Its no longer news that the DO-NOT-DISTURB (DND) ISSUE has come to stay. What is news however, is that there are at least TWO (2) ways to solve this problem. This info is for bulksms website owners and endusers and recipients of bulksms.
As a reminder, the federal government, through the NCC had in July 2016 mandated all gsm operators to implement a policy called DO-NOT-DISTURB (DND). This policywas expected to give gsm consumers to option to ALLOW or STOP receiving unsolicited text messages.
Funny enough, bulksms belongs to this class of messages called unsolicited.
So what went wrong? A lot! After the policy was implemented, it was noticed that many subscribers , especially mtn subscribers were automatically blocked from receiving bulk messages, without the subscribers knowledge. Despite this, many subscribers are happy that at least finally, those unsolicited text messages have finally stopped.
If you are affected, you dont need to be too happy, in fact you should be very sad because you are missing a whole lot. You are missing those sms alert for job interviews, you can't receive One Time Password (OTP) for transactions and other smses for authentication purposes. So you should actually be sad and unblock yourself right away!

So, how do you know if you are affected?

If blocked how do you unblock yourself?

MTN: Text STOP to 2442, then after 5minutes, text ALLOW to 2442. Ignore all sms responses.
AIRTEL: Text STOP to 2442, then after 5minutes, text OUT to 2442
GLO: Text STOP to 2442, then after 5minutes, text CANCEL to 2442
ETISALAT: Text STOP to 2442, then after 5minutes, text START to 2442
You can text STATUS to 2442 to check your new status and confirm you have been unblocked.

So what about bulksms resellers and end users? How do they get their messages delivered to those that are having DND issues?
There is a solution now. Its simple. The normal bulksms no longer deliver to DND numbers as explained above. So what you should do is to look for bulksms websites that offer COOPERATE ROUTE. Cooperate route is the route mostly used by banks for alerts notification and is not affected by DND. Its a little more expensive than the normal route, but delivery is excellent when you have it. Some platforms offer it for as high as double the normal route cost.

A lot has changed about bulksms and you need to change your strategy.
Are you a bulksms reseller and you dont offer cooperate route services for delivery to DND numbers? The time to start is now!
Are you an end user still using the normal route? Your recipients are missing out without your knowledge, look for cooperate route now!
Are you a GSM subscriber? Check your DND status now, to ensure you dont miss the next sms invitation for that your dream job.

On your MTN line, simply dial this code *131*201#. You will receive a message saying You hace successfully activated data suspension... Congrats. The problem is solved now. Dial this code *131*200#. The settings will be reset and you'll be able to browse with your credit.
