Schools should employ good teachers mbok!

It's becoming norm that when an SS3 student finishes school, fails WAEC, and is unable to enter the university the next resort is to teach in any school around them

Learning starts from cradle and often time its taken for granted

I think it's an entitlement issue.

Generally, many some men in our generation have entitlement issues as regards romantic relationships. There seems to be a consensus that when a man spends on a lady, he somewhat owns her and she owes him allegiance.

This is the average mentality..... Unfortunately for this guy, he got himself drowned by it.

And that's why I like the idea of brands supporting her.... We need more men to realise that if you are spending on her, spend because you want to and not as a means to an end. And women should learn too that self-empowerment is the new sexy

Since you called me out am going to rant:
Mayor, I share your opinion that the Nigerian educational system is jaded but I think its failure should be blamed on the society, most of us lose the zeal to achieve our dream within a year in university, getting an A is more important than translating the values of learning, Sahara would probably not call us if we didn’t have a first class or 2:1..so we prepared for grades right from our first year…..

So I saw the Sahara mail yesterday asking me to submit my pixs for that essay we were encouraged to write then, at first I thought it was about the recruitment process but when I opened the mail it wasn’t. A part of me is scared another confident,

On the Twitter stuff, I think the girl took it too far by posting the guys details online, that was slightly aggressive and the fact that two banks suddenly bought into such controversy is so funny. Is that pure genius or otherwise? But a part of me condemns what that guy did… , but wait what would have happened if the amount spent was in the region of hundred thousand would the lady have refunded the money that fast? Jazmiynne

Yes truly, our society has its role in the issue. But I wouldn't wholly blame the society's expectations.
I think the educational system in use is also to blame. The system focuses on grades as sole qualifier of success. If our educational system engaged the creativity of our minds, perhaps the society would be forced to change it's perception too.

This is what I mean. If for instance, our educational system is such that a student termed "dull" in mathematics is allowed to explore his art potentials.... And the system has standard accredited schools for art such that while applying for jamb he can choose such schools as equal competition for the regular universities, it helps to gradually set us on the right path. It slowly becomes less attractive to assign all "intelligent" students to sciences

Well, we do not know the lady as an individual and as such cannot speak about her bank account balance. But yes, there are females who count hundreds of thousands as change.
That having been said, the money refunded was money spent on a date. As a personal rule, I never allow to be spent on me for a date what my bank account can't cover, not because I am planning to refund the guy but because I simply want to avoid unnecessary drama in case of incasity cheesy
So I daresay, if she chose to, a lady like #KeepTheChangeBae would have been able to refund whatever amount she allowed be spent on her for a date cheesy

About putting his details online, please what was he thinking when he called her out on social media? This is a classic case of backToSender... He came to twitter hoping to rubbish her and use her shine, but the matter change for am.

Welcome to The Wait grin

Hello. I support the motion that we should make the wait more bearable by discussing cool.

About the education system, to me, one's grades principally shows how disciplined an individual is. It isn't exactly a true test of intelligence. I just wish that Nigeria could be a more open society where those who are more talented in the arts or technicals can attend such schools meant for such purposes, without being looked down upon.

The #KeepTheChangeBae... I totally support the girl not because she's a female but because she sent the dragging back to him grin. How could he be that petty? When I first read his rant, I really thought it was some big dough spent. Only to discover that it wasn't much. Now, he has succeeded in making people drag Ibadan on Twitter. Even people living in worse places joined in the banter. I'm not from Ibadan but I schooled there; so, I have a soft spot for the place.

The guy that asked for our topics, mine was "Conservation is survival". I didn't get to present, so don't ask what I said.

I was also asked to send a profile picture for the #NigeriaStartsWithMe essay.

In as much as I would like to agree with you about the girl’s action, I would want you to know that relationships between the opposite sex in Nigeria is largely transactional, and the guy unluckily” met a girl many assume to be different, hence dooms day for the guy. This twitter saga is just one of the issues we have in Nigeria.

With regards to the educational institution, am of the opinion that the university system wont get it right until the economy becomes super productive, my premise is based on the following assumption:

Mark (facebook) decided to drop out of Harvard because he knew he would be successful with or without education, Warren Buffert decided to attend a particular graduate school because he wanted to learn from a particular professor who taught a module on stock exchange…
The same goes for Obama who became a community organizer after finishing from Harvard….

My point? This people grew up in an environment that allowed self expression since there was no poverty, people didn’t chase grades because their life did not depend on it and the universities in those climes were committed to real research and expression.

And I think each person’s mode of assessment was different.

And have also noticed one thing on Nairaland….have never seen a discussion on General Electric(GE)……people dey fear?

Longman6:

Lol I do not argue that the boldened is wrong. Which is exactly the point why I love the drama that has ensued from #KeepTheChangeBae.

Too many ladies have turned relationships to business transactions. And the men have bought into accepting that falsehood as reality. That's why I feel that it is the women who have bred this entitlement mentality in the men. In fact I saw a prewedding pix where the lady held a placard saying the guy is her "ATM" and I was like wawuuu shocked shocked

The point however is that the #KeepTheChangeBae drama helps in reminding babes that relationships shouldn't be trade or business transactions.... At the same time teaching the men that "all babes are babes but some babes are more equal than others"

So the idea isn't to deny the reality but to aid in changing the rhetoric wink
