So uhmmmmm..... **swallows hard** If it is the European U-21... shouldn't we be worried? coz Aina may give in.... or what do you think?

I am not a big fan of players saying they will play for us after they play for another country. Is it that they want to see how the English jersey fits before making up their mind? To me if he wasn't sure he should have never come to our camp. That said U21 is a much tougher competition and it very well a big step to the national team, I think he might just reconsider.

BRAVEHEART WILFRED NDIDI ALREADY A LEADER FOR LEICESTER CITY

The Nigeria international kept his head in Madrid while all around him in blue seemed hopelessly second-rate
COMMENT By Solace Chukwu

For all that the constant comparisons between N’Golo Kante
and Wilfred Ndidi are lazy and presumptuous, there is one trait they both share that the numbers can only cover in a limited way.

At every turn, as the level goes higher, they blend right in.

The scene is the quarter final first leg of the Uefa Champions League, and the opposition is Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon, that noisome bear pit over which Diego Simeone presides. Leicester City are already in dizzyingly unfamiliar territory, and it tells: as their ears congest and their balance goes, it is only the gangly Ndidi who seems sure of foot.

The irony though is that, for all that the Foxes were outfoxed, they are still very much in the tie. Antoine Griezmann’s penalty gives Atletico a slim advantage to take to the King Power next week, but it could have been so much worse were it not for Leicester’s prize greyhound.

Only Danny Drinkwater completed more passes, and that only marginally – 34 to Ndidi’s 33.

The Nigeria international however played fewer passes, and more impressively did a better job of getting a beleaguered Leicester up the pitch with accurate long balls: two of three found their target, while his midfield partner hit the mark once in five attempts.

Leicester’s youngest player was also their best on the night: hardly ideal for a team with designs on progression.

Under Craig Shakespeare, they have returned to the direct attacking into the channels that served them so well in their title-winning season. Yet, it was always going to be a struggle to face this Atletico side: no team left in the Champions League is as good at denying that space, or at preventing one-on-ones against the centre-back in open ground.

Jamie Vardy, a man reborn since Claudio Ranieri’s departure, was back to his ineffectual worst – he completed one pass the entire evening, and indeed only touched the ball 11 times in the Spanish capital.

Los Colchoneros are an old hand at this business of closing off space, and to say they were Leicester before even Leicester were flatters the Foxes a little, but you get the point.

They defend compactly and narrowly, denying access through the middle of the pitch and forcing opponents wide, before shutting them down.

It was a bit like looking in a mirror on half-way, only the team in blue looked the pale imitation, the blurred reflection.

It is not a stretch though to state that Ndidi looked the only player who could have stepped through the glass, emerged on the red and white side of the divide and not immediately appeared out of place. Twelve ball recoveries all across his defensive half was testament to his mobility and all-action approach, even as the rest of the Leicester side seemed to freeze in the floodlit Calderon.

Is Ndidi the reason the reigning English champions are still in this? Perhaps. That and some wayward finishing (looking at you, Fernando Torres).

However, unlike in the previous round against Sevilla when they were dominated mightily but managed an away goal, the Foxes do not appear to have their tails up.

Robert Huth is suspended for the home leg, and Yohane Benalouane looked less than sturdy anyway. If captain Wes Morgan does not return for the home leg, it may be that Leicester are forced to turn to an all-African centre-back pairing in Benalouane and Daniel Amartey.

If so, the portents are grim.

Not to be uncharitable, but Amartey has looked pretty much the opposite of Ndidi since his summer arrival: not so much bad outright as just unfit for purpose, somehow worse because he is not entirely awful enough to discard.

His outings with Leicester have also mostly come in defensive midfield, and his inability to convince there led directly to the acquisition of Ndidi from Genk. Being pressed into service at centre-back (albeit he plays there for Ghana, to mixed reviews) in the quarter final of the Champions League, against an Atletico side that has contested two of the last three finals, would be quite the test.

Atletico will be licking their lips then, and for all that miracles happen, Leicester may find this a bridge too far, even at home.

The fairytale appears all but over, and while the ending may not be a happy one, there is some relief in the East Midlands:
the shoe fits Ndidi, and however it pans out next week, you can be sure the 20-year-old will not be cowed by the occasion.

