Here i need a bit of enlightenment but as per the highlighted , could it possibly be interpreted to mean that outbound MG & WU will be almost impossible to send from DMBs ? Since what they send out are usually inbound remittances from same operator.... could you shed more light on the implication of this, i get it a fair bit but still have gaps to fill...

If the rates keep decreasing that's what it'd mean, because remittance inflow will stagnate. An overvalued Naira is bad for everyone including the CBN.

Remittance increased from $21b in 2015 to $35b in 2016. To put that in perspective, it was $19.*b in 2010.

There are multiple theories, but mine is that inbound remittance shot up because of the higher value of dollars (I'm yet to hear any other convincing argument). In fact, Bloomberg reported that after the float and devaluation in Egypt, remittance shot up, so there's a fact to back my theory.

In a publication i read yesterday, Bismarck Rewane opined that CBN will likely chill out on pump action cos forwards are maturing next week or so... Manufacturers are about to get FX they paid for months ago right?

I still believe the 500s won't happen again but 450 looks like it could be a possibility if oil price doesn't get to the $58-$60 band sooner than soon.

CBN is chilling out mainly because the reserve is taking a hit. Rising reserves have been a very firm (I should add 'potent') propaganda tool both for the CBN and the FG. Forwards maturing is an additional reason not the primary reason, with all due respect to Rewane.

Even after meeting up forwards needs, they'd have to settle manufacturers who they told earlier this month to start ordering for dollars to be sold in May. The CBN's hands are full and the reserve is about to take a beating. A sound beating. They haven't released reserve figures for this week yet, the CBN overplayed their hands this time.

Oil price isn't getting to 58-60 band until H2 2017 when the effect of OPEC and non-OPECs decision to extend the cut, and end of refinery maintenance season take full effect. And yes, the CBN will intervene when it gets to 500+ even if oil is at $45 (the intervention is all about image laundering and politics, nothing else. No one in the CBN and FG genuinely gives a rat arse about the living conditions of Nigerians, it's all about 2019).

My forecast remains N400-N450 in the medium term. All eyes on the new BDC rate to be introduced on Monday. Not that it'll singularly stop the dollar from heading to 420, but it'd tell a lot about CBN's immediate plans.
