Talk2Bella: To me it still feels like the greatest magic trick ever to be played in this world . Let me start by saying I made a lot of mistakes in this relationship . I admit that . I did something which I am truly sorry for . My relationship was going well ... Had gotten engaged till my fiance's mother came to town . The first incident that left me dumbfounded and shocked was when she requested to see me the day before she left ...and to be honest I couldn't go to see her . She left town the next day ..we are talking and on the phone and she says ," why didn't you come to see me ... do you think I wanted to ask you for money ? " I was shocked for a second but played it cool be saying mummy no...I was just busy . It didn't sit well with me that she could be that forward while speaking to me but I shook it off . Little did I know what was coming next ... |

In the coming weeks whilst preparing for my introduction things weren't going well . I travelled to work outside the state and returned the same day . I had to switch my sims because I didn't want to be troubled by some people gave my fiancé and her mum my other number . Later that night ...her mother calls me . I see the call come in but I'm dead tired and did not want to react badly so I did not pick up . It rang three times or so and went to voice mail . She didn't follow the prompt and hung up . I got a text message from the network saying click 0 to hear voice message |

The next day I called again to discuss preparation for the introduction . Her : ... Why did you do this my son Me: do what Ma ? Her : why did you do this ? Me: Ma what happened ? Her : why did you give your phone to your friends to insult me . |
Re: Interesting Ways To Please A Nigerian Mother In Law. by Nobody: 4:27pm On Apr 20, 2017 |
Me: I'm thinking WTF ? Her : they abused me ...insulted me ,called me all sort of names and told me to never call you again . Me : mummy I don't understand ...you said what ? She repeats the whole thing again . First thing that comes to my mind is ...Ma its probably network and they must have connected you to someone else . She says no ...that it was my line she called and it was my friends she spoke to . |

The conversation started to get heated . I'm trying to explain that I did not do that ...she's trying to pin it on me . It comes to a point she says are you trying to call me a liar ? In my mind I can see that I'm being backed into a corner . Then she goes - instead of you to apologise and say you are sorry . Omo my mouth was just open ... |
Re: Interesting Ways To Please A Nigerian Mother In Law. by Nobody: 4:46pm On Apr 20, 2017 |
In my mind I know that if I apologise ,she would always have this over me . This would be her power . So I keep trying to defend myself . She says I'm arguing with her ... I reply no she's trying to force words down my throat . At this point its really getting heated . So I can't exactly remember but the line cuts perhaps I ran out of airtime but next thing GF calls me .... |

She starts screaming at me - you've brought drama again now ...why are you arguing with my mum . I tried to explain what happened but she's not having it ...at this point I know I'm 4ked . I mean I'm standing in the sun ...face palming myself thinking what and how did this happen . She hangs up . Then my own mother calls me |

My mum says ," ....what happened **** called me and said you are arguing with her mother over the phone " . I said mummy this is what happened . I repeat the story to her . She says hmmmm this strange but call **** mum back and apologise but not for something you didn't do but just to show respect . I said cool ... I call **** mum back up |

Her mum goes hello ... I start by saying sorry ...that this is all a misunderstanding . Still deny it tho . It feels like I am tiptoeing around a mindfield . She says she's no longer angry ... Remarks - is it because you are a ( insert my profession here ) that's why you like to argue ... We start talking about the ceremony ...but I could just tell that things weren't right ... Next my mum calls me |

My mum inquires as to the conversation with ***** mum ...I told her how it went . My mum said ... You know this is the first time your fiance has called me . I said enhhh ... Hold up ... My mum says yeah I call her and she hardly ever answers or returns the call ...but yeah this is the first time she has ever called me . I say no ...that's a lie ...it can't be ...its not the ***** that I know . Apparently my mum had kept this from me . |

At that point in time inexperience cost me that relationship . By reading you can already deduce my first mistake in this relationship . What happened next in the coming days was equally if not more strange ... |

tobianthony: wow me I'm speechless lol she probably is used to getting ways one thing I have learnt in this life is never to argue with an older person even if you're right they always see it as a sign of disrespect |

What if she is my mother is the wrong question to ask. Your mother in law is not your mother. She is like a mother to you. And my parents are not my husband's parents. They are like his parents. There are things I will do to my mum and there are ways I would react towards my mum that I will find it difficult to do a mother-in-law. 4 Likes |
