Fine I agree the way Rohr went about it based on the report, is not the best way to strip him Musa of captainship. We are not going to have aperfect coach ever. If there is anything we want perfection, let it be in results. Mickael2: |

edi287: But, Alli will not create as much chances as Mikel or will not link the midfield to the attack as much as Mikel would. Mikel is more of an asset and will make the team play better. That is the true essence of a creative attack midfielder. 1 Like |

SharpJoe: If we are still talking about mikel does nigeria really have a chance at the WC or even getting there. There should be nigerian players who are capable of taking his place. If thats not the case then woe 1 Like |

SharpJoe: Not a bad formation anyways but, IMO, the players were somewhat incongruously placed. What's the rationale for leaving out your best player just to accommodate a player because of what he showed in a friendly? Sir I would rather u placed Etebo in the position u placed Ogu and Vicmo at the RW... |

SharpJoe: I don't know where you got your idea that he can't link the middle. Did you watch him at MK Dons? For starters, watch his game against Man U, he was the sole creator in that game. Just because he has a new role at Tottenham doesn't mean he can't do it abeg 1 Like |

maidaboi: I am sure u are talking about Adegboye Festus Onigbinde. aka the Modakeke high chief. I dnt think that was completely true. Players like Taribo West, Celestine Babayaro, Garba Lawal, Austin Okocha, Mutiu Adepoju, Nwankwo Kanu, Julius Aghahowa, Ike Shoromun featured in the 2002 AFCON under Amodu (RIP) and also 2002 WC under Onigbinde and nobody called for Onigbinde's family's head for that. A young fellow here (forgotten his moniker) recently raised the question as per what happened in that 2002 AFCON. I was going to reply but other events took over. Let me seize this opportunity to take us down memory lane on that. After narrowly losing the AFCON title to Cameroun in front of the Lagos fans in 2000 Nigerians and the team desperately needed to win that 2002 AFCON to heal the 2000 AFCON wounds. We got to the semis. So far so good. The team was doing well. Topping our group and beating Ghana easily in the Q. Final to book a meeting with Senegal in the semis. The other semi final was between Mali and Cameroun and that was the first semi final game. Cameroun won so we knew we stood a chance to take a revenge against Cameroun if we qualify for the final. Nigeria vs Senegal: The game ended 1-1 on regulation time with Senegal playing 1 man down for the greater part of the second half i think. Senegal went ahead in the first half of extra time. Nigeria had a penalty in the second half of extra time but Wilson Oruma missed. West lost 1-2 to Senegal. Hell was let loose in Nigeria. We were not used to losing. The previous 2 AFCONs we played in we reached the final plus that much awaited opportunity to snatch the trophy back from Cameroun, who we felt was a weaker team compared to their 2000 team, was gone. There was seemingly a 'Mafia' in the team. Information leaked that the 'Big boys' were calling the shots and not Amodu. There were reported cases of the 'Mafia' influencing choice of players selection. Who were the so called members of this Mafia? They were some of the senior boys in the team. No official list but from what we gathered they were Sunday Oliseh, Finidi George, Tijani Babangida, Mutiu Adepoju, Austin Okocha. All i can remember for now. The NFF summoned Oliseh to give an account of what transpired in that tourney. I think Oliseh damned them and travelled back to Europe. The NFF and Nigerian fans became more infuriated. Oliseh, Finidi, Babangida and i think Mutiu were banned from the Super Eagles. Some how Okocha was let off the hook due to pleas from fans. WE LOVED JAY-JAY DIE! Amodu was sacked and Onigbinde was appointed coach to lead the team to the 2002 WC. So back to ur question. The fans did not want to see the banned members of the Mafia not the whole team that took part in that 2002 AFCON. |

Mickael2: I did not watch him at MK Dons and I am judging him based on the multiple games I have watched Alli at Tottenham. His skill level when it comes to connecting is quite limited. Can you compare his connecting play to Eriksen before you write abeg. When it comes to connecting play, Mikel is absolutely brilliant. |

ChrisKels: I was talking in respect of the expected Burkina Faso or if we play anyone. If Mikel is in camp and I am drawing a list, I will certainly include him and drop Ogu. Then if Aluko is in camp, I will drop Iwobi for Aluko. |

