Investigation is the key because people are bound to tell lies during direct questioning,
conduct a traditional vetting on him which is simple and possible also kudos to organisations that vetts spouses before approving the marriage. Don't blame the women alone parents especially mothers are much responsible for these mistakes due to greed, unhealthy competition among their peers, co wives, families and ignorance, which also boils down to illiteracy toi
Could you please elaborate on what you mean by traditional vetting? Like some voodoo type of stuff?

I don't think you know how difficult it is to collect debt in US. You cannot arbitrarily put a lien on someone's primary residence. Court judgement? Goodluck collecting. Collection Agencies? Send a "Cease and Desist" letter. If you want be an A-hole, send in a Writ of Quo Warranto. They will finally give up. Credit history is the only thing at stake.

Ok. Now it's apperant how it works in both climes.

You're almost right except for the debt part. You don't have to have debt or service them to build up a superb credit profile. I run my bills through my credit cards then pay it off by the due date. I let a small amount report to the credit bureau though and then pay it off before incurring interest charges. That way, I don't have CC debt but I have some utilization reporting every month. Max of 15%.

Lemme get something here dear, how is having some debt on one's credit card reflective of financial capability? What if someone decides to pay for everything he/she needs cash and still has savings? That's not enough proof?

Big lie, if they cant live with their husbands who is taking care of them. Whose house are they living in, you just want to put salt and pepper into this threadshocked

Of course they live separately without the oyinbo wife knowing. Abroad, nobody 'takes care' of you. Everybody works to pay their bills. You both contribute finances. There is no housewife here. Even my former flatmate still married to a German woman went home to marry and I knew when he was making plans to bring in his naija wife. And the strategy for her to stay elsewhere and claim benefits.
What lie? Don't be silly. If you're ignorant of something own up to it and stop passing judgements on what you have absolutely no idea about.
There is a film Liz Benson acted in scenes were shot in Nigeria and abroad. She acted both as the mother of the man and the fiancée. She knew her son was married but they didn't as a family acknowledge the white woman. She then travelled and was living separately from her when she relocated. Its a film but the story is REAL. many people do it

Looks like one of those envious post by people fed up and trapped in a system they can't get out of. Everyone who owns a home in the western world had some sort of help from their banks or mortgage providers,if not, how can one afford to pay 300,000 pounds or even more for their home, unless you are a typical Nigerian who specialises in stealing and defrauding others. How do you explain your politicians and citizenry who buy palatial homes across the world with stolen public funds.
Yes, I agree with managing ones money so as to avoid falling into debt, but seriously, what the hell do I owe a Nigerian woman or any damn woman at that to explain my finances, job or social status in order to marry them.
Am sorry, but it sounds like someone abroad bleep the hell out of your woman, hence your captain save a ho topic just to sound relevant.

You are writing as if you are addressing responsible and god-fearing women, but no! You are a addressing a section of low-minded, ignorant, lazy and weak Nigerian women who are so empty and worldly to think that abroad is synonymous with paradise on earth. None of them cares if you sold your kidney or killed white men and women, steal your way into reaches or even peddle drugs to make money, as long as you can buy them iPhone and stuff and allow them fool themselves of Facebook, Instagram and all those places, then you are a boo for life. Madam, we are saying the same thing. I have total of 5 credit cards with limit of approximately $100k. My monthly utilization hasn't been up to $3k except if I buy airline tickets which I balance at the end of every cycle.

When I wanted to buy a home, I had a credit limit of only about $15k which impacted a little negatively on my mortgage approval.

All I am saying is how much limit does a man have? If he has utilized up to 50% of what he has, then there's a problem.

So using the credit card more and being able to pay on time, increasing your limit? And having more limit increases your ability to get say mortgage approval for instance?

Good point raised. Take the credit card to build your credit history (don't go on a spending spree largess). Pay your credit card balance leaving very low manageable debt.
Once you get the mortgage, pay off balance and cancel credit card.
That is just it one need it, but for important things like house, no electronics and unnecessary things, i was given one recently at a popular electronic store but i objected, simply because i can pay cash. For instance that day i went to buy a laptop which was 944 plus tax, the suprise was that they beg me to put down payment of 500dollars out of 944 dollars, which i objected because i have my cash, an in that same place a family payed for down payment. So it all depend on individuals, because it still needed in the long run.

