Rohr Rules Out Summer Holidays For Iheanacho, Iwobi, Ndidi Until After South Africa Game



Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has revealed that he plans to invite fresh young players to a training camp in France, ahead of the national team’s African Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa in June.


The training camp will start next month, meaning the Super Eagles stars will not be allowed to proceed on holidays at the end of season in most European countries.


“We have a programme to work together as a team. We have arranged for camping in France and we have been invited for some friendly games, although it is not FIFA window.


“We have some young players who we need to look at and also some of them that have finished their season in Europe,” Rohr told New Telegraph.


The Super Eagles, after winning the 2013 AFCON, failed to qualify for the 2015 and 2017 editions but Rohr is optimistic of his wards will make the cut in 2019.


“They need to work hard, we have two and half weeks to prepare for South Africa after which we will play another friendly game to accommodate some other players that will be ending their season in June, especially the players playing in China.”


Rohr is back in Nigeria and was at the Agege Township Stadium on Wednesday to watch a league game between AS Racine and Warri Wolves.

Super Eagles hopeful Noah Bazee missed an opportunity to display his wares to representatives of EFL Championship side Aston Villa last Saturday.


Scouts in Attendance via Twitter has claimed that Aston Villa director of football Steve Round and scout Tony Coton were believed to have watched the 2 Bundesliga match between Hannover and Union Berlin.


Hannover striker Bazee was not considered for the game after worsening his knee injury while training with the Super Eagles in London, and also missed the following game against Nürnberg.


Speculation is rife that the 20-year-old may depart the Lower Saxony club in the summer as he has yet to sign the new contract that he has been offered.

Serie A side Torino are presently running the rule on two talented Nigerian teen spotted by scouts of the team during the recently concluded Viareggio Tournament in Italy.


The duo of Ikechukwu Nwafor and Charles Okwara were spotted by scouts of the club while turning out for their Nigerian side Garden City Panthers of Port Hacourt.


Already they have started training with the Primavera side of the Serie A side, that presently has former Super Eagles ace Joel Obi on their books.


They are both offensive midfielders with lots of potentials, especially when it comes to making use of the ball and covering grounds.


Torino will offer the duo professional contracts, if they impressed the handlers of the team during a trial that is suppose to last at least one month.

Wilfred Ndidi has emphatically stated his commitment to Leicester City in denying a report linking him to Manchester United.

A Nigerian report had cited a person claiming to be Ndidi's agent as saying the 20-year-old would be open to a move if Jose Mourinho came calling.

But after the story spread to English news outlets, Ndidi said he did not know the purported agent, writing on Twitter:

The Mirror had reported earlier this week that United as well as Arsenal could be in line to lure Ndidi away from Leicester.

The Nigeria international signed for the Foxes in January from Belgian side Genk, and his performances have played a part in their rise up the Premier League table to mid-table safety.

He could be a fit for Mourinho's side with 35-year-old Michael Carrick nearing the twilight of his career, but for now he's left little doubt about his place with Leicester.

Ndidi has the support of his manager as well, with Craig Shakespeare this week praising Leicester's recruitment department for landing the midfielder for a reported £17 million.

"We did a lot of homework on him and I think we were one of the first clubs, if not the first, to show an interest in him," Shakespeare said. "I think he, and his family and agent, remembered that so we were in the driving seat. When other clubs came in for him he remembered the way we went about it first. He had other options.

"From what you're seeing so far, we've got a good player on our hands."

I have known Tega for quite some time time he has done exceptionally well in the championship. But he isn't physically imposing like Anichebe.

ideye is one player that will allow whoever he is the AM or SS to have a free run upront and his work rate is very impressive.... perfectly used to the dynamics of Africa football
