BREAKING NEWS: SUPER SOPRTS STOPS LIVE BROADCAST OF NPFL MATCHES

Cable sports channel SuperSport has pulled out of the
deal with organisers of the Nigeria Professional Football
League (NPFL) due to alleged breach of contract.
SuperSport for years has been the official broadcast sponsor
of the NPFL which is organised by the League Management
Company (LMC).
According to SuperSport, the termination was as a result of a
breach of contract on the part of the LMC.
Caroline Oghuma, the Public Relations officer of DSTV
could not reveal how the LMC breached the contract of their
deal.
“It was terminated due to a breach of contract, that’s the
official position of the company on this matter,” Oghuma
told Pulse Sports.
The General Manager of SuperSport West Africa Felix
Awogu also told Pulse Sport that the company have spent
an average of N6b annually for the last nine years for both
broadcast right and production.
All efforts to know how the LMC breached the contract was
not successful as SuperSport insist that it is on the LMC part
to reveal that information.
Chairman of the LMC, Shehu Dikko could not be reached
for further information.
The development comes weeks after Supersport took a
similar decision in Kenya – terminating a ten-year
relation with the Kenyan Premier League.
Currently, they only show live matches of the Zambian
Super League and the South Africa’s Premier Soccer
League.
In 2016, the company, who claimed to be downsizing
its operations in Africa for business reasons, ended
their union with the Ghanaian Premier League, which
another pay television company Star Times have since
taken over.
Supersport, who used to hold the TV right of the
Nigeria Basketball League, has lost it to Kwese Sports.
There are also dwindling subscription numbers and
stiff competition from new entrants like Star Times,
Kwese Sports among others.
In August 2013, the LMC secured a four year broadcast
deal with Supersport worth $34 million. The contract
was to run for four years, between 2015 and 2019.
Following the take-over of the basketball league, Kwese
Sports is likely to be the next broadcast right owner of
the NPFL.

Mutiu was a very tactical player.
Very efficient.

Also a utility player.

I wonder why he has not taken his coaching serious just like Keshi, Siasia, Amuneke and Oliseh.

Mutui, Amuneke and Oliseh all have UEFA Pro license.

He even got his own before Oliseh but we know na connection dem dey take get job for NFF as you rightly said. grin

Show me clips of Iheanacho doing the Ronaldinho things then I will keep my peace. grin

Don't mention Rohr for here because we know Awoniyi has done nothing to justify a call-up to the national team. grin

I haven't contributed to this discussion, I just don't know all these players well enough. To start making deductions.

However, in assessing these players we seem to be talking about past glories. We need to look at the present continous.

Beating 2/3 or even 4 players in youth football and trying the same in a professional competitive game are completely two different things.

Taking it further dribbling and beating your player in the Finnish league is a lot different from trying it in La Liga or the EPL.

I can't say anything about Awoniyi beyond his stats are very poor and no amount of dribbling can change that.

Mutiu has been more occupied with being part of the Shooting stars board.D't think he has been aggressive about a national team coaching job. Nobody even hears any comment credited to him.

Look at Ikpeba and Amokachi. They are regular faces on our TV screens. But Mutiu, the last time I saw him on TV was during Yekini's burial as he was part of the burial organisng committee.

I do not know Mutiu that closely. Does he have communications problems?

Can Rohr list Awoniyi as one of his wingers? It is unimaginable.

You know players improve and some do not infact they diminish. This is even more pronounced at youth level.

All I have heard about Awoniyi so far, is. PAST GLORIES of yesteryears. How good is he now is a more concise question.

KC whether we like it or not has improved, however, Awoniyi simply has not. Indeed he has regressed. So he is essentially no longer relevant, until he can show progression.

In my opinion barring a miracle he will never play for Liverpool. Danny Ings cannot get into the side and he has proven pedigree and cost in excess of £10 million. Right now trying to offload Awoniyi to a Vanarama national league side would be problematic.

