airmark: Isn't this āss backward logic? Griezmann as a left winger scored 20 goals for Sociedad which is the best a winger has scored outside Barca-Madrid in recent times. You are comparing to a no 9 in the league winning team as if to prove what? How does that compare with Bale winning POTY from a 6th place Spurs team and Hazard in 3rd place Chelsea team could not even get close to competing with him? 9 Likes |

Ibime: Fact here is, that a player performed better than the others years back, put no barrier to how great those inferior ones could become years later. That bale outperformed hazard years back never stops eden from working harder and becoming a greater player in future and move higher than him. Costa was griezmann's boss in 2013/2014. The frenchman was the best player in laliga last year, 3rd best in the world, while costa is about to go into exile. Your logic fell flat on its face, no need dragging it. 6 Likes |

airmark: Costa was not Griezmanns boss in 2014. Costa just played for the winning team. If I ask you to name the last winger outside Barca or Madrid to score 20 goals in a season, you may be going back a decade or more to find more than one. Griezmanns feat in 2014 is historic. How that connects with the fact that a lower placed Spurs player sonned Hazard in 2013 is the missing piece of logic. If Bales (double PFA winner) attempt to battle with the big boys is not a harbinger of things to come from Hazard then logic is lost on you. It's not like Bale wasn't seen sonning Hazard last summer at the Euros. If you want more empirical evidence go and check the record of ex-Barca flop like Sanchez Vs Hazard. 60% more goals than Hazard since coming to England. Even 2nd degree Barca flop like Pedro has more goals and more assists since coming to England. All this evidence suggests Hazard is not equipped to compete with Messi, Ororo or even Neymar since their castoffs are even outproducing him. Believe you me, Hazard is not going to go to Barca or Madrid and wow them with dribbles. If you are in their front three, they need to see goals and assists on the table. In short, the only logic you have espoused here is that Wilfred Ndidi can hope to work harder and become a great player in future to maybe compete with Messi and Ororo, mbok. In the things that matter in Barca or Madrid front 3 (goals and assists), he has shown little or no improvement. He is still posting roughly the same stats as when he arrived in England. He is kuku better off converting to midfield and claiming he is not about goals and assists like Iniesta. He is already talking about it. 9 Likes |

Ibime: Griezman wasn't in the laliga best 11 in 2013/2014, costa was. The difference tween spurs and chelsea when bale won the best epl player , was 3 points so dont let it sound as if blues were way superior to spurs. In the epl team of that season hazard made it so it wasn't as if he was so far away in quality from bale. Before you drive yourself off the point totally. Below was your line and i dont know why you need all these stories to prove that a player of hazard's quality three years ago cant be the best player 4,5,6 years later. Griezmann couldnt defeat costa to be among the laliga best 11 in 2014 but now he is the 3rd best in the world. Thats what you should address. Ibime: 2 Likes |

