Well, different strokes for different folks.

Norway, Canada and Sweden have a far better standard of living than USA, but for me i'd rather be an American than be a Canadian, Norwegian or Swedish.

I'd rather be Chinese than Taiwanese or Hong kongese

I'd rather be Russian than Ukrainian or Belarussian

I'd rather be Australian than be New Zealander or Fijian

I'd rather be Brazillian than be Chilean or Venezuelan

I'd rather be Indian than be Nepali or Sri lankan

I'd rather be Egyptian than Morrocan or Tunisian

I'd rather be Nigerian than Kenyan or Ghanian

Smaller countries may find it easier to have a higher standard of living, but at the end of the day they cannot beat the influence of the larger nations in their lives.
The larger nations still dominates almost their entire lives in many aspects.
The larger nations enjoy the fame, the power and leadership!
You are highly deluded if you think ANY Tunisian would want to be associated with the extreme poverty that characterizes much of Egypt, you know so little of the planet it seems!! No Norwegian has been interested in being American for the past 50 years.
Many Americans want to be Canadian these days.
And who told you any Hong Kong resident or anyone in Taiwan would want to be ChineseDude, Hong Kong is 4 times richer than mainland China and Taiwan around 5 times, both areas want nothing to do with China because they see themselves as faaar more advanced with better quality of life.
Same to Kenya.
There are people from all over the world of all colors who are proud to call themselves Kenyan. Black,White,Asian,Arab.
How many Nigerians can even call themselves Nigerians given the poor reputation Nigeria has!!!
As a Kenyan, I would never ever EVER want to be confused for a 419 scammer, drug dealer, human trafficker or those people who marry fat white women in the UK in the name of getting a UK passport. Our peple are not know for that!!!
Not even a Malawian would want to be confused for a Nigerian

Most in Kenyan Cities Have No Access to Clean Water
A recent survey estimates that less than half of Kenyans living in urban areas have access to safe water. Meanwhile, other Kenyans are coping with water rationing measures. Experts blame the shortage on corruption and global warming.

In a section of Nairobi's Mukuru slum, , one of many slums in the capital, thousands of people purchase their water from just 74 taps. They often walk far distances and carry heavy containers to get that water to their homes.
cry
"Because of the water problem, we wake up very early since you can see that I am normally very busy with my work which if I don't do, we won't get anything to eat. So this forces me to wake up at 4am to go and fetch water," said Mukuru resident Jane Mwangi.

Meanwhile, in Nairobi's central business district, private water suppliers are becoming an increasingly common sight as office buildings can go for days without water.

Most middle-class homes receive water only three or four days a week because of a country-wide rationing program.

A recent survey by Transparency International-Kenya and the development group Maji na Ufanisi estimates that only half of Kenyans have access to clean, safe water. Some 25 percent of Kenyans get clean water through pipes, either at public water taps or in their homes.

Particularly vulnerable are slum dwellers, who comprise some 60 percent of Nairobi's population. Activists say slums are generally ignored by the government, so services such as water tend to be scarce in those areas.

Edward Kairu is executive director of the development group Maji na Ufanisi.

He estimates that about 70 percent of Kenya's water problems actually are due to corruption and inefficiencies in the water system.

The biggest cause of the water shortage, says Kairu, comes from deteriorating pipes and infrastructure, some of which has not been replaced for 50 years.

"In some cities like Nairobi, we may be losing anywhere above 30 percent of the water that is treated - that is a lot of water that is wasted," he said. "Added to that, we also have a lot of illegal connections."

Transparency International executive director Job Ogonda describes the second major cause.

"Most of the corruption happens in the diversion of water from its legal flow to either politically connected flow or flow to people who have bribed for it to flow their way," he said.

The report says that, as a result of this and other corruption, more than half of water consumed for domestic purposes is unaccounted for, while the government is collecting only 20 percent of the fees due from large water users.

Robert Gakubia is CEO of Kenya's Water Services Regulatory Board. He says that the government has been battling poor management in the water sector.

"You can get out laws, get out guidelines, try to monitor, enforce compliance and all that, but if in practical sense there is no investment to support those works, you know that as you give the orders, you know that the problem of mobilizing resources takes much longer," he explained.

For now, many Kenyans are recycling the little water they have to make it last as long as possible.

This to me is outrightly insignificant, there aint no gain laching over assumptions, presumptions, without substantial evidence to validate the veracity of such flimsy baseless claims.

Nation building is dynamic, gradual, it is not definite, thats why constant negotiation goes on,and people have the right to self determination, some get balkanized, some get annexed, some decenteralized, some have two state solution, etc things aint constant,so they keep changing, evolving within the circle of dynamism and gradualism.

I see no gain in you tryna hush him down based on his personal opinions as regards the bone of contention,as much as you are entitled to yours, why not let him bask in his.

Every human society,no matter its form, definition, has good bad and urgly, there aint no utopian eldorado anywhere,as much as you have perpetrators of dastardly acts,so you also have achievers of incredible feets.ups and downs, lows and highs, rights and wrongs, lefts and rights, and that is the mistic of life, you can't change it,though they could be managed, the bipod of human existence is accentuated on both negativities and positivities.

Kibera is just one of the so many slums in Nairobi.

We also saw that many Kibera residents are selling their govt given appartments and returning back to the slums (what is being done abt that?)

Street lighting is very functional in Lagos. There is municipal and estate provided water in many parts (the well planned parts) while the other parts rely on private boreholes (which is quite affordable here).. .Power is stable in some parts. It's not erratic everywhere. There are so many industries in Lagos than run on power.

