I wonder what makes d yorubas think that they are superior to igbos in education. Imo state for over 20 yrs have had d highest number of applicants with a great margin.
Secondly, the WAEC performance of South Eastern states is impressive. See the links below
https://www.google.no/amp/s/www.naij.com/amp/720205-south-east-states-top-waec-result-ranking-zamfara-yobe-come-last-see-full-ranking.html

The cut off mark for National Common entrance is d highest for South East with Imo and Anambra having the highest even more tha d so called Ekiti state. Check d links below

Some of the yorubas should realize that their professed superiority in western education is a big lie. Before the outbreak of d civil war igbos filled d manpower need of d country at all levels. It is for this reason the first Vice Chancellors of the first university in Nigeria UI was Prof Dike and the first VC of UNILAG was Prof Eni Njoku.
Even most of the federal universities and surprisingly some state universities in d west have significant number of igbos due to their prowess in their given fields.
For example an igbo man who was adequately qualified to be VC of LASU when appointed was chased away with juju. Trust our brothers from d west as they and juju are like 5&6
http://www.currentnewsnow.com/ambode-appoints-prof-fidelis-njokanma-an-igbo-man-as-acting-vc-of-lasu/
It should be noted that d position of Delta state is due to d presence of igbos there as well.
Also come to think of it s south east with d least number of state which is 5 compared with south west with 6 and all other zones shows all who really are d most educated.
Read the link below which was a reply to FFK comments on igbos and u will see igbos have been setting the pace in almost all fields. It is very instructive to know these facts as the igbos have always been setting the pace.

You are very wrong because first of all, the data was taken based on state of origin and not state of jamb registration. So at the end of the day Jamb registration of south-west origin beats South-east origin.
The number of states make no difference to the yoruba and igbo populations.

And if you want to argue thay Igbos are also found in Delta and Rivers state, remember that Yorubas are also found in Kwara and Kogi states.
At the end of the day, Yoruba origin jamb registration would still be slightly ahead of Igbo origin jamb registration.
Ebonyi state is probably the state dragging Igbos backward.
why do it by geopolitical zones, and combine seven years. Imo, do it year by year, state by state lets see the positions occupied by the states. After everything we five states was equal to six states and you are jubilating, you should be ashamed

Apparently you did not read the post well.
whatever man, all I am saying is that there are many reasons why igbos are more educated than yorubas, if that my reason isn't valid, I can still give you ten more why that figure should favor igbos because igbos are more educated than yorubas whether you believe it or not. tongue

You lack comprehension of what you read, and you're far from being analytical in your reasoning.
To start with, the South East has only 5 states as against the 6 states of South West. For SE to have 2.59 million compared to 2.65 million enrolments of SW shows that relatively, SE has better enrolment. This is clearly seen in the average for the SE which came to 74,093 candidates for the 7 years compared to 63,017 candidates for the SW. Let me explain it better to you. It means that in the 7 years analysed, an average of 74,093 candidates registered for JAMB in each of the 5 SE states in each year compared to the average of 63,017 candidates in each of the 6 SW states. It means an average of 11,000+ more candidates registered for JAMB in each SE state compared to each SW state.
i wanted to correct them but then i thought to let them revel in their own foolery since that seems the official recession pastime of illiterate NAIRALANDERS

The Nigerian Bureau of Statistics recently released a comprehensive list of JAMB applications by Geopolitical regions / States of origin, covering a period of 7 years from (2010-2016).
What the statistics showed has been quite revealing. Figures compiled from the NBS Showed that the South West region led in the total number of Applications with 2,646,731 representing some 22.85% of all applications from the country. The South East region followed with 2,593,265 applications or 22.32% followed in turn by the South South Zone with 2,407,902 applications or 20.73%.

In the Northern region of the country, the North Central region led and was more similar to the south than to the North in terms of figures, with 2,005,319 Applications or 17.22%. The North West managed 1,210,545 or 10.41% over the six year period under review, while the North East region had the least applications with 726,000 representing some 6.23% of applications in the country.

Further analysis revealed that the South-West region led in Four of the Seven years: 2010 (24.88%), 2011 (23.33%), 2015 (22.80%), and 2016 (22.80%) - While the South East led in Three: 2012 (23.07%), 2013 (22.37%) and 2014 (22.38%).
Figures also show that the North-West and North-East have been steadily improving on their total number of candidate applications and percentage share of total national figures from 2010 where they accounted for 8.48% and 4.54% respectively to 2016 where they accounted for 12.52% and 7.65%.

Visualizations of the statistics are presented below.

Ranking of Geopolitical regions by Applications numbers | % of National Figures

1 - South West - 2,646,731 | 22.85%

2 - South East - 2,593,265 | 22.32%

3 - South South - 2,407,902 | 20.73%

4 - North Central - 2,005,319 | 17.22%

5 - North West - 1,210,545 | 10.41%

6 - North East - 726,000 | 6.23%

http://www.nigerianstat.gov.ng/report/517

Regional scrutinization of the figures shows that Oyo state led the pack in the South-West, closely followed by Osun and Ogun. Imo state led in the Southeast by a large margin, followed by Anambra and Enugu.
In the North-central, Kogi state led followed closely by Benue and Kwara. In the North-West, Kaduna led, followed by Kano and Katsina trailing in a distant third position, while in the Northeast, Taraba state led, followed by Adamawa and then Gombe.

Nationally, the top 15 states were: Imo, Delta, Oyo, Osun, Anambra, Edo, Ogun, Enugu, Kogi, Ondo, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Kwara, Kaduna and Abia- in that order.
Surprisingly, very populated states like Rivers, Kano and Lagos did not rank in the top 15, with Kano the most populated state in the country ranking at 17th- only one place above Ekiti the 30th most populated state in the country but which was seated far (12 places) higher than its population position rank would suggest, at 18th position.

Median, Imo state presents average of 130,000 students seeking university education a year.

But federal Character has allowed only one federal university to Imo state, FUT Owerri (FUTO).

Let's say FUTO takes in 10,000 students; Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) takes in 5,000 a year, then other universities take another 30,000 a year. Where do the other 85,000 Imo state people seeking university education end up?

In true countries, governments provide education infrastructures more in areas they are needed than others. But in Nigeria no.

You may be right about the state of origin thingy. I didn't think of that, but that still doesn't cancel out the fact that the South West has 6 states while the South East has 5. Absolute population of the SW is higher than the SE. Igbos have never argued that they are more populous than Yorubas.
The average state enrolment for the SE is over 11,000 more than that of the SW. That's what will matter more to a statistician.
Moreover, a difference of less than 60,000 more enrolments over 7 years isn't a big deal, you know. Also, never forget that the SE recorded more enrolments in 2012 to 2014. It means that if the analysis had been done for only 5 years starting from 2012 to 2016, the difference might not have been significant.

Appealing to the federal government of Nigeria:
Imo state needs another federal university. But wait, until Gov.Okorocha goes out of office, if not, he shall place the new university in Owerri, in Owerri which already hosts all the five government universities and polytechnics in Imo state. Okorocha says he is building a mega city in Owerri; he is inviting every Imo person to come and claim Owerri as their city.