I think we should take the owngoalnigeria.com report with a pinch of salt. The coach has stated that Aina was willing to play for us. So we wait and see.

Most of their reports are made up, these days.

Celtic Loanee Efe Named Top Dog In The Ladbrokes Championship For March

Nigeria international Efe Ambrose has picked up the Ladbrokes Championship Player of the Month for March on the back of his impressive performances for Hibernian.

Last month, the central defender started league games against St. Mirren, Dundee United, Dumbarton, Falkirk FC and Morton, and logged 450 minutes.

Ambrose opened his goalscoring account for the season as Hibs beat Falkirk 2-1, scoring with a header in the second half.
The Celtic loanee was named Man of the Match in games against Dundee United, Dumbarton and Falkirk.

His contract with the Scottish champions runs out at the end of this season and won't be extended.

Hardwork Will Earn Me Super Eagles Invitation - Odey

MFM FC striker, Stephen Odey believes with hardwork and total commitment to his game, he will soon earn call-up to the Super Eagles.

Despite not getting an invitation from the technical crew of the Super Eagles for the international friendly game against Senegal in London, where the encounter ended 1-1, the Nigeria Professional Football League top scorer with 13 goals has become a house hold name for the Lagos based club.

He told Soccernet.com.ng at the Agege Stadium after the team's 3-0 whitewashing of El Kanemi Warriors in a week 18 of the NPFL fixture on Sunday that he's focused on working hard to earn a call up to the Super Eagles.

"I am not basically worried that I have not been invited into the senior national team. The truth is, I am so delighted that the technical adviser of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr was at the stands to watch me and the rest of the NPFL stars play today (Sunday). It's a big relief for me regardless of the fact that I fail to score a goal but at least I made my presence felt in the team, of which I know the coach too will be impressed with my performance," Odey told Soccernet.com.ng

"What is paramount for me now is to work harder and remain committed to my game because that's the only way I can achieve my purpose to play in the senior national team. I am not in a rush even though it's my wish the don the green and white colours of the Super Eagles. However, with time I will be part of them considering the fact that the CHAN qualifying campaign will kick-start soon," he said.

Those boys were very smart, there was no other way for them to get paid. Imama never lied, i saw this team before he came in they were a wreck, even their jersey was a mess. He did manage to patch them up but when a whole team takes a 50% pay cut and go on to win the league u would expect at least 4 or 5 of them to get a better contract. Please look at Nwobodo and tell me he looks like a kid that is on top of the world. The club has failed the people of Enugu not Imama. To me they should start with the GM Christian Chukwu because he inherited the champions of the league and now they are last.

That is the way government is run in Nigeria. We need private investment in clubs. The government owned clubs should be sold to people willing to invest. All these people hiding money in apartments should find good use for the money.

If we can be talking about someone who couldn't cut it in the Turkish league and ends up in the Bosnian league and we are calling him a future prospect.

Then why not a proven, tested and experienced professional at the highest levels. After all at what age did Maldini retire as a left back for Milan and Italy.

Why not Taiwo, considering we invited at least four players who were injured or just recovering from Injury and bench warmers in thier respective teams.
let's be sincere with ourselves... how old do u think is Taye taiwo?

I keep saying this clubs should be auctioned out of given to the corporate organisations the NFF duty should just be to regulate the league affairs...

calling for joint running of these clubs by corporate bodies and the government will not make headway... reason because of the corrupt nature of the government... which will discourage these organisations

For now I want him to play in Nigeria.

Performance test? He hasn't even done one.

He still dey play street football upandan.

You said he is very good I presumed that you would have compared him to some boys in his age group who are playing football in academies and or feeder teams. To have come to that conclusion.

In football 14 is not that young anymore. Seyi Ojo was bought from MK Dons for £1.8 million and so also was Raheem Sterling from QPR for £1 million both of them were 14 at the time.

Some EPL academies are starting at 4 years old.

Street football is good it will give him the flair, skill and technique from a personal level. However, more is needed.

Tammy is playing under 20 world Cup, this is not the time to be bringing up Nigerian allegiances.

