And we play Atletico youth in the final right? smiley

wish our boys the very best... and I saw that red card from the highlights on YouTube... mehn... that referee na wa ooo. But I think Rafiu Ishaq got the red card for retaliation.... what shocked me was that the referee seemed not to deliver propee justice to the sundowns player who committed that reckless foul... na wa

Gents.

There is a pending issue on ground.

The team is gradually gelling and even the RB and LB problems we had are gradually being sorted out.

The back up goal keeper (for the short term) is also IMO no longer a problem Akpeyi has 3ce proven he is up to the task.

Guys! We dnt have a first choice goalie!

Ikeme has proven that he cannot be trusted.

In the do or die return leg clash against Egypt. He was ruled out.

In the crucial 2018 WC qualifiers game against Algeria same happened.

And now again in crucial grade A friendly against Senegal he got injured.

Na so we go dey continue?

We go wan play Cameroun now the guy go injure.

Guys lets discuss.
We all here are stake holders as far Nigerian football is concerned.

Info i got is that for Rohr, his crew and the NFF this was the last straw that broke the Camel's back.

What are our options?
1. Call back Enyeama
2. Promote Akpeyi to first choice and make Ikeme a back up.
3. Promote Akpeyi to first choice and stop inviting Ikeme and promote one of the young goalies ti 3rd choice.
4. Some would say we make one of the young goalies first choice.
5. Leave Ikeme as first choice. Any day he is fit he keeps goal else Akpeyi keeps goal. Just like it is presently.
6. Any other option.

Knowing that this a decision we need to make before the AFCON qualifiers in june and WC qualifiers in August we need an immediate solution first before thinking of the long term.

Lets discuss this burning issue pls.

Akpeyi is a massive drop in standard from Ikeme and Enyeama. He is too jittery to be first choice. My mind will not be settled all game.

If Ikeme is fit, he plays. I still think we can get a more capable deputy from the local scene or youngsters in Europe like Nwokolor.

My bet is still on Alampasu. Alloy Agu should stop the games. He knows the drills he wants his players to perform well at training. Invite the promising keepers to camp. This friendly was a good opportunity. Give them the drills and let the best mount the post.

I doubt the others will outclass Alampasu with the drills. Just like we are seeing with Success. Sometimes, these European coaches can keep a good player down. Drill the keepers and selected the best. If Alampasu is better, give him the gloves.

First of all yes I am involved in football but I am not an agent.

First assumption wrong I was actively seeking Sunday Mba and Etebor to come to the Premiership. When both were in Warri Wolves. I mentioned Mba before I am accused of tribalism with regards to Etebo. But the red eye hungry guys around them made us withdraw. Yes I go watch Warri Wolves inside Sun for Warri I don't just sit in Protea hotel.

Let's equate the Bundesliga 2, is it Superior to the Championship or even League one. It's open to debate. However, how many professional league games has Bazee played compared to Onyedinma who is in the same age range although actually younger , plays as a winger or midfield. Voted Man of the match at 18 playing against Charlton in championship for Millwall. Onyedinma has played 85 professional league games and Bazee has played 26. So if I consider Onyedinma a better prospect is that bias or informed rational assessment.

When Onyedinma will now sign for a premiership team for £10 million plus. Then we will start to lobby too cap him when maybe it's too late.

So who have I insulted State facts and not assumed sentimentality or quoting those who have totally misquoted me.

I have mentioned Tega Abraham 3rd highest goalscorers in the championship or am being biased because he is from Delta. Scoring twenty goals in the championship is not Ewah & Dodo. Or we could mention Oviemuno at Liverpool played already a few first team games.Or Tega Onumah at Tottenham played 12 games same number as £30 million Sissoko.

So is this irrational to say they should be courted now and not later. Or I am being biased towards England innit boys as some have said.

I could talk of all the Naija boys in Chelsea but there is not enough space. Some of all these boys from obscure leagues in Europe would probably not be able to get into Chelsea youth set up. So what is the bias.

I find this forum educative, informative and conversant I have learned a lot about NPFL. Indeed one of the reasons I found myself in Warri watching Etebor. And he is not the only one I have watched.

