Is building a house an investment? How much can you realise in that your house in a whole year? Can you make up to just 500k in a year ? Rice sellers can make more than that in six months with money not up to what u are sinking in that house. U ain't definitely building that house in leki or VI , it is certainly in a remote area where a room won't be up to 2,000 naira. Is that an investment? Is that what you will use to give your children a better life ? Or u just want to join landlord association to pamper your ego. Think , man.

Keep shaking that f*****g head of yours till it falls off, what has libya got to do with this matter?

FYI, I know of nhis, but of what use is an insurance scheme that focuses on health of it's ppl if the coverage is abysmal?

Do you have any proof to show that it's abysmal?

My family has NHIS and I am a living testimony that it does work if you know your right. In 2013 when my dad wanted to undergo a surgery, it was the NHIS that covered it. In 2011 when my younger brother had respiratory problems, it was NHIS that covered.

So don't talk about what you don't know, kid.

GTFO my mentions abeg.

If there is, as proved by .any ppl that have quoted me on this thread, then i is ineffective, and should b scrapped. A lot of ppl don't know about it, I know of d nhis, but like u said only for civil servants. The other one u mentioned, is it govt regulated or some health insurance scheme that is for a select few?

I can't just help but laugh after going through the comments here, most of the people commenting here are probably still in school and are still been cater for by there parents so they know little about marriage, what is the minimum wage in Nigeria? "18,000". Let me use teacher's as an example there are some states where they pay teacher's less than 50,000 and they still went ahead to marry and enroll there kids in private school's, to the OP you will not remain on that salary scale for life my advice to you is if the lady is the understanding type please go ahead and marry her.
Despite attracting numerous likes, this is a very bad advise based on mere hope and not concrete plans fir future sustainance. This is a poverty mentality

Don't mind naira land kids. This is why i will never ask question about my life on a forum like naira land ? When i married in 2010, my salary was 54,856 naira, and my wife was earning 10k in a private hospital here in Ogun state. We were managing like that till 2014, when God opened our ways. But today, i have cars a business of mine , and a mansion to call a home. If i had allowed my salary to barr me from marrying my lovely girl , maybe by now I would have still be poor. Just be focused , cut your cloth according to your cloth, plan your life , look out for business opportunities wherever you are , don't compete with anybody, avoid owambe , at least for now . In the next few years , you will come here to pay homage to us.

However, you must ensure she is a woman that listen to sense, she must not be owanbeic , she must not be an iPhone lover . If she possesses these attributes, you can SURELY make it with that salary. Let me shock you, when i wanted to start my business in march 2014, i was only having 20k in my account, but just as the saying goes, when there is a will , there will always be a way, someone who wasn't a really a friend of mine , lent me 200k, after a while , i was able to walk to another aquitance of mine to lend 100k, as the business was expanding, i burrowed another 500k . Within a year, i repaid all the money with interest and gifted myself with a beautiful car to call a ride. My brother, don't listen to kids, plan your life , do good and let God handle the rest. Meanwhile, remember, God won't do for a man what he can do for himself. So , as you pray, think more of solutions , when doing this, you will be able to see and recognise God's mensager whenever he comes your way. Talking from experience bro.

Thanks there is more to life than we youths of today thinks of it.

One thing you can never be sure of is; wether you would be have more money tomorrow or you will fall off favor of money, you can only hope, and be positive about that tomorrow. so, YES YOU CAN!
you've to let go of fear and disbelief, and know that you can.
look beyound the money, look into yourself, look into your partner if all you see is "greater-tomorrow and greater-together", then ,by all means marry.
marriage is not necessary about how much you earn.
Did u just say marriage is not necessary about how much you earn? Sorry is the case of the person who follows this advise!!! No wonder poverty has continued to multiply in the land.

(1) Where you raise in Victoria Island?
(2) Are you a graduate? if yes what type of car are you using? what is your monthly allowance back then? and if No where are you schooling presently? I would have love to ask mpre questions but let's start from here.

You know, people's taste of what a comfortable life is different though, so I don't blame the guy you quoted for his views.

The thing I will tell you @OP is to think very hard and weigh your circumstances before taking such a weighty decision, because as I speak, a friend dived into marriage and all with this mindset, and with a combined income slightly higher than yours, but they are finding it very rough, but they are fighters sha, so dem day rough am.

So my guy, reason this thing very well...

And P.S. If you decide to marry, id advice to delay child bearing by 2 years or three, so you can be disciplined and save and plan So that you don't experience story that touch.
Children are expensive o
Hospital bills + Baby food + other contingency plans

Yes of course bt first of all, is ur fiancee d type dat cn assist d family financially, some women ar actually working bt u d husband wl neva see a dime 4rm dem, dey blive u ar d man and shud handle evrytin. It cn only work out if she is d supportive type
but why are most women always like dis, they are naturally financialy selfish in relationship. D man comes home puts everything on d table while d wife pretends and hides her own, i had an an experience where a once peaceful couple down my street suddenly became quarelsome and fighting almost every night, dis situation lasted for months. d public eventually got to know d cause of d fights when d man broke down in tears lamenting that d woman he lived with for 18years and had 3 kids with bought a land and built a house without confidding in him, while he goes to work to work his ass out every day and deny himself of some little comfort just to provide for d family, and there s this other woman in my neighbourhood who will not cook because theres no match box in d house and cant risk her dime to buy one,she would rather wait for her husband to get back frm work to get money to buy a match stick. Even when she has a thrivin bussiness and her husband spent 100s of thousands to start it for her, then i realised that most relationships are in a maga mode

If the transportation is not eating into both of you salary, why not?

It will give both of you a good foundation to manage life and your finances too. Mind you, waiting for salary increase or better job offer could tale years. It's better to face it now and start adjusting than waiting for when things will be better.

My opinion though.

(1) I am not living in V/I and neither am i living in lagos, Abuja or P/H.
(2) Yes i am a graduate of Physics. I graduated in 2007. I have been working for 7 years in a bank. I am 36. I use a honda accord 2007 model and i am slmost through with my personal house.
I am experienced enough to know that u do not go into a venture(marriage in this cade) based on mere hope alone that things would be better. It is dangerous. Life is full of unforseen circumstances and u must plan for them. Saying some folks earn about N50k and send their wards to private schools is not a right argument. If they fo not have a legitimate business by the side which fetches them goid income then they are probably stealing.....My take
