Brother I am not sure about the authenticity of the hadith you Quoted, however there are other hadiths encouraging the acquisition of Knowledge. You can even use the first verse of the Qur'an revealed to buttress your point: Iqraa ..... Qur'an 96:1 which is a clear commandment to read or to recite.
