What a pleasant surprise the Nigerian Air Force medical outreach team were at my parents home today as part of activities marking the Nigerian Air Force week. I'll post photos i took later on, as they seem to be too large for Nairaland.com. I'll have to re-size them. The Air Force provided free medical care to over 400 people, including free mosquito treated nets, free medical glasses, free medicine, everything free!! very beautiful from the Air Force. 10 Likes |

Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Nobody: 6:51pm On Apr 20, 2017 |
MikeCZA: impossible for them to get type 214 the same as israel , Israel has put officialy pressure on germany to cancel even the type 209 contract , knowing that the american harpoon is a component of this submarine USA also have its world in the contract , so it is good that they had the 209 with UGM-84L Harpoon Block II Encapsulated Missiles , for the kilo 636M I am not expert but I have read that the type 209 was better than the kilo 636 M in some aspects, (smallest , western systems... ) , + geopolitics ! |

Today 20/04/2017, certainly is one of my more memorable days. On this day, the Nigerian Air Force paid my home town, not just my home town, but my own parents home a medical outreach visit. From where the team provided humanitarian service to my home community. I felt so much joy and was completely overwhelmed with happiness. While members of the NAF regiment provided perimeter security, the Nigerian Air Force team Led by Medical Centre Command officer, G. K Eluka, provided free medical care to more than 400 people. Totally nice guys, after i took permission from the CO, I brought out my mobile phone and photographed away. 4 Likes

Here is the Honker NAF Regiment came along with, pretty nice vehicle, good ground clearance. Great for Recon missions. The other Regiment guys were at strategic positions. Man, the Tavor-21 looks so much like a toy gun. 7 Likes

giles14: we will never get the US harpoons with it and in military their is geopolitics , usa have excessive control conditions , + israeli have the same and links with the program , so impossible for algeria to choose it kilo submarine is a strategic deterence weapon for algeria , come with solid russian allied supply , possibly futur illimited upgrades, algerian navy have looong experience with russian submarines (from 1980 with romeo class submarines) and kilo 636 m are at the same level from type 209 , i just see some aspect were dutch type 209 are better on paper but i dont see a big difference between the two capability in meditareneane sea . |

GreenandGold: there is no regulation in the international sea , there is not so many submarines in mediteraneens sea, its difficult to detect a submarine its not like ships on radars , so if it happen to a military ship or submarine to detect another submarine on sonar they will just monitor it and avoid each other , but I read that the strait gibraltar was filled with submarines detector placed on the seabed . |

Next SANDF rotation for the FIB coming up - 5 SA Infantry Battalion is currently honing its jungle warfare skills ahead of deploying to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as part of the MONUSCO Force Intervention Brigade (FIB). -5 SAI has been at SA Army’s jungle training base outside Port St Johns in the Eastern Cape since the beginning of April. -When this section of training is completed the unit will move to the SANDF mobilisation unit in Bloemfontein for final mission readiness training and mobilisation before moving out to the eastern DRC in June. -The deployment is a 12 month one and will be 5 SAI’s third to the central African country. -To better equip deploying forces, soldiers are prepared in a forest environment where current battle tactics are adapted to suit circumstances and conditions in the DRC -Utilising the SANDF approach of “we train as we fight and we fight as we train”, deploying soldiers will focus on patrols in jungle areas, house and building clearance, fighting in built-up areas (FIBA), river crossings and fire and movement in dense terrain. -The emphasis will at all times be on command and control. -While at Port St Johns soldiers will also undergo helicopter operations training and controlling aerial fire on ground targets from combat support helicopters, including 16 Squadron Rooivalks. - The country’s total contribution to the UN peacekeeping and peace building effort in the DRC remaining at the 1 300 mark. read the full story: http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=47544:5-sai-readying-for-fib-deployment-with-jungle-training&catid=111:sa-defence&Itemid=242
