takoradi, Ghana.
They will utilise the South African-developed Nautic ‘Super Shield’ Ballistic Protection system and will be sold with a multitude of role capabilities, key being the Nautic Fast Deployable Interceptors (FDI), vessels known as Guardians.

Jake, I found the source of the confusion: sometime after Paramount acquired Nautic, Paramount changed the name of the vessels from Guardians to Sentinels. I imagine to avoid precisely this confusion.

so Nautic Africa is Paramount, but you can agree with me that Damen built 3 of 4 guardian patrol vessels for HIOSL, "Damen’s Local Service Hub in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, will ensure that maintenance, repairs and any additional support is handled by Damen engineers."
so Damen also has its own base in Port Harcourt.

Yes. Incidentally, yet more reason I suspect it's Paramount who'll supply the 14 NN vessels. Damen SA had no involvement with Homeland's Guardians; they come out of Singapore. And seeing the boats are to be acquired in SA, I imagine the NN would go to a SA company with direct experience in Nigeria.

It's a good thing that the boats would be mostly built in Nigeria. I was about going ballistic until I got to that part.

Nice to see that the SAAF brought out jets for him, this should give the SAAF a much needed flying time.

In all, I'm Okay with the visit, but the SA navy chief though, talking about budget first, instead of a shared maritime goal to see security in African waters....... SMH!

I think you misunderstood. We cleared up that Homeland acquired Guardians built by Damen Singapore.

As to the video you shared, I still suspect that the NN vessels from SA will be built by Paramount on account of the fact that of the SA companies, they have more direct experience with Nigeria (supplying 7 Sentinels). That gives them an edge over Damen SA.

You really are quite pathetic. No jets were brought out for him; that was file footage. And the SA naval chief was asked what similar challenges did they discuss facing the SA & Nigerian navies. Our naval operational environments are dissimilar and the most common challenge remains fulfilling objectives with ever-diminishing budgets.

Oh well, dogs bark while the caravan moves on.

Disagreements imply differing interpretations of commonly recognised facts. And yes, one can walk away from those.
Not, however, falsehoods.

I think we are looking at 27 - 35 meters IPVs. Vessels that can patrol out to sea and in-lands also.

NAF TO EVOLVE NEW POLICY ON DOCUMENT SECURITY

The need to evolve a well articulated policy to safe guard classified documents has been brought to fore. Participants at the just concluded workshop on document security organised for unit commanders and administrative personnel of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) agreed that effective document security policy for the NAF would enhance professionalism and prevent leakages of classified information to unauthorised persons. The NAF also needs to ensure that a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is designed for units while training and retraining of administrative personnel in document security should be intensified.

While addressing participants at the closing ceremony, the Chief of Air Staff (CAS) Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar reiterated the need for attitudinal change by NAF personnel in the discharge of their official duties noting that right attitude to work would ensure improved productivity and efficient service delivery.

T5 to their Army.
