that is the the problem with the USA, their media are too powerful and influential, but to be honest, the somalia incident wasn't even a war, the casualties were inevitable cos they were in hostile territory, outgunned, outnumbered, lacking logistic support, it was just a bad move that boomeranged real bad.

those scientists who aren't bonded to uncle Sam are mostly civvy consultants working on some minute section of a project whose big picture they are not allowed to see and whose ultimate application they wouldn't be able to piece together! the ones who are indispensable to the big picture have their entire social network outside work co-opted into project America so uncle Sam holds their balls by proxy and can squeeze out as much nut juice as they please and there is also the non disclosure agreement they have to sign irrespective of country of origin which is legally enforceable and which when breached, uncle Sam enforces with gusto given as you say, these people already know too much

yes I remember Chinese fought back in nk uniforms back to the dmz, while Russians took to the air ,but the us never held out ,they retreated not just for the numbers, they was tactically inferior at that point not forgetting they had to put up a spirited fight to keep the borders in it's position from a full NK regiment after they punched through the old border