Rohr can not call everyone. If his apparatus in Germany makes him feel we can gain from Bazee, I think he should go ahead. You might like what These other players offer but Rohr might see something in Bazee he prefers.

7 Positives Nigeria Can Draw from the Senegal Draw

After the tension filled build up to the Nigeria versus Senegal international friendly brought about by anxieties from late arrivals on both sides; accounts of stranded Senegalese players; and the bizarre news of a relatively unknown goalkeeper who suddenly found his way to the Super Eagles fold, the game has finally come and gone. Here are the seven positives Nigeria can draw from the Senegal draw:

GREAT TEST: The match was a true test of how Nigeria could fare against a physical team similar to their World Cup qualifying foe, Cameroon. From Nigeria’s performance, we can gladly say the players collectively adjusted quickly to the circumstance. Pulling a fine performance against a team like Senegal who was one of the AFCON favorites in Gabon earlier in the year, a team placed higher according to FIFA’s latest monthly rankings, and a team with arguably more established players in Europe compared to the youthful Nigerian team, we can say indeed that Nigeria has shown great promise by this feat
OMERUO STILL HAS A PROMISING FUTURE: Omeruo’s performance in right back showed that we may not be lacking in that department after all. We can attribute his fine showing to his regular outing in the Turkish league, and how his Alanyaspor coach have used him in positions other than his familiar Center-Back role.
ISAAC SUCCESS IS THE TRUTH: We have found a solid physical force in the Watford forward. He is the perfect man to trouble Cameroon. He once bullied Eric Bailey of Manchester United during Watford’s famous home win against the Red Devils in the current Premier League season. He again showed that potential when he came against Senegalese defenders. He will definitely get another call up. Success has cemented a place for himself in the Super Eagles after this fine debut.
NIGERIA STILL YET TO LOSE UNDER ROHR: Gernot Rohr is still yet to experience his first loss since taking over as coach of the Super Eagles. That Nigeria could come back against a cohesive Senegal, outlines the fact that Nigeria can even do better going forward. Rohr should definitely get the credit.
IHEANACHO IS 5 OUT OF 8: Kelechi Iheanacho has shown great potential in the green-white-green especially in front of goal. He has scored five times after eight international caps. Should he keep this momentum, he could end up becoming Nigeria’s all time highest goal scorer, especially considering that he is still yet to reach his peak in the game.
OGU-NDIDI PARTNERSHIP: Ogenyi Onazi’s injury led to the introduction of John Ogu in his place, and like a blessing in disguise, the Super Eagles midfield did not just have a new look but a solid one — “indeedi”. Could this be the end of the long standing Mikel-Onazi midfield partnership? Never mind the question as Mikel is mostly seen in the attacking midfield role.
IWOBI IS NOT RIPE FOR THIS: As far as the African game is concerned, Iwobi should be left to study proceedings from the bench, before introduction. He again was not his usual Premier League self against Senegal, just as he did in Nigeria’s last game World Cup qualifier against Algeria. He still has a goal to his name — let’s not take anything away from him. But going by his latest performances in Super Eagles colors, he is certainly a player as a an option, but not a player for the moment.

Very impressive article. I also believe in the Ogu-Ndidi partnership. I am also having thoughts about Iwobi but I feel Rohr will straighten him after the team goes through the tape of the game.

* Nigeria, Senegal match organizers upload match for viewing

The Nigeria Football Federation has dissociated itself from the failure of a plan to have Thursday’s international friendly between the Super Eagles and Teranga Lions of Senegal in London streamed live to interested Nigerians.

NFF’s Director of Media and Communications, Ademola Olajire explained on Friday that the task of having the game put up on livestream, as well as other details like TV production and stadium readiness, was entirely that of the organizers – Eurodata Sport.

“The livestreaming of the match had nothing to do with the NFF. Our clear responsibility was to present a team, by the name Super Eagles of Nigeria, while other tasks were squarely on the plate of the Match Agent. Our Official FIFA Match Agent, Jairo Pachon of Eurodata Sport had an agreement with some firm in Nigeria to livestream the match, through receiving signals from the production team at the stadium, but a technical hitch that arose late in the day conspired to make that impossible.
MR. ADEMOLA OLAJIRE NEW

Ademola Olajire, NFF's Director of Communications

“Mr. Jairo Pachon himself has explained that the hitch was brought to his notice at about 8pm on Thursday, just as the match was kicking off. There was definitely no attempt by the NFF or its Match Agent to scam anyone.”