Please will you stop this. You mention don santos to backup your claim, but you forgot Paul pogba left man u to juventus for playing time. Paul pogba became one of the best in the world due to the action he took, and please don't tell me he never stay to learn the all and all of a midfield legend. To be the most expensive player in the world no be moi moi. look at other young players like mbape, rashford even dybala and dembele, they are playing and still learning. No one is saying training is not important, but when you combine playing and training together it gives you quicker and better results. I don't think you know what playing time can do to a player, it gives you that moral booster to want to learn more. Let me give you a typical example, in school after the day's teaching you are given homework to test your understanding of the topic. So please get it, no one, I repeat no one is against him learning. Iheanacho should be treated fairly, because he
has never disappointed when call upon.

I laugh when I see questions like this......

Partly because it is the perfect opportunity for anyone to come on board and just say, 'well he used to have but pep has drilled it outta him...... The drilling school at the Etihad campus is anti-dribbling bla Bla Bla......'

AND PARTLY AGAIN...... because It shows how short many people's memories are.

Iheanacho...... Kelechi Iheanacho has never lost and will never lose his dribbling abilities. AGAINST Senegal, he was our most daring player when on the ball in the final third.... He showed daring skill moves on some occasions and una still dey ask if Nacho can dribble?? Which kain analytical discussions una dey get these days sef?

I need not go further into other games..... Zambia? Tanzania? Luxembourg?? Na wa oooo.... At Man City, Nacho has also shown same abilities albeit not so often as under pellegrini, he didn't need to be so flashy.... while under Pep, he is not exactly enjoying Pep's trust/confidence and haven't been given the opportunity to shine as much.... his best game under pep till date remains that Southampton game where he showed huge glimpses of his limitless talents.

But honestly.... Na wa oooo.... Iheanacho this, iheanacho that.... Almost every time, one dig or the other is aimed at the young man and worst... Things are said about his abilities which are so far from the truth.... ALL OF UNA SHOULD FEAR GOD OOOOO angry

And Egbon Forgiveness.... Abeg.... I take God beg you fa.... biko... abeg... I rate Taiwo Awoniyi so high... I am one of his few remaining believers on this thread sef.... u should know this by now.... I will never underrate that young man but plsss.... let us not sell the wrong info that Awoniyi is actually more technically gifted than Iheanacho... because even Awoniyi himself would disagree with you....

In Iheanacho, we are talking about a player who provided four out of Awoniyi's five goals at the U-17s if not all sef.... (if u doubt it... I can give you the matches for the four assists I know 100% by just verbal citation which you can go check out on YouTube)... I mean... these are games I watch again and again in my free time when I just wanna remind myself of when the Journey to the Birth of our second golden generation began..... and even for reasons beyond that.

Do you remember That Isaac Success goal against Sweden? It was rated the no.7 best goal at the 2013 FIFA U-17 WC because of is exquisiteness and execution.... You know who the provider of the assist was? yep... Kelechi himself... and Isaac was the finisher and would have gone on to destroy more opponents sef but injury happened shortly after that goal.

Talking of Awoniyi.... I will tell you we have a super hardworking player who contributes so much to Teamwork. Even Gyan Asamoah singled out Awoniyi for his uniqueness which is based on him being a hardworker upfront... this is why and how Awoniyi picked up five assists.... He was and still is a hard worker for the team and also possesses a subtlly fine sleek touch which he uses sometimes to beat one man and get into scoring positions... but ultimately, Awoniyi is a galloping horse upfront who can run for hours and not get tired. #HighWorkrate

[b]And also note.... Abeg.. anyone saying Awoniyi no get Aerial abilities.... una don fail am oooo.... against Sweden wetin him use score? and also as bonus... who set up the goal after nice work by Yahaya in the middle before spreading to the right for the "assist maker" to come in...? wink grin Now this brings me to my next point.

In that team, Musa Yahaya was the doyen when it came to limitless technical abilities closely followed by Isaac Success and then Kelechi Iheanacho (even as highly as I rate him this is the truth... na him be third most technically gifted back then.... I used to rate him second to Yahaya but again Success' injury made a lot of people miss out on what that lad would have done to opponents but ofcos... if he hasn't , Awoniyi won't get his chance... so life or should I say, opportunity happened).