I've admitted several times myself, the abject decay of our infrastructure, but I've also pointed out to you that you harbour a very rosy view of life in Kenya that's out of touch with reality for many Kenyans. Maybe you are from upper class or upper-middle class stock in Kenya and you know little about how everyone else lives. Piped water isn't the norm in Kenya as you claim. There are water shortages that rope in about half of your population and scarcities abound.
The assertion that only 10% of Lagosians have water from the state is a tad misleading. It makes it look like there's a water crisis. Maybe 10% are connected to the Water Corporation direct to their homes, but everyone else has convenient solutions to get water and there are no scarcities. My family home for example is not connected to the water corporation, but at cheap cost, water tanker vehicles fill up 2 large tanks that we can pump which comfortably serve our 5-bedroom house for over a week with no rationing at all. Just like other houses in the neighborhood. Many drill boreholes. Many construct wells (if the water is clean).

Also think many of you cherry pick which slum stats to believe. What is certain is a considerable number of the Nairobi population live in shanties. You can't have a GDP per capita of a little above $1000 a year without some massive, massive poverty distribution.

But just as presumptive and baseless is claiming small countries all envy the bigger countries. A hell of a lot of citizens of smaller countries around the world love their country just the way it is. In this very country where many of you are bragging about its size, many citizens wish we could split the country.

And yes, every country has good and bad, but some are renowned more for bad than good. Let's tell ourselves a hard truth, the Nigerian passport is not a passport abroad which you flash around anyhow with pride. grin If you're a Swiss or Belgian or Swedish man, you travel anywhere around the world without even needing a visa. If you're Nigerian, you're in for major scrutiny right up till getting through customs in many countries. I know a guy with dual Nigerian and Ghanaian citizenship and he'd be the first to admit he uses his Ghanaian passport far more cos the Nigerian identity is more tarnished and he faces extra hassles because of it.

Only two and you no wan make we hear word. Bhuuuhahaha! grin

Kenya in African politics is inconsequential. grin

When we talk Africa, we talk Ethiopia, Egypt, Nigeria, and South Africa, sorry. grin

If na oyinbos, den full many cities in Nigeria. grin

Look at Calabar with oyinbos full ground. grin

My dear, the number of oyinbos has never been a measure of anything other than the number of oyinbos. I dont know who told you having oyinbos is important- or not.
Yes only two HQs. Getting even 1 global HQ of UN is a monumental task. Paris has forever been trying to steal the 2HQs away from Nairobi. We have effing 2. So hell yeah, only 2 goddamn GLOBAL UN HQs will do, thank you very much. That puts Nairobi at oar with other cities hosting UN Hqs like Genevé and NY city. I dont think UN would want to put up anything global in sweaty, septic tank and borehole using Lagoose.

Analyse that.

Yet more FACTS,which is what I prefer to deal with, namely the Global Youth Index. This is a composite measure of 18 different indicators profiling education, health and well being, employment, political participation and youth civic activity. Who wants to guess Kenya's and Naijj's respective ranking??
One country was YDI was 0.563 above both India and Pakistan not far from China the other 0.514-typical. http://youthdevelopmentindex.org/
Who'll take bets? HAHAHAHA!! Don't thank me all at once!

People being patriotic about their country is majorly subjective to perceptions.
1.One could be proud for the potentialities, attainments of his country, and can equally be unproud of things like corruption, terrorism, political instability.
2.people wanting breakup,is a sign of dissatisfaction with status quo, hence the need for renegotiation of the country's existence,if conditions can be met, then bargains are reached, and they become better for it.the carlexit is gaining momemtum, some uk seeking another referendum, the catalans initially waved the spanish flag, but today the calls for disintegration is increasing.
3.some of the nations with good image, and visa ish,at sometimes past in the phase of their nation building equally had awfull image and perception too,but the story is changed today, such are part of the gradual phases we talking here.,,iraq with one of the worst visa today, was better of post sadam era, untill the us and her allied coalition invasion, look at libya today, can same be said for the post gadaffi era,now trump is accussing al assad of chemical disemination, with their western media pushing the trajectory of make beleive.
4.come to think of it,would such negative perception be the true reflection of reality, going by such analogy it means that every nigerian could be evil, init?

United Nations Office at Nairobi – UNON.

The main reason was to bring/achieve world peace and also to prevent a 3rd world war from happening.
UNEP and UN-Habitat are also within the UNON and there a total of 3,800 staff from all over the world (member states).

It has 6 official languages: Arabic,Chinese,English, Russian , French and Spanish

The land on which the UNON occupies was donated by the Kenyan government, the first president donated 175 acres of land in 1975 and the second president donated 40 acres in 1983.

There are 4 United nations offices worldwide in the following cities: Geneva, Vienna, New York and Nairobi.

UN also has it’s organization structure, ICJ, UN Assembly, security council among others.

United Nation security council has 15 members – 5 permanent and 10 non-permanent

There are several gifts at the UN-ON compound donated by member states, namely:

Picture painting from China government
Handmade saddle from the government of Morocco
Polar bear statue from China government
Index finger statue from government of Chile
Burnt tress donated by France government
Elephant donated by Kenyan government

Each gift has a meaning.

Also within the compound is the new UN headquarters offices which uses solar and was built in 2009/2010. Its occupied by UNEP and Un-Habit and has approximately 1,200 staff. Within the compound there is a memorial garden where tea and coffee plants commemorate those who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998.