On Thursday, Jairo Pachon told thenff.com that efforts were at an advanced stage to upload the full match for people to watch for free.

“We have perfected the plan to upload onto a link and then make it public, where people can go and enjoy the full match. What happened was unfortunate but it was a technical issue that nobody could rectify at the time.

“We have the highest regard for fans of Nigerian football worldwide and will never take them for granted. The company concerned will refund in full the monies paid by people who wanted to watch the match on livestream.”

Both teams played out a 1-1 draw under seven degree Celsius weather at The Hive – home ground of League 2 clubs, Barnet FC and London Bees. 2017 Africa Cup of Nations quarter finalists Senegal went ahead in the 54th minute through Moussa Sow but Kelechi Iheanacho clawed the Eagles back from the penalty spot nine minutes from time.

The Super Eagles will take on the Etalons of Burkina Faso at the same venue and time on Monday, in their second friendly game.

Aboubakar fires Cameroon past Tunisia

Cameroon striker Vincent Aboubakar

by Austin Ditlhobolo

Cameroon edged out Tunisia 1-0 in an international friendly match at the Stade Mustapha Ben Jannet in Monastir on Friday night.

Tunisia coach Henryk Kasperczak named a strong starting line-up which included Valencia defender Aymen Abdennour and OSC Lille midfielder Naim Sliti.

Hugo Broos, the Cameroon coach, also fielded a strong side with Sevilla Atletico goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa and Lorient striker Benjamin Moukandjo both starting.

It took only 14 minutes for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champions Cameroon to take the lead through their talisman Vincent Aboubakar.

Moukandjo, the Cameroon captain, set up Turkey-based striker, who beat Tunisia's experienced keeper Aymen Mathlouthi to make it 1-0 to the Indomitable Lions.

The Eagles of Carthage tried to push for the equalizing goal, but visitors contained them until the referee blew the half-time whistle and it was 1-1 at half-time.

Belgian tactician Broos introduced Cameroonian attackers Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Karl Toko Ekambi at the beginning of the second-half.

Kasperczak, the Polish coach, responded by pulling out Karim Laribi for Hamza Lahmar in the 67th minute as Tunisia looked to equalize.

However, the Cameroonian defence which was led by Michael Ngadeu Ngadjui stood firm at the back in the dying minutes and the Indomitable Lions won 1-0.

Daniel did better than Akpeyi at the Olympics. Or at least let me say he was the preferred choice.
so how come is he ahead in the Super Eagles?

We need to invite more goal keepers when we have friendlies like this, and really access them.

We need to leave Enyeama alone

I do not get what Alloy Agu is doing anymore. If he can not make coherent choices, he should step down and let us bring Ike Shorunmu back.

By the way Icon4s, you can see my point about Akpeyi making a terrible mistake. I think the best choice with no respect to age is what we need in goal.

How many goals did we concede when Yobo held sway in the run up to the Afcon gold medal?
At the top of my head I recall we only conceded one goal (a penalty gift from the ref) in the group stage against Zambia.
How exactly did we get better when Yobo was replaced?

To the best of my knowledge, I agree with Mickael2. During the AFCON, I was one of those who clamored on the match thread for the dropping of Yobo. He was poor and held the team back. We became better defensively after Yobo left the squad.

As the captain of the team, if Yobo was performing well, he would not have lost his place in the team.

Nigeria was quite average in the group phases of AFCON 2013. We improved after beating ivory coast. It had nothing to do with Yobo per se.

Yobo was a good servant for Nigeria through his playing days.

Yobo and Obiora Nwankwo were some of the culprits. Dropping them saved us. Yobo was the captain of the Super Eagles and lost his place. He was not impressive.

Super Eagles Future Is Bright Under Rohr - Adepoju

By Augustine Akhilomen

Ex international, Mutiu Adepoju believes the array of young players that featured in the Super Eagles 1-1 draw against the Teranga Lions of Senegal in an international friendly match at the Hive Stadium on Wednesday has really raised hope of a bright future for the team.