Someone should plz confirm the authenticity of this news from completesportsnigeria.com Rohr Calls Up Chelsea's Aina, Sunderland's Maja To Super Eagles Chelsea FC and England U-20 defender Ola Aina has joined up with the Super Eagles squad for a training match with an unnamed side on Monday, Completesportsnigeria.com can report. Aina, 20, was handed a late invitation by coach Gernot Rohr for the training match billed for the Hive stadium on Monday. ChrisKels: I also agree with you in dropping Etebo for Victor Moses but that comes when Victor Moses is in camp too. I will also opt for Mikel over Etebo in Midfield because of his connecting play. I think with the creativity of our forwards, we need less of roaming midfielders but pass masters. For now, Mikel still trumps. |

pelezico: With Mikel, we have a rare get that is difficult to find. Just like how long it has taken us to replace Jay Jay Okocha. Although we have a promising creative midfielder in Kelechi Nwakali. We Obinna Nwobodo l and Ifeanyi Matthew also show promise. However, I do not see them having the touch and class of Mikel. I hope they can reach that level. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by SharpJoe: 4:51pm On Mar 26, 2017 |
ChrisKels: Aluko brings in brilliance, great touch and classy decisions. However, I feel the creativity of Aluko to operate in tight spaces, attract players to himself and skip past players is more of an asset in that role. Even if it comes to a Center attack midfield role, I will still prefer Aluko to Iwobi. With Victor Moses and Aluko playing wide, we will find it easier creating room for the forward players to shine. The destroying runs will keep the defender under pressure. Coupled with the creativity of Nacho and Success, we have a lethal forward line. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Icon4s(m): 4:54pm On Mar 26, 2017 |
SharpJoe: Talking about Jay Jay Okocha. It was as though he would never retire. He almost became an immortal to us. We could nt imagine the Super Eagles without him. Two to three yrs after he retired fans were still calling him back. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by ChrisKels: 4:56pm On Mar 26, 2017 |
SharpJoe: Nope, I didn't drop Etebo rather I adjusted the line up, I dropped Ogu instead to accommodate Vicmo but in real match situation, it would still be a tough call leaving out Etebo though we all know what Nwa-Obi Mikel brings to the table. Some twitching would have to be done but then again, I would replace iwobi with Etebo (if he must be benched) when the going gets tough. Chai u ain't even bringing Onazi into the picture. Are his days numbered?? We have a terrifying depth in Dat DMF oo. ndidi, Etebo, Onazi, Agu, Esiti, azubuike... Chai in pecking order ooo |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by edi287: 4:56pm On Mar 26, 2017 |
SharpJoe:True, but like you said, Tottenham already have Eriksen and to a certain extent Dembele for creativity. Not sure Pochettino would swap Alli goalscoring and superb off the ball movement for Mikel's creativity. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Mickael2(m): 4:57pm On Mar 26, 2017 |
SharpJoe: are you talking about connecting play or being creative? Because if you mean connecting play then Alli is absolutely marvelous at that. His close control is crazy, he can control a ball while on the run, he doesn't hide from the ball, he is always available and he has the one touch skill to beat his man, but when it comes to making a killer pass he is limited there. Eriksen is only better than him when it comes to long range strikes and killer passes, they are almost balanced in all other aspects 1 Like |

I read somewhere that Ola Aina, Jodh Maja and Where Eze of QPR will begin training with the super eagles come on Monday.... wow...should one ask me... this London camp wasn't a waste at all we will be getting more young stars into the eagles than we have thought.. hopefully we get some also from this NPL all stars under 17... as it is the only age grade team we have for now 1 Like |

ChrisKels: Mikel and Onazi held the midfield in recent years. Mikel’s quality is priceless, so I see him maintaining that role if we are switching to a 4-4-2 formation. Onazi who sat deeper cannot keep his place when Ndidi is in a top quality form. The young man is special and deserves to screen the defence. Onazi has a big task ahead of him. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by edi287: 5:00pm On Mar 26, 2017 |
pyrex23:Are you saying all Dele Alli is only good at is scoring?? Sure Mikel may be more creative, but Dele Alli also creates/attacks space superbly. If Mikel was in spurs, Pochettino would not play him as an AMF over Alli. Even Eriksen plays on the wing and and he's more creative than Alli. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by SharpJoe: 5:01pm On Mar 26, 2017 |
Mickael2: There is no comparison there. Eriksen is the superior player when it comes to one touch passing, skipping past players, dribbling, spreading passes an giving killer passes. Even when under pressure, Eriksen keeps the ball better. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by SharpJoe: 5:03pm On Mar 26, 2017 |
edi287: Mikel is the better player. The only reason Alli will get a look is his goals. Apart from that, Mikel trumps him. |

safarigirl:you see that sunday oliseh caused every thing... him appointing musa as his captain during the few months he coached eagles caused this problem and siasia after restoring the captainship to Mikel...made musa his assistant...that's where the problem started, musa already see himself as super eagles skipper in the absence of mikel... 1 Like |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by SharpJoe: 5:04pm On Mar 26, 2017 |
edi287: Precisely. The discussion was who is more needed in the Super Eagles, not Tottenham. Alli or Mikel. Clearly it is Mikel because he has the ability to make the team play better and he creates loads of chances for the forwards. |

Ola Aina can't play an official friendly for Nigeria without FIFA approval since he has already played for the English youth teams. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Mickael2(m): 5:06pm On Mar 26, 2017 |
SharpJoe: One touch passing and skipping past players I disagree, that's Alli's main skillset. He can't dribble one on one more than Eriksen I agree, he can't spread passes like Eriksen I agree, that's what creativity is all about and I did point out that he is limited there |
