On August 6, 2016, a faction of Ijaw leaders held a Congress where they elected Alabotubo Charles Harry as the President of the Ijaw National Congress. The election of Alabotubo Harry came just 18 months after Alabo (Barrister) Boma Obuoforibo was elected and sworn in as President of the Ijaw apex body. While Barr. Obuoforibo led leadership branded the Harry group as "impostors and confutionists" that is determined to create division in the Ijaw nation and Niger Delta as a whole,  the Harry group branded them as illegitimate and expired.  As at today, the case is still in court at the expense of the collective desire of Ijaw people worldwide. 


While the Ijaw nation is concerned about the leadership problem in INC, the youth wing, Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide, the wing seen as bacon of hope for the Ijaw struggle only yesterday made her own leadership crisis official. 


Yesterday, a group of Ijaw youths converged in Okrika (my hometown) to elect new leadership of IYC, which produced  Barrister Oweilaemi Pereotubo as the new President of the body. The Convention was held under the Jeremiah Owoupele led Electoral Committee that was inaugurated in Toru- Ebeni, Bayelsa state during a parallel Convention. Whereas, only last month, specifically March 2, Comrade Eric Omare, the immediate past spokesman of the body was elected President of the body by a faction loyal to outgone President Udengs Eradiri in Burutu, Delta state.


With this development, it means that both the apex body of the Ijaw nation and the Youth wing are grounded as there is no way any group can progress when there exist factions and leadership crises. Two different Executives parading as authentic leaders of INC,  two different Executives Now parading as real leaders of IYC,  how do Ijaw nation benefit? 


This development is highly unfortunate and a setback on the collective struggle of the Ijaw nation and the Niger Delta region.  Ijaw leaders, especially Governor Seriake Dickson, must wade into the matter and end the leadership crises in both organisation.  


We must appeal to our fathers in INC and our Youth leaders in IYC to sheath their swords and embrace reconciliation in the interest of Ijaw nation. Posterity will never be kind to our generation if we, at the expense of the Ijaw nation allow the crises to degenerate into a situation that will further polarise both organisations and our aspiration for emancipation.


As Ijaws, we have no other group or ethnic nation that we can call our own other than what the Almighty in his wisdom has made us. We must salvage INC and IYC.

Neither FULANI nor the FG has hand in this. It is purely an internal matter driven by some interests within the Ijaw nation and Niger Delta region, and of course, there could be political undertone.

Its no wild claim bro. Ijaws are around 12-15million in population.

So unfortunate!

Just look at who's talking about division in Ijaw land. This was someone whom for 4 years wrote series of articles attacking an Ijaw son Dr Goodluck Jonathan until his Government collapsed.

TonyeBarcanista did not hold anything back in his criticism against GEJ's Govt. He joined the North and South West to call an Ijaw son clueless, El-dullardin and whatnot. I can remember vividly an article written by TonyeBarcanista in 2013, that article did not only portray GEJ as a clueless President, it went further to portray him as one who wakes up in the morning, drinks Ogogoro until he passes out and is rendered incapacitated for the rest of the day. There was nothing TonyeBarcanista didn't do to bring GEJ's Government down including telling lies, all for the amusement and cheers of the North and SW.

Now he's here talking about division in Ijaw land. Oga oo, there's no division in Ijaw land, it is people like you (the saboteurs) that the good people of Ijaw land should be wary of. Saboteurs like you should not be allowed near any position of authority in Ijaw land. We haven't forgotten who you are and the role you played in the past. You can change your monika all you want but the Internet never forgets.
