slimthugchimee2:This is from the Nigerian Army. You can google it up for a link. "The infantry patrol vehicle (IPV) with off-road mobility and a crew of three was one of the star attractions at the summit. Weighing 650kg and powered by 150-200 Horse Power Engine, the IPV has a 130 kilometre per hour capacity. It provides force multiplier and the required flexibility to undertake all tasks across the entire spectrum of military operations, including range fighting, fast action mission, urban and border patrols. The IPV is fitted with two machine guns and have been deployed in all the theatres of operation." Apart from the photos in the previous page, you can also add these.

Here, also these. I'm not close to my laptop, so blur out the ones with obvious faces showing. I've so far spotted 4 units. 1 Like

I noticed how product developers in Nigeria don't put much thought into product branding, that's everything from proper photography (or commercial renders) to product websites. Product branding (presentation) is actually more value than the product itself. 1 Like |

GreenandGold: That's because the concept is still relatively new. The industry in RSA dates back to World War II, so there has been enough time for that industry to evolve. Although Defence manufacturing in Nigeria dates back to the Civil War in 1960's and subsequent producton in the 70s and 80s, we have not had a seamless development. The industry in Nigeria is only just re-inventing itself with the launch of the Igirigi APC in 2013. There should be better presentation when the Proforce MRAP is launched for the Nigerian Army. 2 Likes |

Henry240: Although I was referring to single product branding not the whole military industry. eg Nigerian musicians go all-out on personal branding, but the same effort is not placed on "made in Nigeria" hardware. |

I visited Eagle Square today to witness the untapped potential in Nigerians ranging from mouth gapping Primary School projects to more sophisticated projects such as 3D Printers, cars, tractors, agricultural equipment, aeroponics to mention a few. In fact, I saw a satellite rocket launcher. Most importantly, I interacted with Gulma Drone pilots and they educated me more about this elusive drone. In the end, I had to give them thumbs up for a job well done. 6 Likes

GreenandGold: It is the same issue faced across the Nigerian industry, hence the generalisation seems more apt. The Nigerian defence industry is still small, although some of the private companies and government agencies have seen a decent measure of success, it is still quite minuscule. On the comparison, you cannot compare a private sector, money driven, based in Lagos entertainment industry to a mainly public sector, Kaduna based, mainly government funded.... not even government funded, arm of military service funded industry. They are light years apart. Branding can only change in Nigeria's defence industry when private money begins to flow in huge numbers into that sector. |

Henry240:Lol, seriously I know I could have done better but my smart phone recently pack up so I had to ask strangers to take the pics and send it to me through bluetooth. I may still go there on Friday, I will try and get more and better pics. I asked one of the pilot whether the drone could fly at night and he said it could. He added that the drone has infrared camera. He told me every part of the drone was locally built (except the piston engine) and I actually saw the video of its making from scratch. Come see as old men just they ask whether truly the drone can fly without pilot inside even after watching video of it flying. I am sure some of them went home believing they are lying. 2 Likes |

Xbee007: Yes, you should have done better, no question about it. Please, do much, much better when you go on friday. It's also apparent that you went there and was star-struck, so, I'll help you with a couple questions you should ask them. After asking the questions they would know you're not your "average joe". |

Xbee007: Simply ask them the following ; - If the service is thinking about going for a catapult launched model, seeing that the Gulma can only launch from a paved road. Still press on th catapult version even if the Ichoku is brought up. - They'll probably bring up the Ichoku UAV, the hand-launched version, you ask why there are delays with this one coming on-stream, citing the Nigerian army DJI drones as example why you think the Ichoku would be better commercially successful - Ask whether the Gulma can send cordinates in real-time to the artillery teams on the ground or Nigerian Air Force fighters. - Ask if the Air Force plans to sell the Gulma to other customers - Ask if the NAF has any plans to develop a proper MALE UAV like the CH-3, and what's the timeline. - Ask about the plans the NAF has on converting the Air Beetle into UAVs. How that project is going. - You can also ask about the Amebo drones. 2 Likes |

Air War College To Permanently Remain In Makurdi – Chief Of Air Staff The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar has announced that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Air War College (AWC) in Makurdi will no longer be relocated to Abuja. Air Marshal Sadique disclosed this on Tuesday April 4, 2017, during a courtesy visit to the Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom at the Government House in Makurdi. According to him, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) will continue to support the Government of Benue State in the area of security while Makurdi will remain the permanent location of the College. It will be recalled that the AWC was inaugurated on 18 November 2016 in line with the CAS vision to reposition NAF into a highly professional and disciplined force through capacity building initiatives for efficient, effective and timely employment of air power in response to Nigeria’s security imperatives. Following the administrative orders establishing the College, students became apprehensive that the College was going to be moved to Abuja. The clarification therefore reassured the people that the NAF would continue to improve the facilities in the College and its environment. Governor Ortom commended the contributions of the NAF in the on-going fight against Boko Haram terrorists in the North East noting that NAF air intervention in the North East saved the country from possible takeover of communities by the terrorists. The Governor appreciated the leadership commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari for providing all necessary support to the Air Force and in deed the Armed Forces to enable them win the war against terrorists and other criminalities in the country. He thanked the NAF for making some of its facilities available to the people of Benue State and noted that “the NAF is adding significant value to the State in the areas of education and security”. The CAS was in Makurdi to inspect ongoing projects at NAF Base 2 Likes
