I seriously doubt the veracity of such news.

You should rather doubt if Nigeria has surplus USD $ 600 million to splash like owambe party spray money on the Super Tuscano aeroplanes in this hour of biting economic recession.

MoD and NAF budgets 2015 supplementary, then 2016 and 2017 budgets all talk about only Superb Mushak light planes, you see any Tuscano inside three consecutive budgets?

Since 2015 Buhari has travelled to USA to renew demand for the Tuscano plane did you see defence budget USD $600 m in 2016 budget or 2017 budget? Buhari will slap America mouth juju collect the planes waka commot for free?

Only if Trump does not fall for Buhari tactics using Abacha loot $550m will change story to looking for money to pay in small pieces. NAF say they are ready for the planes now, so show us budget provision USD $600 million for Super Tuscano 2015-2017

surely, I wonder what Africa would look like if the British had this attitude and interests the French have toward their former colonies.

The reason why I said I doubted the authenticity of the news in the first place was that it sounded too good to be true. Plus, I don't think Americans will ever be willing to give back such money to us. They prefer it remain domicile in their country.
I pray the news is real myself sha.
Anyways, extend my greetings to Justice Nkanu Walter Onoghen for me.

Bros, common sense is enough for us to know that Nigeria can't order 3 Jf17. It was the same budget that said 4 Mi35m helicopters and 3 Tucanos but the order was actually 12 Mi35m and 12 super Tucanos plus more from Brazil.

Having read the widely circulated 3 JF17 for us, Me, like even the most Nigeria hating Nigerian, knew deep down that there would be more. At worst the thought was 3 JF17' would be preliminary units.

Still, we were never going to purchase more than Pakistan. They could've dispatched our comparatively small amount of units first not to mention the urgency of our situation. No sentimentality here. Our use could have been their international evaluation.

You too like this plane.... I don't think NAF has ever shown interest in it. I wonder what NAF has against Russian fighters. I once read somewhere that there was a political issue between Nigerian and Russia/Soviets arriving from the sale of mig-21s back in days

Our best shot for Air superiority or additional multirole fighters(I will be so glad to see additional aircraft operating with the jf17) will be from Russia. China can't offer anything else apart from the J10 for now as her flankers are not for sale.

In my opinion, if the economy does not grow to a certain stage, say 800 billion dollars and our threats continue to be a LICW sort of threat the likely hood of Nigeria buying another multi-role jet apart from the JF-17 is very, very slim.

Remember we would have to buy trainers, also remember we would also have to buy transport planes. We would also need transport helicopters and upgrade our air defences.

The advantage which the JF-17 brings or would bring is, it can be upgraded to the latest available block.

The growth rate isn't even much now. What of the Navy? Are we expecting more vessels?

I mean what about the navy, there is also the navy and army. The navy would need new ships, Frigates, Corvettes , Missile boats and submarines.

The navy would also need Hydrograpic ships, mine-hunters and logistics ships, including anti-submarine helicopters.

What about the army, also secret police and regular police.

The truth is, as much as i would like a new jet, it might never happen if we go for the JF-17s.

With growth so low, we are even in a more precarious position. If Nigerian taxation continues to be the lowest in the world, I'm really not hopeful.

The economy was a disaster in 2016, I just hope we start growing this year.

I also have this love for the 34, very potent and se.xy jet, the nose(housing the radar) and the Cockpit alone could kill.

Patches, Henry, Nemesis2u, tdayof and Airborne360 could contribute their Life savings and salaries and just get me one... grin grin Merely seeing one at my backyard would suffice. cheesy cheesy

On a serious note, I don't think this generation of NAF decision makers have any "feelings" for it...maybe due to Threat assessment and Requirement.

I think the military might not even be the problem. I believe the problem is from the political class.

Buying a fighter jet is not like buying a car bro. Every country have requirement and that is why you have different variant of every fighter jet for different countries. The NAF have unique problem which is different from that of the Pakistani and we need the dual seat version for our pilots to get used to the JF17 before flying the single seat variant. The Pakistani themselves still use a stimulator to fill the role despite having 4th generation fighter jets.

This might be partially true but then, The political class knows virtually nothing about the Military world.
I believe the military knows what they want. There's no way, bro, that the Airforce(for instance) will say we need this so so so Jet, "based on our threat assessment" and having gone through its Pros and Cons, it's the best craft we need to do the job, the Political class won't dictate to them what to get.

(Abi shey people wey dey call Gunship as Gunboat sabi anything? The 'best and greatest' gun(in the Assault category) to the political class is the AK47 grin That's the best they know of).

The thing they can do is to tell them there's no money or that they should find something similar that can get the job done in the mean time. grin
(This is still back to Square one cheesy )

Funny enough, did you guys noticed any difference in the way we run the country and the way we run our homes cheesycheesycheesy