The Teranga Lions broke the deadlock in the 58th minute through Mousso Sow's clinical finish before Kelechi Iheanacho level parity via a penalty in the 83rd minute after he was brought down.

However, the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations winning player told Soccernet.com.ng that Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr has really improve the composure of the senior national, most especially with the game against Senegal.

"I am quite impressed with the performance of the Super Eagles in their 1-1 draw against the Teranga Lions of Senegal on Wednesday. I am impressed because of the youthfulness in that team, where majority of the players are within the age bracket of 24 years," Adepoju told Soccernet.com.ng.

"To be frank, Super Eagle technical adviser, Gernot Rohr has really transformed the senior national team, with his tactical and technical inputs. I believe the future is bright with the team if he maintains such a balance. And I am confident that the Super Eagles will qualify for the 2018 World Cup with what I have seen," he said.

Ndidi Can Erase Mikel From Super Eagles - Makinwa

By Augustine Akhilomen

Ex international, Henry Makinwa has revealed that in-form Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi should be saddled with the responsibility of the Super Eagles midfield ahead of Mikel Obi.

Makinwa was impressed with the splendid display of Ndidi in the heart of the Super Eagles midfield in the team's 1-1 draw against the Teranga Lions of Senegal at the Hive Stadium on Wednesday.

The Teranga Lions took the lead in the 54th minute through Moussa Sow before Kelechi Iheanacho equalized for Nigeria in the 83rd minute through a penalty.

"John Obi Mikel should allow Wilfred Ndidi to take charge for now. He is simply better off seeing his performance for his club and with the country," Makinwa told Goal.

"For our forthcoming qualifiers, they must work smarter and pick the best lads playing in their clubs regularly.

"Nigeria can't afford to lose out on major international tournaments for now. All players must be on their toes."

On the whole Akpeyi gets the bulk of the blame coz he had the choice to stay in line while the defender that went for the ball try to deal with it.... all the same shaa.... Akpeyi was quite jittery in that one moment and the defence too lost awareness of the man on the far post... only Musa tried to pick him out but failed...

Wow. Iheanacho looks the right shape, slim but his muscles are well defined. In the next match, I hope to access his movements off the ball. How fluid he is. But when it comes to his conditioning, he looks top notch.

Wenger Deserves Some Respect - Iwobi

By Augustine Akhilomen

Super Eagles forward, Alex Iwobi has charged Arsenal fans to show some respect on team's manager, Arsene Wenger.

Iwobi was in the starting line up in Nigeria's 1-1 draw against the Teranga Lions of Senegal in an international friendly match at the Hive Stadium on Wednesday.

Alex Iwobi has called on Arsenal fans to 'have a bit more respect' for Arsene Wenger, and insisted that players at the club still back their manager.

The Arsenal boss is under huge pressure following a string of poor results, with large sections of supporters calling for the manager's head.

'They need to have a bit more respect in my opinion,' he told Sportsmail after Nigeria's friendly draw with Senegal on Thursday night.

'I mean, he's been at the club for 20 years, he's achieved a lot, obviously they're a bit impatient with the results and where they want to finish. We also want to finish there, we want to win the league like anyone else, I can guarantee we are trying our hardest.

'Whatever happens we are the players, we affect the result. We don't really look at the banners or what fans are screaming, we focus on trying to do our jobs on the pitch.'

Akpeyi was at fault. I think he was nervous. He came out late and misjudged the flight of the ball. Aside from his brilliant footwork, I do not see why he should mount the post of the Super Eagles.

Rohr Happy With Eagles’ Strong Mental Attitude

Super Eagles’ technical adviser, Gernot Rohr has praised his players for ending the game on a high against Africa’s second ranked team, Senegal in a friendly in London on Thursday.

The German tactician made three quick changes in the second half, thereby giving the likes of Isaac Success and Austria-based striker, Olanrewaju Kayode the opportunity to make their senior national team debuts in the game.

“It is never the result that matters in a friendly match; it is the attitude of the players and what they bring to the game. I am satisfied with our whole attitude and the fact that after going down by a goal, we were mentally strong enough to come back and eventually ended the match on a high.

