We are talking about the inability of the SAAF to raise any decent number of Gripen pilots in 18 years.

Your Air Force constantly has to beg SAA for pilots.

The number of planes was as a result of the fact the SAAF Gripens were mothballed before a public out cry.

Your flight time is low, the force still finds it difficult to buy fuel for an aircraft that is supposedly cheap to fly.

The SAAF us a complete embarrassment.

No, Air Forces around the world do not prefer the Gripen. Only Sweden the maker and South-Africa, a very unfortunate buyer has the jet in any meaningful numbers.

The Gripen should not cost above 25 million, it is simply an overpriced piece of western kit, which happens to compete in a light category were there are no Western alternatives.

Fact, if the Gripen was Russian it would go for 10 - 15 million, same price range as the Yak-130.

I never said the Gripen is a capable aircraft.

A Saudi company, a company that does not represent the Saudi government or interests. Any company with favourable terms is free to do business in Nigeria. Don't blame the Saudis for taking advantage of that.

Like I've multiple times, NAF carries out all PDM in Nigeria by itself, including comprehensive overhauls.

Thai Air Force has ordered 12 Gripens, the service only has 7 in service.

Brazilian Gripens are the E/F variants

Hungary and Czech Gripens are loaned not bought.

Like I said, only an unfortunate SAAF fly them in any huge numbers.

Thailand buys purely western aircrafts, there is only one aircrafts of Russian origin in Thai service.

With the JF-17 we are getting a solid aircraft comparable to the F-16 block 52. A fighter that provides the bang for the buck. We couldn't have made a better cost effective choice.

I can assure you, we won't spend 18 years training 9 pilots.

What I know, not think is the fact that the SAAF is a completely incompetent force that cannot fly it's aircrafts, cannot fuel it's aircrafts, cannot maintain them, has low flying hours, apart from the VIP squadron and constantly has to beg a commercial airliner for pilots. These are facts!


SAAF doesn't have more than 9 Gripen pilots, we all know this. The DA's former shadow minister, exposed the SAAF for the fraud it is.


If the plane is so easy to fly, why is the SAAF struggling to get pilots to fly them? The country lacks the men to fly the world's simplest jet!! Utterly ridiculous and pathetic.

Line maintenance, which is often completed within a short period of time and does not require specialized equipment, training or facilities, can be performed either on the flight line or on-site at a customer’s premises.

Intermediate maintenance is more often performed at a maintenance center due to the higher level of tools, equipment and training required.

Heavy maintenance and major inspections on any Lockheed Martin C-130 can only be performed either in-house at Lockheed Martin Authorized C-130 Hercules Service Centers or directly at the operator’s facilities.

The Lockheed Martin global network of Authorized C-130 Hercules Service Centers is located in close proximity to customer facilities to perform these services.

Now tell me, why do you need a Saudi company to perform what every other respectable air force does in-house?
