Its No News That there has been an outbreak of Meningistis in the country. This has affected 16 states of the federation in Nigeria ( read Here ). The Federal Ministry of Health and the National Centre for Disease control have taken Proactive measures to ensure this Outbreak is well controlled and that the public is well senstized and proactive.
Vaccination against the Strain C of the virus is to begin Today being wednesday the 5th of April 2017. This is according to the The National Centre for Disease Control in Nigeria (NCDC)

The Vaccine Basics


There are meningococcal vaccines that help protect against five types (serogroups) of meningococcus bacteria, including the three types most common in the United States (serogroups B, C, and Y). Meningococcal vaccines cannot prevent all cases of the disease, but they do protect many people who might become sick if they didn't get vaccinated.

For Children

Meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY or Hib-MenCY-TT) is recommended for children 2 months through 10 years old who are at increased risk for meningococcal disease.

Children may be at increased risk due to certain medical conditions, because they are traveling to a country with high rates of meningococcal disease, or because of an outbreak in their community. Booster doses may be recommended if your child remains at increased risk.

Talk to your child’s health care provider for more information.

For Preteens/Teens

Quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY) is routinely recommended for all 11 through 18 year olds. The first dose should be given
