Before Donald got into power, the ranch had been. Recall past heads of states like IBB and others use to spend vacations there. All over the world before Duke came into power tourists have been besieging the place long before the era of Duke.
In fact, up till now most white people from western nations still reside there.

Granted, Duke came to improve infrastructures and gave it some more noise. But he did not originate it the way some people

In fact, former President, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, spent a complete one week vacation up there around 1981/82, when he was president; with a copper bringing stuffs daily from the then capital, Lagos, to the Government field at Obudu, while an Obudu Local Government Council vehicle would take them up the hill to him. The road up the Ranch was an intermittent one-way road until SGEN, a French Construction Company, engaged by FGN, expanded and asphalted the road, making it possible for vehicles to go either way, bypassing each other simultaneously. That was between 1979 - 82. The outstanding things Donald Duke did were the cable car project, swimming pool, Upgraded accommodation and Bebi Airstrip.

And FRSC ranks the road leading to the mountain top as one of the safest in Nigeria
flex04:
Obudu is a popular name on people’s lips in Nigeria. However, even with how popular this destination is, there are still a couple of things that are misconceived or unknown about the place. To fill in the gap, Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency, shares 5 things you probably didn’t know about Obudu.

It’s a Local Government Area and Town

Once the name ‘Obudu’ is mentioned, a number of people assume it’s the Obudu Mountain Resort that is either being referred to or being shortened to the form ‘Obudu’. However, this is not always the case. Obudu is actually a Local Government Area and town in Cross River State, Nigeria, that features the Obudu Mountain Resort (formerly called Obudu Cattle Ranch) among other features and recreational facilities.

It Has a Dam

The town of Obudu is downstream from the Obudu Dam which provides recreational facilities for people in the area. The dam is located within the Obudu crystalline basement plateau and was commissioned in 1999 for use in farm irrigation, fishing, and for recreational and tourism purposes.

It has a Plateau

The Obudu plateau is found on the Oshie Ridge of the Sankwala Mountain range in Cross River State. The Obudu Mountain Resort (formerly called Obudu Cattle Ranch) was developed on this plateau. The plateau is found in the Obanliku local government area of Cross River state and is a giant massif spread over an area of over 40 square miles and rises to about 5200 ft above sea level, with its peak reaching to a height of about 1,716 metres above sea level. The plateau is known to a habitat of rare species of birds.

It Hosts an International Mountain Race

It called the Obudu Ranch International Mountain Race and it’s an annual mountain running competition that takes place in late November in Obudu. The race is known as the ‘World’s Richest Mountain Race’ because it has the largest total prize money available of any mountain race. The race is an associate member race of the World Mountain Running Association (WMRA) and endorsed by the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF). However, in 2015, due to huge financial challenges the government of the state indefinitely suspended the race.

It has a Nearby Airstrip

The Airstrip is called Bebi Airstrip. It’s an airstrip serving Bebi in Nigeria and it also serves as the airport for the Obudu Mountain Resort. It’s runway is 18 kilometers east of the town of Obudu and the airstrip primarily serves as the aviation gateway to the Obudu Ranch resort. This makes Cross River state the only state in Nigeria with a flight route connecting two operational airports within the state.

Don't be mislead by all those things you read online.
omg, i have a biz there and lately, all my workers have been complaining of theft. just 3 days ago, they snatched my company vehicle at gun point, but it was recovered.
dude dont you listen to news?
do you know that they burn more arm robbers and thieves there than almost any other state?
do you know that cultism death rate there is very high now.
even kidnappings now happen there.
compare this govt and that of donald duke or liyel imoke.

All this things you mentioned are not alien to any other state in the country. I mean Compared to Lagos, Port Harcourt, Edo and IMO state man Cross river is a safe haven.

interesting. How did you find the place? What tips would you give to a nature enthusiast planning a trip to the location? What sites would you find wildlife, great views and the likes?

he's correct to an extent but not to discourage visitors. I've read about kidnap and robbery incidents in that LG in the news in recent months. Also, incessant cult clashes leading to bloodbaths in Odukpani LG.

Poor management has killed Obudu Range Resort. That was Donald Duke's innovation but after Liyel Imoke too over everything got mismanaged and now the almighty confused governor Ayade without clues on running the government is doing worst.

its fun to b.I doubt there is a wildlife reserve there except u will descend down the ranch to a village called belegete its not bikeable or motorable you would have to descend down and its like 4 hours. There u would even get to c monkeys on the way. Always have it at the back of your mind that the only place u get network is upranch.