WHY DOES GUARDIOLA GET THE LEEWAY THAT'S DENIED TO WENGER? Peter Staunton The worse that Arsenal do the more attention their fans receive, while the man he outclassed on Sunday still gets a relatively free ride COMMENT Andy Warhol said that in the future everyone would be famous for 15 minutes and that’s quite enough now from Arsenal Fan TV and the hostility they’ve wrought. Pep has failed to live up to City hype These self-promoters are performing on demand — distorting all perspective on the single most important individual in Arsenal’s history. And it’s catching; it’s become a meme in itself. Turn on the television and tune it to WrestleMania, the London Marathon, an Antarctic exploration mission and there will be some try-hard with a pitiful #WengerOut banner late to the joke. The disrespect that flows towards Arsene Wenger — from the stands, from the streets, from airplanes over stadiums — stems directly from that fan channel. Opinions on there are not only endured but actively sought. It makes for compelling viewing. Fans of all clubs now tune in as a matter of course after a bad result to watch Arsenal’s fans run their own team’s noses in it. The louder and more hysterical the response, the more people will be tempted to watch. The more eyes that are on the channel, the better it is for the owners. And what the hordes hear on there, they repeat verbatim. There is only one opinion worth shouting round here: #WengerOut. Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final victory was a timely rebuke then to Wenger’s detractors. PLAY “It was a big test for us today,” Wenger said. “A mental test because many people questioned if we can turn up in an occasion like that. That’s why I’m very proud for the players. “We have gone through a very difficult period and we faced some adversity that made the situation more difficult, from inside as well. We have shown a united response, not a divided response. Mentally we were in a fragile position.” Arsenal and the Manchester City they beat had experienced pretty similar seasons up to Sunday afternoon, but a stupefying lack of perspective obscures an accurate comparison. Both were knocked out of the Champions League at the round of 16 stage, for example, and are under-performing in terms of a sustained Premier League title run. City would rather sink the players, the staff, the fans, the stadium and anything else you’d care to mention and leave only Guardiola intact if it came to starting again. The opposite is true at Arsenal, where the loudmouths blame Wenger for anything and everything. The general sentiment appears to be that Guardiola is new to the league — he’s going to need some time to adapt, but Wenger’s been here 20 years and he should know better. Wenger continues future mind games Pep has indeed had to get used to things pretty quickly. He has been taken aback by the intensity in the English game and that has meant compromising on his ideals of football perfection. For the first time in his managerial life he’ll end the season without a trophy, and yesterday’s man Wenger did a job on him to keep Arsenal within a shout of one. City have been gearing up for Pep’s arrival ever since Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain first pitched up at the Etihad around five years ago. It’s not like Pep was parachuted into the job mid-season and told to fight fires like Hull City's Marco Silva — who pound-for-pound has done a better job than him. He gave six months’ notice. And here he is, involved in the same old top-four dog fight that occupied Manuel Pellegrini last season. He has overseen a regression of City’s Champions League form, too. There have been high-profile disputes with bona fide City legends like Joe Hart and Yaya Toure. He’s even taken the step to drop Sergio Aguero — surely the best centre-forward the club has ever had and, like Hart and Toure, a veteran of two league title wins. In all those disputes the fans — for the most part — took Guardiola’s side. Contrast those reactions to what happened at Arsenal when Wenger dared to drop Alexis Sanchez at Liverpool. The Chile striker downed tools in training and openly disrespected his team-mates on the field, and yet Wenger was made out to be the one at fault. Guardiola was the one who began introducing tactical concepts that his players couldn’t or wouldn’t deal with. Nonetheless, he gets the credit for trying — the players blamed for their lack of adaptability, their technical ability or lack of intelligence. They are not where they should be at this stage of the season and Guardiola has plenty to answer for. Meanwhile, it’s Wenger who carries the can when Sanchez strops, when Mesut Ozil goes missing or when Theo Walcott lets him down again. And yet somehow Arsenal can move within four points of City by winning their game in hand. City have to play the Manchester derby against a strong and improving United this week, meaning very soon we could be looking at a one-point gap between these two sides. This is the conclusion of a decent year’s work for a man who has been working against so many forces trying to undermine him. Three FA Cup finals in four seasons, 19 years of unbroken Champions League qualification, the new stadium, the titles and the good times, and now this wholesome victory against the hottest manager in the world. Don’t expect too much praise on the fan channel. They are Arsenal fans but need a crisis to attract attention. The more Wenger wins, the less they’ll have to say. www.m.goal.com/s/en-ng/news/4071/premier-league/2017/04/24/34882242/why-does-guardiola-get-the-leeway-thats-denied-to-wenger 1 Like |