So, if you are not owing, you are not creditworthy abroad?
It's depends on the definition of 'abroad'. Some countries have already seen the big picture, and don't tolerate Visa and Mastercard controlling the lives of their populace. However, all western countries see those that don't owe as potential preys. If they don't owe, they are seen as not being credit worthy and can't do certain things.

If one can be financially disciplined, it's fine. But most people think they are/would be financially disciplined, till the credit card debt overtakes them.....

Yes. It's hard to get credit approval for mortgage without having a verifiable credit history. Credit cards help build the credit history.
However, some folks just bypass the whole process, avoiding banks and mortgages by paying cash for their home. Cash is always king if you have it like that.

Everything I'm about to write down here is based on a family feud currently going on between a young man and his new wife here.

This young man has no steady job, lives a flamboyant life and post all kind of pictures on social media where he met the wife. I'm pained because the wife in question happens to be my town's girl and after hearing her side of the story, I was mad at her. Well, this is not the topic for today but let me give our sisters some advice here.
These are questions to ask before someone brings you here to suffer unnecessarily;

WHAT DO YOU DO ABROAD? Let him tell you where he works and possibly show you his work ID. If he tells you he's a biz man, watch him closely, that could be a red flag. I know there are genuine bizmen but most unserious and unemployable guys abroad pose as bizmen.

WHAT'S YOUR DEBT PROFILE? Generally in America, if you don't have some debts especially credit cards, you don't qualify for certain things but that doesn't mean one should live on credit.

IS THAT YOUR FLASHY CAR OWNED OR FINANCED? This may lead to you driving today and trekking tomorrow. Without a steady job, car financing coys may take back their car anytime there's a default in payment.

DO YOU LIVE ALONE? This is self explanatory.

WHAT'S YOUR TOTAL SAVINGS AMOUNT? I know this sounds odd but try to get an extimate by calculating the amount he saves monthly. Ask him jokingly if he saves for his future family. He should be more family oriented than friends oriented. "Too much sending my guys money at home" is a no no.

Lastly, if he doesn't personally come down for your wedding except with a very cogent reason maybe life threatening, he probably isn't a legal resident ie no green card or citizenship. In this case, you may likely stay longer in Nigeria until he gets his papers before you join him. Refuse such union because sometimes, he may be tangled with a lady here already for papers, a union he may not easily come out from.

If ladies do this simple research before accepting marriage proposals from obodo oyibo husbands, rate of domestic violence among Nigerians in the States will be at its minimum.

Yankee marriage is favourable to ladies who their husbands already made the ground running. They come to consolidate on their husband's achievements and prosper it more.

you are right bro... with what's happening these days, every girl needs to be wise. Gone are the days dat 'Abroad bobo' was the in or the reigning thing. its even better to marry a home based comfortable guy that will give you peace of mind than abroad bobo that will always give u headaches nd heartaches...

Yea been Prudent in spending is the watchword, but no matter how one need the credit card let say for house buying or can you just pay cash for 400,000 dollar down for a house, unless you are one of those politicians who stole peoples wealth.

So abroad bobo is a curse right, because am abroad so ladies i ask out should reject me, that premise is for those living fake life, whereas if you are presently living in any of this western countries i no the issue of credit history would not be a strange topic . It is needed no matter how, but i do not support using it for unnecessary spending that may damage one credit score or bankrupcy. So i would not agree with your analysis of abroad bobo my sister.

Our politicians don't do mortgage. They just present a debit card and swipe the whole $400,000

That is my point exactly, for any person who is not a naija politician to buy the house, you still need the credit, but what i dont understand is according to the op for we living in foreign countries , to date a lady in naija we must tell them all our finances, how is that possible with the manner of girls in that country, God forbid bad thing.

Lots of them are very comfortable with the arrangement these days. It was in the past they didn't know what they were getting into, not now. If you think a good percentage of them are LONELY _you better wake up, this is 2017...

That one has been in existence before the professional vetting, more like elicitation like making enquiry about the person from family and friends without creating an impression that you are trying to pick an information them. Also with the aid of goggle and other website and social media you can visit public dossiers especially abroad to get information about someone including his address, crime records and so on, with Facebook you can go through his friends and his activities, check his friends, their profiles and also concentrate on their comments, from there you can deduce the type of associate he has, their level of activities, you can also create a pseudo account just to track his activities especially the ones you share mutual friends with.

Exactly. Invest in 401K and retirement. Depending on the terms of the 401K, you can withdraw or loan from it once a year. If you're like me, invest in 401K and also have a separate savings account that is not tied to terms like a 401K
