forgiveness: Oga, you did not watch the match simple and short. If you did, then you didn't understand what was going on. Onazi was the CMF so it was his duty to make himself available for a simple pass from the DMF and the CBs but he was running away from the passes, making himself unavailable, he wanted to chase the ball rather than keep possession of the ball, that was why everybody was misplacing passes because the CMF who was supposed to make them all gel was poor, or let me say he thought he was still the DMF. When Ogu came in what did he do? He didn't do any extraordinary thing, he just made himself available whenever a nigerian player had the ball. I understand the fact that you may have been blinded by the fact that he was the one making all the tough tackles but which top notch CMF still plays like that? Do you see Iniesta or Kroos or Modric or...just about any CMF playing like that? That is not how a CMF works. Had it been that Onazi was deployed to play as a DMF in that game then we can all agree that he was doing his work as a destroyer, but he was meant to be the CMF, the glue in the middle and he failed. 1 Like |

Icon4s: http://www.11v11.com/matches/nigeria-v-costa-rica-03-april-1999-266819/ This site gave an account of the Nigeria vs Costa Rica game. They listed Yobo as a Df/ midfielder. In this particular game, he replaced Eddie Dombraye and played an advanced midfield role. Komekn was actually correct about Yobo playing as an attacking midfielder in 99. |

SharpJoe: In what way was my judgement on Success wrong ![]() Talking factually using statistics he has played a total of 62 professional league games and scored 7 goals as a striker. Within those games 13 are for Watford with one goal. Statistics don't always tell the full story I admit to that. I have watched him at Watford he has shown small flashes but nothing commensurate with his £12.5 million price tag. My assessment was prior to the Senegalese game. So using the information at hand what would you call him a resounding success ![]() ![]() ![]() When Joke Jervis playing for League 2 Plymouth Argyle turned Liverpool 's Moreno and Lallana inside out several times even hitting the bar in the last minute did not propel him to to winger over night. He has to be consistent and prove he can do that time and time again. In the same vein Success had a great game I am told, what constitutes a great game by what yardstick ![]() How many assists did he make , goal scoring opportunities created and of course goals. Is that unfair to ask of a £12.5 million striker playing in the premiership. And the tag about I don't hail Nigerian players I had already highlighted Etebo when he was playing at Warri Wolves. I will not enthron mediocrity but I will hail exceptional talent. 1 Like |

SharpJoe:Haruna was a stubborn player. Too stubborn for his own good. I recall in the All Africa games, coja 2003. He was substituted by coach Musa Abdulahi, he simply walked up to the coach and demanded for his international passport. Some Nfa members pleaded and intervened. After that tournament his career took a turn for the worse. I think he later played in Greece or so the last I heard of him. If I was in Musa Abdulahi shoes, I would have handed him his passport and called his bluff. He never went far in the game because of his petulance. 2 Likes |

goldfish80: Nice addition. Yes Haruna Babangida played for Olympiacos in Greece with Rivaldo. Another stubborn player. Musa Abdullahi was another fantastic coach. Emmanuel Aniele also made that COJA 2003 team and they were brilliant. |

goldfish80: Ow I see. Firstly even from the site u are quoting from Yobo came in for Aghahowa and nt for Dombraye. Secondly are u saying bc Yobo came in for Aghohowa that Yobo went straight to play a striker's role? I am sure u are knowledgeable enough about football to know that not all substitutions are like for like. That substitution could have just been a tactical switch jst to beef up the midfield and defense bc we led for the greater part of that game only to concede a late equalizer. 1 Like |

goldfish80: Probably after the Costa Ricans equalized, Tunde Disu instructed Yobo to join the attack, that was why you saw him attacking. At that time, we went all out in search for a winner. Also this aligns with Icon4s point that Yobo as a defender could progress down the field to join the attack. Also why he could play the right back role. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2023, 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Icon4s(m): 11:10am On Mar 25, 2017 |
SharpJoe: That substitution was made about the 70th min. We were still leading 1-0. It could have been a tactical switch to beef up the midfield and defense and not a like for like substitution. modified: confirmed, Yobo came in for Aghahowa in the 79th min and Costa Rica scored in the 83rd min. So the coach, haven failed to secure a second goal, decided to pull out a striker and brought in a defender to secure the slim lead. O pari. 1 Like |

SharpJoe: How many times will u tell him that, but time and again he fails to acknowledge that. Why he keeps feigning ignorant of that simple fact, only he knows. He is being economical with the truth in this argument, reason I didn't care replying his long epistle. OK I take it that Success doesn't measure up to ur standard and to kill the impression that u prefer innits... , u told us u are sold on to Etebo' s talent. Injuries have blotted Success's first season in England worse than Etebo has experienced in Portugal. Success has shown flashes of brilliance the few times he's played -chambers, baily etc etc can testify to that but u deem it right to slack him while u claim to praise Etebo who has been a shadow of himself in Portugal (no thanks to injuries though), if that ain't being bias, I wonder what is. Good thing u admitted u kinda biased with English players because that's ur terrain and u understand their system and pedigree better. And about Bazee in comparison with other Engla9ja boys, sir plz don't be offended, when you get to the bank, do u stand waiting for the ATM Machine that reads "currently outta service" or u go for the next equally efficient machine ready to dispense cash? 3 Likes |

komekn:sir I understand you're not a fan of Isaac success but that shouldn't make u to start ridiculing him by your post...if you really know Isaac success from the roots...you won't question his abilities... I have had encounter with those who knew him right from his playing days at BJ foundation Benin...same BJ that posed as a joker in the last federation cup I think... I guess u never watched the under 17 nations cup where he gave a good account of himself and also at Granada... what has only undermine his progress at EPL is injury...I foresee him going places bearing no injury at all. for your claim sir...of him not justifying the price Watford placed on him....please give it time .he is just settling.. after all EPL clubs have wasted similar amount on English players who not worth more than £1m. after all Jordan hybe is one of them. 1 Like |

Loollll.... Honestly.... two things pissed me off with Nacho on that day even though he did okay.... his missed chances off potential assists from Iwobi and Simon..... And his failure to pass to success and Ogu who were free in that final moment of the second half... I pray Rohr barks it into him not to try that again! BascoVanVeli: |

I use this opportunity to call on other Past Super Eagles, Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles players to upload their clips for the younger ones to keep in touch with were we were coming from. Players like, Ikedia (Nigeria 1999 clips), Etim Esin, Chris Ohenhen, Emmanuel Ebiede the waist breaker, Sunday Ibeji and others. We need to preserve the memories of our great players. |