“You must also consider that we were missing key players like Carl (Ikeme), (Victor) Moses and the captain (John Mikel Obi). We put out a couple of players who had not featured for us before, like (Olanrewaju) Kayode and (Isaac) Success.

“We had to deal with goalkeeping issue and Daniel (Akpeyi) did not have any training with the team. (Ikechukwu) Ezenwa came on the eve of the match and also did not train. It was difficult planning for the game but I am satisfied with what we came up with and how we approached the game.”

The Franco-German, who has won three of four matches with the three –time African champions, drawing the other, specially applauded the output of the defenders as well as Ahmed Musa and Kelechi Iheanacho in the attack.

“It is a fact that Leon (Balogun), (William) Ekong and Elderson (Echiejile) had not been playing regularly in their clubs, and even Kenneth (Omeruo) who had been active was played in a different role. (Ahmed) Musa and Kelechi (Iheanacho) had also not been playing much. So, it was tough for them at the start but they picked up well and showed good character.

“Our captain (Ogenyi Onazi) went off injured after only 20 minutes. We had to choose between (John) Ogu and (Oghenekaro) Etebo, we opted for Ogu because of the stature of the Senegalese and I think he did well. Now, we know we have some strength-in-depth and that is very good for planning. I am also delighted with the confidence level of Wilfred (Ndidi).”

Looking ahead to Monday’s game against the Etalons, Rohr told thenff.com: “It is a different game altogether. I coached them before coming to Nigeria and I know they are not so much physical but a very technical team.

“You think of players like Bertrand Traore (who is with Chelsea FC of England but loaned to Ajax Amsterdam) and also Nakoulma who was impressive at the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, as well as Alain Traore, (Aristide) Bance and the young goalkeeper (Herve Koffi). It is going to be an interesting match but we will be at our best.”

I didn't say he isn't.... I said he isn't "entirely"... the huge bulk of the fault fell with Akpeyi but you cannot ignore how sow was left all alone at that far post

TheGoodJoe:

Akpeyi was at fault. I think he was nervous. He came out late and misjudged the flight of the ball. Aside from his brilliant footwork, I do not see why he should mount the post of the Super Eagles.

Just mention The word "Pep" and get a karate kick from me..... angry

TheGoodJoe:

Wow. Iheanacho looks the right shape, slim but his muscles are well defined. In the next match, I hope to access his movements off the ball. How fluid he is. But when it comes to his conditioning, he looks top notch.

And we play Atletico youth in the final right? smiley

wish our boys the very best... and I saw that red card from the highlights on YouTube... mehn... that referee na wa ooo. But I think Rafiu Ishaq got the red card for retaliation.... what shocked me was that the referee seemed not to deliver propee justice to the sundowns player who committed that reckless foul... na wa

Athletico no be beans o, they were up 4-0 at ht in their semifinals. They say our boy retaliated but who wouldn't after being kung fu kicked in the face with the bottom of a boot.

every time I see Yobo, the first thing that comes to my mind us a blue jersey, then a stretched leg, then Pogba and finally, an own goal cheesy

Apart from that memory the only other one i have is of him sitting on the bench during AFCON ....

Yobo needs to return from retirement and play one more game so I have better memories of him grin
for over 100 caps. well Yobo did very well 4 us,against Sweden at 2002 WC is his best performance perhaps .

U can't blame him for taking responsibility, it is his box he had every right to deal with that bad which was what he did but he miss hit the ball. The goal was really a freak accident.

If you come out like that, you have to be sure that you are getting it.

He distracted his own defender by his ill advised rushing out, he did not touch the ball and left the goal post open.

Iff not because of the peace that this thread loves to enjoy, I would have issued a red card to both of you. (I refuse to smile gringrin)

You might wonder how AC Milan coaching crew knew a young Donnaruma was ready for the big stage. I believe Identifying true talent comes first. Here is a drill pulled of by the coaching crew of AC Milan with Donnaruma.

I expected Alloy Agu to identify our promising talents and get him in the post in this friendly despite his age. Alloy Agu wasted this chance.