Pinnick and Tammy's dad are close friends so there is a good chance, he will play for us.

Nigeria Vs South Africa : Arsenal Chuba Akpom In, China Based Odion Ighalo Out Of AFCON 2019 Qualifiers Tie

According to scoops gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com editorial crew, coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has already drawn out names of players who are most likely going to be in the Super Eagles squad for the AFCON 2019 qualifiers tie against South Africa.

We gathered while there are doubts over Ola Aina making the squad as he is yet to fully commit himself to the Super Eagles of Nigeria, his fellow England youth international Chuba Akpom is set to be included in the squad.

Akpom’s inclusion will most likely come at the expense of Chanchung Yatai of China forward Odion Ighalo who has failed to justify his big money move to China from Watford , as he is yet to find the back of the net for his new side in four games.

Ighalo is on a goal drought which stretches back to his time at Watford, as his last goal came on the 10th of September 2016 where he found the back of the net in a 4-2 win for Watford over West Ham.

Although Akpom hasn’t fared any better with no goal in the 8 games he has played for his loan side Brighton & Hove Albion, Rohr views the 21 year old as a future prospect who could end up as one of the leaders of the team than Ighalo whose time with the team is coming to an end.

I really have no idea how old Taiwo really is. However, the question is not pertinent. What we should be asking what kind of performances is he able to put in top quality or mediocre.

I remember Taribo West, has there been an older player that played at such a high level for Nigeria. I mean this guy must have been 40+ when he was running down the right wing faster than teenagers amazingly playing for Partizan Belgrade. He was still putting in top performances amazingly.

Now look at Obagoal performance in the MLS and also in the Chinese league, consistent performance.

Yakubu is now taking the biscuit, he must be close to 50 and he cannot perform at all. The issue is performance not age.

But consider not the age but the current performance. For goodness sake how old is Ibrahimovic Yet top goal scorer for United and among top goal scorers in the EPL.

Ndidi is performing wonders but we also know he failed an MRI scan. However it is irrelevant whether he is 19 or 25 he is performing.

If Fortune Chukwudi had not been exposed he would probably be playing in Europe and we don't know how far he could have gone.

If we are to examine all our players who will come away unscathed on this issue of age cheating the majority or a small minority.

So let's forget age. I was talking to a Nigerian international some years ago. Who was complaining to me about boys who he had played with before he left Nigeria. Only to see these players reinvent themselves as young players and come into the SE set up.

Picture Confirmation Of Pool Result – West Brom Fans Vote For Man City Iheanacho To Be Their First Summer Signing

Fans of English Premiership side West Bromwich Albion have urged manager Tony Pulis to make a bid for Manchester City Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho, who could depart the Etihad outfit in the summer.

Iheanacho has found games hard to come by since the arrival of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus in January , and he could be leave the team in search of regular games when the transfer window opens in the summer.

West Brom are on the look out for a forward in the summer transfer window following the departure of Saido Berahino to Stoke City in January, and fans of the team conducted a poll on if Iheanacho should be signed by the manager in the summer.

The pool which was conducted on Twitter saw 82% of the fans voting for Iheanacho to be signed, while 8 % said no to his signing. 12% of the fans were however indecisive over his coming to the team will benefit them.

Chelsea Legend – Leicester City Ndidi Is Playing At Half His Potential

Former Chelsea ace Celestine Babayaro says Wilfred Ndidi is yet to reach his full potential despite a whirlwind start to his career in England with Leicester City following his transfer from Genk of Belgium in January.

Ndidi has earned praises for his performances since joining the foxes for a fee in the region of 16 million pounds, but Babayaro believes Ndidi has more to offer the team when he finally settles down to life in the English Premier League.”

Some people will think he is playing his best football at the moment but to me , there’s more to his game, and in a not too distant future the world will get to see his true potential “, Babayaro told Owngoalnigeria.com”

When you watch Ndidi play, you clearly feel there’s something inside him that is yet to come out. It will come out soon because he is working really hard. He worked his way to the top in just 18 months.

A regular in the team of the champions of England at the age of 20 and just two years as a professional footballer, he will definitely get better”.

