another disguise to keep our economy in check you won't see Asian tigers being a party to the agreement need I remind you of the guy in the Whitehouse a climate change denier were we a party to the co2 emission during the industrial evolution he'll no even now our co2 emission is so much less than the industialized economies we were not the originators of the problem why then must we be subservient to the agreement anyway,I don't care this is Nigeria after all nothing works here be wise ps this people are royally fucking us by crashing the crude oil price through fracking hence the reduced revenue stream into our country at the same time they want us to reduce our fossil fuel use do you see the irony 4 Likes |

The signature of a country that has, maybe 0.1% effect on climate based on its industrial and agricultural capacity, is... how shall I put it... purely ceremonial. But if it means we'll get serious about emissions from our soot emitting vehicles and gas flaring, then I'm all for it. It might mean more funding into solar, as opposed to coal for electricity. |

I wasn't surprised when the minister of finance on the sidelines of a climate change policy meeting in Washington blamed the western world for depriving us of the opportunity to exploit coal in electricity generation. What an irony. America, China and South Africa generate more electricity from coal than other sources. Drax which happens to be one of Europe's biggest power plant and in West Yorkshire was initially 100% coal before converting two firing towers to biomass input along side other flue gas absorption technology for reducing nox emissions. Why hasn't China ratified the bill or proposal in their country? Why is South Africa still building coal power plants (Medupi and Kosile if I get the spelling right)? Na we when no sabi our left from our right dey junket upandan dey sign treaty. Our president sef na minus. Him own na to shine teeth carry biro pretend to sign paper. If he is hungry of signing let them give him result sheets to append his 'holy signature'. There is no doubt that Nigeria is one huge joke and it's on us as citizens. A lawyer is minister of power. The world is going far as regards smart grid initiatives and we are yet to even achieve 5000MW of electricity. We keep deceiving ourselves with power plants coming online and nonsense policy drafts that never see fruition when we don't have the capacity to wheel out electricity generated from the gencos. Becos we have babalawos and clowns in our legislature who have degrees bought from black market (apologies to black market in UI), there is no sensible legislation as follow up of implementation (oversight functions) is merely an opportunity to ask for funding to attend conferences and receive allowances. It is obvious that Buhari is unaware of what he is signing. You want to put the cart before the horse. We have to develop local capacity in electricity generation and start with metering every house for accountability. Then we need a sensible pricing scheme like is used by the telecoms where electricity prices vary not in real time but at least twice in a day. TOU pricing is a more sensible pricing template for now compared to the MYTO I I pricing scheme. Furthermore we need a decentralised form of generation with emphasis on embedded generation. How can fashola comprehend these things? The Senate has to debate on the climate change treaty before it can become a legislation but let us be aware that one cannot give out what he/she doesn't have. Our penchant for what is bigger than us is legendary. 3 Likes |

To be honest, Nigeria is still a developing country and really does not need all this restrictions. When oyinbo were destroying the climate to fuel their development them no talk. The Paris agreement Obama signed is about to be repealed by Trump so as to get people employed in sectors that would have been closed. We need to get our priorities right in this country. Did China even sign this crap? 2 Likes |

eph123: The truth is, the Paris Climate Change agreement is already dead, so it is meaningless if PMB sign it or not. US and China are the major signatory and two major polluters. The US under Trump have started chipping away at that agreement with Executive Orders reversing Obama's previous Executive Order to EPA to enact measures to meet the goals set in the agreement. Funding for even climate change research/study are being pulled and given to defense and military in the US as we speak. With the US undermining the agreement, China is going to pullout, as it will be economic suicidal to hold themselves to the high standards set in the agreement, when their co-major polluter and competition has pulled out. 1 Like |
