Southampton Target Onyekuru Makes Final Shortlist For Best African Player In Belgium KAS Eupen Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru made the final list of five for the prestigious Ebony Shoe Award in Belgium, which is given to the best player of African descent in the League. Onyekuru has scored 18 goals this season, with 14 coming in the league for Eupen, in what is his first season in the top flight in Belgium, since graduating from the prestigious Aspire Academy in Qatar. His fine form has led to interest from several teams around Europe with Southampton, the latest team to join in his chase, as exclusively reported by this football portal during the course of the week. He faces competition from Zulte Waregem Senegalese star Mbaye Leye, Sofiane Hanni from Algeria who plays for Anderlecht, Landry Dimata of KV Oostende who is from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Belgium international who has Congolese roots Youri Tielemans and plays for Anderlecht . The 19 year old is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Nigerian stars like former Chelsea ace Celestine Babayaro who won the award during his time at Anderlecht, as well as Daniel Amokachi who won it twice during his time at Club Brugge. Victor Ikpeba and Godwin Okpara are the other Nigerians who have won the award in the past. Sofiane Hanni who is in the run for this year award, won the award last year during his time with KV Mechelen. **Prince Michael Source: http://owngoalnigeria.com/2017/04/21/13413/ 2 Likes |

Danycrusoe: The first penalty was very soft. The IU player just tumbled with minimum contact. Even the second handball can be debated. According to the Fifa rule book on handball: Did the hand move towards the ball? was it an unexpected ball? However, I can see how a referee can give both. |

Danycrusoe: Haha haha. Nothing to complain about na. The two were well deserved penalties. Abi na make them break person leg for 18yards box before dem gree say na penalty? Excellent officiating. That 2nd penalty, the hand ball, could have gone unnoticed by so many refs. But those Ifeanyi Ubah boys dey tap ball o. Those penalties especially the 2nd one na die. |

TheSuperNerd: I know the gap has closed a bit but the 3-4-3 formation should have been used for the team of the year and Victor Moses should be on this list all jokes aside. He along with Alonso Have changed football. Rightt now Barca and Arsenal use the 3-4-3 and Victor Moses is a main part of that. 2 Likes 1 Share |

tbaba1234: I don't seem to understand ur last statement, but both calls can be given or overlooked depending on the nature of the ref in question. both are penalties based on the normal popular rules of football, u don't handle the ball in the box and u don't push or pull ur opponent in the box, anyway both are soft but they are still penalties that aren't too controversial, it's not supposed to generate the kind of rants that 3sc made after the game. y can't they score to equalise and I can see that IU played nice attacking football near the 3sc box, y couldn't day take the ball away from their box, if not for their goalkeeper, IU would v scored from a header so they don't need to complain the way they did 1 Like |

Icon4s: so many well deserved late penalties like that have been given but because of lack of video proof, once it is the home team who benefited and equalised tru the pk ppl believe there has been an "ojoro". Stuffs like that happen in foreign leagues even epl where home teams and big teams get late penalties from ref to equalise against small and away teams but because we can get video evidence it is usually not debatable unless it is highly controversial. once again the need for proper coverage of our matches cannot be over emphasised |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by tbaba1234: 8:40pm On Apr 21, 2017 |
Danycrusoe: I am saying that depending on the referee, both calls can be given or overlooked. Or one given and the other overlooked. With penalties, there is a level of subjectivity sometimes. Look at the handball, by the letter of the law, that can be looked at as ball to hand. |

Danycrusoe: I don't agree with interviewing coaches right after games. They should have a couple minutes to clear their head. Football is all about passion and people tend to say the wrong things when their juices are still flowing and we have to remember that our coaches do not have replays to watch for the most part so they might come out and abuse a ref when he got the call right. 1 Like |