17 Goals Nigerian Striker Onyekuru Linked With Liverpool & Sevilla Confesses – I Have Offers From Spain, England And Germany

Hot in demand Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru who has been linked with a move to a host of English Premier League clubs says he has been contacted by teams from England, Spain and Germany.

19 year old Onyekuru has taken the Belgium League by storm this season which is his debut season in the top flight league in Belgium with 17 goals and 6 assists despite playing wide on the left side of the attack of his team.

Bournemouth, Southampton and Liverpool are among the teams linked with a move for him in the summer with Scottish champions Celtic who failed to sign him in January still interested in him, while in Germany Borussia Monchengladbach are reportedly on his trail , same as Spanish La-Liga side Sevilla.

Second Highest Paid Nigerian Player Poised To Make First Appearance Of The Season Against Best Paid

Former Inter Milan wonderkid Obafemi Martins is poised to make his first appearance of the new season for Shanghai Shenhua in their Chinese Super League tie at Changchun Yatai.

Martins was not in the squad for the first four rounds but it is all but confirmed he'll be in action on Saturday at the Development Area Stadium, with another marque signing Carlos Tevez unavailable due to injury.

The Nigeria international was in the traveling party to the Jilin Province while the Argentinian stayed back in Shanghai to treat his leg muscle discomfort.

Martins, who is Nigeria's second best paidplayer, will face off with ex-Watford striker Odion Ighalo if he is handed playing time.

The veteran striker caught the eye in pre-season and the highlight of his performance was netting a hat-trick in Shanghai Shenhua's 5-0 rout of YSCC Yokohama.

I don't even read their trash. And I hope folks should quit posting that trash on this esteemed forum.

Like I said, what those "reporters" at own goal do is troll online forums and then stretch every piece of information they could find. And sometimes they add salt and pepper to it.

TheSuperNerd:

You should understand Owngoalnigeria by now.... they make lots of deductions and postulations when it comes to The Super Eagles list for games.... and most times they are spot on... at other times... they are wrong.

There is no official list flying around to say Ighalo has been dropped... this is them being deductive and analytically predictive again.

Omo, Inter and AC Milan are NO LONGER big teams. And neither of them has a big team since the past 10 years.

Are you sure you're not living in the past?

Humility017:

of a truth what is he going to bring to the SE?
we have young players of Nigeria heritage all littered across Europe and America...yet not given a chance...of a truth even players from the domestic league...will prove better. and now you clamouring for the inclusion of a player in his 30s playing no league better than the ignored young lads all because of his performance of yesteryears...

sir we're talking of winning the world cup come 2022 and using the Russia 2018 for exposure of these lads.....

We have younger players who have potential who seem to have promise. But that's what it really is just unproven promise.

We can reel off a list of players from U17 to U20 who won multiple accolades at youth level but didn't deliver. You can't be a mouse a non entity in your club and hope to become a lion in the SE. It's not likely to happen.

Lukman Haruna, Rabui Ibrahim, Chrisantus, Stanley Okoro, the list is endless of promising young players who never delivered the promise they showed to us.

There are many others currently young promising but not able to deliver. The SE is not a place to take a chance. You earn your chance not by supposition or the assumption of promised potential. But putting in good quality performances in your home club.

In reality some of these players have had thier chance to play in Europe but have not been able to deliver. Ndidi, Onyekuru and other have delivered that's why they are being courted by the creme de La creme of the top clubs in Europe.

But if you are in Portugal playing youth football sorry you are not ready for the SE. If you are playing in a moi moi league in Bosnia sorry you are not ready.

Currently Taiwo is playing in the Swiss league which is rated much higher than the Nordic leagues. I don't expect him to be invited just like that. But if he is putting in good quality performances then he should be considered. Currently, outside of Echiejile who is clearly better than him amongst our possible LB options.

I was impressed with his performance against Atleti-he really held is own in the midfield winning back balls with clean tackles despite the ref killing d game with unnecessary calls.

If he can keep his head iow, I see him displacing Onazi in the SE sooner than we thought. Though he needs to improve his ballholding abilities and try venturing forward to make good use of rocket leg.
