I was puzzled, and dumbstruck at the same time. I was just staring at the figure of Lovelyn without knowing what to do. Should I do as if I've known her before or just play the innocent card. I concluded that the latter will be the best thing to do, at the same time hoping she won't opt for the former

"why are you guys staring at eachother like...you've seen ghost? you know eachother?" Adedoyin said after some minutes of the awkard silence.

"No..not atall... Just..that.." I stammered

"nice meeting you Darous.." Lovelyn said smiling as she extended her hand forward for a handshake. I took that as a cue to escape this unprecedented situation.

"same here..the pleasure is mine". I reciprocated the gesture with a placid smile.

"now that the intro aspect is over, Lovelyn take Darous upstairs and let him choose a room of his choice for the time being."

"wait..why don't you just let me stay in the guest room down here? Since I won't be staying for long". I explained convincingly


"hmmmm...ok...but I don't ever want you feeling like a guest in this house..ok? Make sure you don't behave like a stranger, infact i want you to act like a real boss around here...ok?" Adedoyin said teasingly


"alright. Have heard o..boss it is.." i said smiling.


"I want to retire upstairs. Dinner will be served when we are all ready....feel at home Darous...see you later." she hugged me and, went upstairs.

Lovelyn led me to the guest room, I dropped my bag on the big bed. I surveyed the room, it was of moderate size, with a plasma t.v on a wall adjacent to the entrance

Lovelyn made for the door but I quickly held her hand and pulled her back.

"we need to talk."

"i know, but not now. trust me.."she said, barely audible.

"when are we going to? You owe me an explanation you know? You're suppose to be in oshogbo, but i just met you here" I said accusingly

"and you are also not mean't to be here, and i saw you here, its a tit for tat thing. You owe me, i owe you, lets just wait a bit longer till madam is asleep. I will come here at midnight." she replied

"midnight? Hmmm...no problemo.....but wait..did you just call her Madam? Why's that, isn't she your aunt?" i questioned


"its a story for another time..i really have to go. Ok..see you at dinner". She left immediately and I was left somehow confused.

I unzipped my bag and arrange all the stuffs tidily in the room.

I checked my phone, it was off. I switched it on and message notifications started flooding into the screen. Most are from Joke, and they carried similar content. She was worried that I didn't show up again.

I sent her a detailed whatsapp message telling her about all that happened and how I was bailed by my dad's sister. I promised to see her soon.

I waited for her reply for some minutes and when I didn't see any, I logged out.

I called Chioma, i explained everything to her. I also told her that I now owe my life to Adedoyin. She advised me to play safe. We ended the call after I promised to pay her a visit when am back at home.


Promptly at ten pm, Lovelyn came to inform me that dinner is ready. I followed her to the dinning table and Adedoyin was already there, probably waiting for us

Lovelyn served us each with the semo and ugwu soup. I ate it like an hungry man. I hadn't eaten anything atall throughout the day.

I really suffered that day, in the hands of those dubious police men.

After the dinner, Lovelyn excused herself and left me and Adedoyin at the dinning table.

Adedoyin asked me to tell her about myself in details. I narrated every single detail about my life, my parents and some of my hustles. She was really sorry for me.

"I really want to help you Darous, because am already having some kind of feelings for you, and I want to make sure I help you get to the top. Thats where you surely belong dear. But, am just scared, am scared...really scared" she said mushly.

"of helping people Darous, they always pay me with evil......let me tell you, i've helped alot of people in the past, but they always end up betraying me and I've promised myself that am never going to help people again but when I saw you at the Hotel on that night,..... there..there seems to be some kind of attribute to your appearance that makes me instantly forget about my cynical beliefs."she said, sounding awful.

"um..um..well, what can I say, I can't force you to help me, but I promise never to betray you."I said optimistically.

She was silent for some few minutes and then spoke up.

"are you sure about that? That you will never betray my trust in you? Because I can take anything from anyone, but, betrayal? from someone I love? I can't take it Darous..!". She lamented

" whatever you want to do for me Doyin, just know that, i won't renege or compromise your trust in me. I promise."

"hmmmm...then it means you won't find it difficult to take an oath with me?" she asked with a raised eyebrow.
