Yobo played as a right back in Nigeria '99. We had Aghahowa, Haruna Babangida, Ikedia, Hashimu Garba, Melkam and Eddie Dombraye as our forward going players.
Yobo started out as a striker. You may need to dig really deep into the back end of the Internet to find this out.

You are right about his decision to come out.... he shouldn't have... this is where I nail it all on him however.... there is more to it....

Akpeyi takes 95% of thr blame for that goal but the other 5% I give to the whole defence....

Moussa Sow was left all alone to have some sandwich and wash it down with a soda before converting that loose ball into the goal.... the awareness of our defence for that moment was poor.

tbaba1234:

If you come out like that, you have to be sure that you are getting it.

He distracted his own defender by his ill advised rushing out, he did not touch the ball and left the goal post open.

The corner was already cleared.. Players just had to come out and take their zonal positions.

If the keeper stayed on his line that is a routine save.

Rohr Reveals Discussion With Salisu Yusuf On Stephen Odey Super Eagles Chances

The cry for the inclusion of MFM forward Stephen Odey in the Nigeria National team senior set up has gotten to the ears of the coach of the team Gernot Rohr.

Odey has scored 12 goals in 11 games this season after 14 rounds of games in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), a record that which many felt should give him a shot at the Super Eagles.

Rohr maintained his unbeaten run as coach of the Super Eagles after Kelechi Iheanacho penalty goal eight minute from time help them draw 1-1 against the Teranga Lions of Senegal in a friendly in London.

Speaking at the post match conference, Rohr revealed that one of his assistants Salisu Yusuf has told him about the form of Odey , and they are monitoring him ahead of future games.

The German Nigerian coach however said it’s not going to be a straight forward decision to call Odey up, as the team is currently pack filled with lot of options in attack.

He listed new boys Isaac Success, Olarenwaju Kayode and Joel Noah Sarenren Bazee as some of the players he has in his team who can compliment his preferred options upfront.

According to Rohr, Odey will get his opportunity but for now, the above mentioned players are ahead of him in the pecking order of the Super Eagles.

West Brom Technical Director Spotted While Running The Rule On Gent Moses Simon At The Hive

Reports reaching Owngoalnigeria.com editorial desk has it that English Premier League side West Bromwich Albion were at the game between Nigeria and Senegal which ended 1-1 at The Hive.

The game which had lot of English Premier League stars on display also had in attendance West Brom Sporting and Technical Director Nicky Hammond, who was there to run the rule on Gent forward Moses.

Birmingham Mail reports that West Brom first watched the wideman during their Europa League Round of 32 clash against Tottenham Hotspur which they won 3-2 on aggregate.

Last night Hammond was at The Hive once again to keep tabs on the 21 year old, who played for an hour before making way for Oghenekaro Etebo with Nigeria one goal down.

Simon has been heavily tipped to depart Gent next summer with England his likely destination following interest from some teams in the top division of English football.

Did I say Yobo did not start as a striker? I said in Nigeria '99, he was a right back. I am not browsing this. I can tell you Eddie Dombraye was left footed and was one of those who took penalties against Robbie Keane and Damien Doff's Ireland. He placed a low trick penalty and beat the keeper. He carried a bald cut.

Shittu scored the winner in the penalty and danced with his hands open. Hashimu Garba scored in the quarter finals against Seydou Keita's Mali. He scored from a cross from Ikedia down the right flank. Hashimu headed the ball and was running to celebrate when the keeper tipped the ball. It came back to Garba and he buried it.

I even did not mention Abubakar Musa who was playing for Eagle Cement of Port Harcourt. He was the captain of the team in the AYC and we lost the final to Ghana. Then there was a shuffle in the team and a brilliant forward, Emmanuel Aniele (I believe Icon4s knows him) lost his place.

I can tell you against Costa Rica, Aghahowa scored the first goal and the commentator said Nigeria just found a star. Haruna Babangida was through on goal towards the end and decided to show boat with a turn and a defender nicked the ball off him.

Melkam came in as a sub in some games. So, it is not Internet things. Rabiu Afolabi was the captain and in defence. Eneh had dada hair as right back. Obinna Okpala, a relation of Coach Sylvanus Okpala was a talented left back but hardly played because of negative reports of him getting a place into the squad through his uncle.

Dominic Oruma was a keeper and Wilson Oruma's younger brother. Looked a lot like Oruma and wore Wilson's Lens jerseys during training. Please, this is not browsing.

Yobo was not a striker in flying Eagles 1999 as you said. Finish.

How Watford Isacc Success Turned Nigeria Vs Senegal Around Following His Introduction

Watford of England forward Isacc Success debut for the Super Eagles of Nigeria has got a lot of people talking especially the way his introduction changed the game in Nigeria’s favour.

Success was introduced for Alex Iwobi who struggled to make an impact in the game and the 21 year old made a very good impression in his first senior game for Nigeria.

The game against Senegal which ended 1-1 will best be remembered for the players who got the goals for their respective sides in Moussa Sow and Kelechi Iheanacho, but Nigeria struggled to get going until the introduction of Success.

Stationed on the right of Nigeria’s attack for majority of the game, he initially took a role behind main striker and former U-20 mate Kelechi Iheanacho in attack before moving to the right.

Up against Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, Success was able to breeze past the left back with ease using a combination of of pace, skill and directness to settle the full back.

His physicality, style of play and decision making were all spot on yesterday as he blazed through in an unstoppable manner, without breaking stride he went pass his makers and picked his passes with ease.

Overall his introduction lifted Nigeria in the end even though Manchester City starlet Kelechi Iheanacho got the decisive goal in the 1-1 draw decided at The Hive.

He missed the ball completely.

If you claim, he touched it.. It does not make Akpeyi's case better because there was a defender there to clear properly.

After a corner , Players revert to zonal marking.. The players were covering their zones but there was no man in the post.

Okunowo actually, there was a tournament called the Meridian Cup that Nigeria played at that time. We beat Spain in that tourney that paraded some promising Barcelona starlets. One of the best players of that competition was Okunowo and Barcelona snapped him. At that time, he had more rep than Xavi. When he arrived Barca at that time, Xavi came to introduce himself to Gbenga Okunowo that he played against him in Meridian Cup.

Okunowo was good but injury robbed him of his spotlight.

As a fan of our local league I am very excited by this development. Normally after tournaments players stay idle waiting for a cub overseas but these boys already have clubs. The next step is them breaking into their club sides. They can join a growing crop of young players in the NPFL.

Yobo played right back and not attack. Which space would Yobo see to play attack in that team. Dombraye and Melkam were strikers and they were on the bench. At that time, Haruna Babangida was rated higher than Ronaldinho. He was the star coming to Nigeria '99. We had too many top quality players for Yobo to even get picked as a striker.

We still had Hashimu Garba.