So uhmmm... Sir Madaboi.... Kelechi Promise Iheanacho don't just still have dribbling in his skills closet... he actually has it in abundance.... only that they are being inhibited at man city.... but in Super Eagles games, you still see the class and the brilliance of the lad...

All nacho needs now is a team and coach who believes in him and trusts him and won't knock him even when he flunks just like How Awoniyi is enjoying his manager's confidence despite his barren run.

Iheanacho needs the permission from his manager to express himself..... because under pellegrini, we saw just flashes of it because of pellegrini's style.... and Nacho had to be more direct. And now under Pep.... he hardly or infact does not sees chances...

But his most expressive performance still remain that game at the etihad when he rescued Man City against Southampton.

The lad still got it and doesn't look like losing such class. smiley

When people always say Awoniyi has regressed I always say a NO to that. I will always say his development has slowed down. Or his development has fallen short of people's expectations. I believe he is still developing and may come up one day as one of our top strikers, though unlikely. He is just 19, I personally do not rule out any striker until he is 26.

Awoniyi was not what people thought he was in the first place. I have never rated him highly. He was over-rated. There are some strikers you see score few goals at that level yet you can still rate them highly. Awoniyi is not much technically gifted /Talented. He is an average striker that has learnt a lot from a very good coach as he seems a player that really plays to instruction. That was very evident in Manu picking him ahead of Success at U20. Also he is very enterprising. But all these can only push you to a certain level. He has gotten to the level where he has to face real professionals who know how to snuff out attackers.

Ajax is a team that has impressed me so much this season. I just love the dynamism of their youth and all.... Andre Onana, Davy Klaasen, Bertrand Traore, Hakim Ziyech, Davinson Sanchez, et al.... fine young team.... and I hope they can get their hands on the Europa title but well.... man united stands in their way I guess... sad

And yeah... the Belgian sides gave a good account in this season's Europa... no doubts, the Belgian league has good quality and can be a "major" hub for our young footballers beginning their pro careers in europe.

tbaba1234:
Ajax young guns are through to the semi finals with 10 men.

Three Belgian league clubs did very well in the Europa league. Gent knocked out Spurs and Anderlecht pushed man united to extra time. It illustrates the quality of the league and why it is an excellent pivot for young players.

Pls pardon me but I won't wanna rate the players just yet as some on your list haven't actually don't much on a higher level. Some are still in the beginning years of their pro careers... while some others are still trying to break into their main teams and Begin to shine....

But I kinda like Chief Icon4s' ratings... I recommend it except for a few juggles in positions I would make if permitted... like for instance, I personally would rate Ajagun above Ndidi in dribbling... but hey.... every one has an angle to their list okay.... so Chief Icon4s' resonates with me more.... wink

NPFL TOP SCORER RACE | NO COMPETITION WITH ODEY SAYS SAMUEL MATHIAS
 

MFM's Stephen Odey(top), El-Kanemi's Samuel Mathias (bottom left), Enyimba's Mfon Udoh (bottom right)

El-Kanemi Warriors’ Samuel Mathias has said that he is not in any competition with MFM hitman, Stephen Odey for the league highest goals scorer award.

The Desert Warriors midfielder has downplayed any suggestions that he is competing with the Olukoya Boys marksman for the top flight’s Golden Boot

From the attacking midfield role, Mathias has scored ten goals while Odey has scored 14 goals after 19 matches.

However, he insists there is no pressure to compete with the forward as he is focused on helping his team.

“I have played against Stephen Odey and I think he is a good striker and he’s doing well for himself and his team,” Mathias said.

“For me, being the second highest goals scorer, I don’t feel any sort of pressure with Odey. There isn’t any kind of competition between me and Odey, he’s got his goals to score and I have mine too.

“My role and focus is to help my team, we want to win every match we play so that is what I want.

“We are like a big family here at El-Kanemi Warriors, we promised ourselves to finish the race. We have enjoyed working together as a team and we shall by God’s grace fulfill our promise at the start of the season to meet our set target,” he concluded.

Well, I am only telling people what I saw. grin

Dem say Awoniyi no sabi dribble at all at all but the video said otherwise hence the need to do the needful. grin

It is not about past or current situation but about the ability to dribble. You get my point? grin