Humility017: So you think it is a fluke that the likes of Lukaku and co. left Chelsea and started doing well immediately. You can have talent but in the wrong environment, the talents diminish. The competition in Chelsea is high and it takes a lot of hard work to stand a chance to make it in the team. As I said, even without regular time, KVB could walk into the starting line-up of Wolfsburg. It means a player can not have regular playing time and still be in top condition. The point is plain. I wonder if you understand what happens on the training pitch. |

promzyphyno: At the end, Rohr needs the best players that can help him make a strong impact at Russia. If it is all about Key players, we would seek regular players from Finland and Norway. Awoniyi got more game time than Iheanacho this season but I bet Rohr will pick Iheanacho over Awoniyi. Food for thought. Remember to wash the plates. |

BascoVanVeli: to some extent u are right, but this is too common with our local coaches, very minute number of them agree to tactical errors or deficiencies and even superiority of their opponents as a reason for their loss, rather they believe the ref is the reason y the opponents took all 3 points. Their unnecessary reactions to games is what the media will build on, and thus paint the league n refs in bad light |

TheGoodJoe: If he keeps getting benched People like Tammy Abraham if he decides to play for Nigeria will displace nacho from the team. How can you give an example of an off form awoniyi or are you saying awoniyi s form would have been better if he was on the bench than when he is playing. Guardiola is not the only coach that uses those methods in training players it's done in Barca in athletico Bilbao hoffenham, celta Vigo, dortmund, porto, ajax, there are a long list of clubs he can go to and still look like he never left, he needs game time he needs to play against different set of defenders and get passed them and become tougher not kompany, stones, dat moustache guy and adarabioyo every day. 1 Like |

TheSuperNerd: Ilechukwu Berates PFA XI Without Moses , Tips Ndidi To Make Future All - Star Team Mountain of Fire and Miracles FC coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, believes Super Eagles duo of Victor Moses and Wilfred Ndidi have been fantastic for Chelsea and Leicester City respectively this seaso, but understands why both Nigerians were not named in the PFA all-star team, Completesportsnigeria.com reports. The Professional Footballers Association on Thursday named the PFA Team of the Season which consisted of four Chelsea and four Tottenham Hotspur players. The list also has a Liverpool, Manchester United and an Everton player on it. "I think Victor Moses and Wilfred Ndidi have done a good job for their clubs so far. But perhaps you could say there are players who deserved it more," Ilechukwu told Completesportsnigeria.com. "Moses is not a natural defender. He was converted to a wing-back at Chelsea by Antonio Conte, while Ndidi only joined Leicester City in January. The season began in August 2016. "Politics is everywhere. I may not talk or argue much about Ndidi, but Moses is supposed to be among them because he has been one of Chelsea's best players this season. But I'm sure they can make such a team in the near future especially Ndidi." Arsenal's duo of Alexis Sanchez and Manchester United's Zlatan Ibrahimovic were conspicuously missing from the lineup despite their huge roles at their clubs. Sanchez has scored 19 Premier League goals while Ibrahimovic has scored 28 goals in his maiden season in England. PFA TEAM OF THE SEASON David De Gea (Manchester United) Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur) Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur) David Luiz (Chelsea) Gary Cahill (Chelsea) N'golo Kante (Chelsea) Dele Alli (Totenham) Sadio Mane (Liverpool) Eden Hazard (Chelsea) Romelu Lukaku (Everton) Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur) Source: http://www.completesportsnigeria.com/ilechukwu-berates-pfa-xi-without-moses-tips-ndidi-make-future-star-team/ 1 Like |

Sir Basco you are spot on..... Victor Moses deserves a spot on that PFA XI... I am sure if Moses was "English", The FA will bend the formation rules a bit and knock out Walker, "a fellow English" Do you know the FA released an alternative XI with the 3-4-3/3-5-2 formation that now included Moses?? nonsense! Let the truth be told abeg.... BascoVanVeli: Uhmmmm.... so Moses is not Energetic abi?? Abi to play wingback na beans shey? Oga... moses trumps Walker this season.... I repeat... no rightback in the whole EPL merits a place in the PFA XI after What Moses did at RWB which is half RB and Half RW. What Moses achieved at Chelsea this season was just too remarkable.... maybe we play it down because he is Nigerian and not a foreigner. krattoss: 2 Likes |