NO BOTTLE, NO TROPHY - GUARDIOLA HAS FAILED TO LIVE UP TO THE HYPE IN FIRST MAN CITY SEASON Sam Lee The Catalan is by no means the root of the club's problems but there will no be doubts - externally at least - that he can put them right COMMENT Pep Guardiola will continue to try to do what he was brought to Manchester City to do, but his job will not have been made any easier after another big game went begging. Alexis sends Arsenal into FA Cup final The Catalan insisted in the build-up to this FA Cup semi-final clash with Arsenal that he would leave it for the journalists to decide if he has failed in his first season at the Etihad Stadium. There will be many, in the media and in the stands, who will have made up their minds after this defeat, coming as it did against Arsene Wenger's brittle outfit. Indeed, the first trophy-less season of Guardiola's managerial career would suggest he has struggled to adapt to the English game, or that his possession-based game will never work here. The reality, here at Wembley and across many other major games this season, is not quite so straightforward. City yet again had enough chances to put the game out of sight before their opponents managed to drag themselves up off the canvas and land a sucker-punch. Guardiola was so angry with his side's performance against the Gunners in the league earlier this month that he has let his feelings become known in public, which is rare. On several occasions since he has bemoaned the performance, saying he "never wants to see my team play like that again" and, in the Wembley programme, spelled out again that his team "forgot to play". His message in private, immediately before this game and the days leading up to it, would have simply been: "Do not do that again". Yet they did. Not for long, but long enough. Sergio Aguero scored an excellent breakaway goal but City allowed the Gunners a foothold in the game again and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's delightful cross was converted by Nacho Monreal, who had been doubling up alongside Alexis Sanchez on Jesus Navas. Still want to join City, Alexis?! Navas, at least, has put in some spirited performances despite not being good enough. He has too many team-mates who are also struggling, or faring even worse. If it is ultimately decided that Guardiola has failed this season, a large share of the blame must be taken by those responsible for leaving the squad so short thanks to years of questionable purchases. City need a raft of new players and that has been evident for months. Quality, young and versatile recruits are needed to drastically upgrade the defence and, as was made plain at Wembley, add much-needed depth to the squad in attacking areas. City also need battle-hardened winners, and how inevitable it was when Alexis, the man they hope to sign this summer, stabbed in an extra-time winner just seconds after a tiring Aguero was taken off and replaced by Fabian Delph, who was later put through on goal but could not convert when it mattered. That has been the story of the season. Guardiola, while bemoaning his side's fragility when in leading positions, says his side are better after a setback. That was again evidenced when Yaya Toure and Fernandinho hit the frame of the goal at 1-1, and when Kevin De Bruyne flashed one just wide of the post after Delph's miss. In the end, though, Wenger's men did more than enough to be declared deserved winners. That those players have too often been accused of going missing, or even not playing for their manager, it does not say a great deal about the mentality of their City counterparts. Indeed, if it were not for the sheer amount of new players needed this summer, the task of instilling a winning mentality in this team would be Guardiola's most demanding. It seemed like a change of tack when he said ahead of the match that, "Winning or not winning isn't going to change too many things about the perspective of our future, what we are going to do." After all, he has talked so often about changing the club's mentality by playing in the biggest games, and winning them. Guardiola, while millions debate whether he has failed or not, will remain fully committed to what he wants to do and, most importantly, how he wants to do it. But the look of despair on his players' faces at full-time suggests he will have a formidable job on his hands to convince them to go again. He thought he had done it after losing at Monaco, but despite a full-spirited display just three days later a draw was the best City could muster and, in all, they have failed to beat Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal twice since their European elimination. Guardiola did quickly seem to go back on what he had earlier said to acknowledge the role winning a trophy would have as he bids to convince his players to follow his lead: "It would put in the hearts and heads of my players how good they are. I said many times with them, but they still don't believe how good they are. Winning titles helps you a lot." Clearly, they will not get that help this season. Yet, while those around City seem to have had at least one eye on the summer and beyond, there is the increasingly difficult prospect of a Manchester derby up next, on Thursday night. Guardiola needs to make his players believe they are good enough to play his way, a way that has, let it not be forgotten, brought both unprecedented success to Barcelona and joy to millions around the world, and a playing style that established Bayern as a force in world football. City make history with fourth sub New players will help in that regard but once again the Catalan will need to make do with what he has got. The derby is next but, since beating United at Old Trafford in September, City have played well in their big matches but taken one point off Tottenham, none from Chelsea, one from Liverpool and three from Arsenal - thanks to their only win against a top side - as well as losing to the Gunners here in the cup. Not to mention a failure to win a Champions League away game, and a collective lack of bottle when it mattered in the south of France. Given the shortcomings of the squad it would be harsh to write this season off as a failure, or at least to say their manager has failed. More time is required, and that has been obvious for months. PLAY But City have consistently failed to win their games against the best teams, which is why they are in this situation. Surely now it cannot be disputed that Guardiola's debut campaign has at least been a major disappointment. A place in the top four is now the best possible outcome. Beating United on Thursday would surely see to that, but there are no guarantees they will. Whatever happens this week and in the weeks to come, there will be a lingering sense of doubt among many pundits and fans that Guardiola is able do the job he was brought here to do. But it is the players Guardiola must convince, and as soon as possible. www.m.goal.com/s/en/news/8/main/2017/04/23/34863732/no-bottle-no-trophy-guardiola-has-failed-to-live-up-to-the?ICID=HP_HN_4 |

Meanwhile, Hazard will also be working on the whole “selfish” thing, too. "Fabregas is not the only one to say that to me."
