patches689: When we bought those submarines, it wasn't because of any naval threat. It was just to keep the capability we had acquired post WW2 because if we had lost it then we would never have it again. The Nigerian Navy would need to starve the entire military to have and maintain half the things Henry listed. 2 Likes |

giles14: No its not. In fact I'd say developing your own light aircraft (based on existing essentials) and arming it (with foreign missiles and bombs) will still be cheaper than buying 12 Tucs for that exorbitant fee. 1 Like |

nyaber33: Thanks,nyaber33! There aren't nearly enough KDF pics in here. If I'm not wrong that chamber in the navy pics is a ship borne decomp chamber for divers to neutralise nitrogen buildup in the bloodstream from long dive sessions. Would you know whatever happened to the Indian Saryu corvette I expected 2 yrs back? Is it en route? Recently the KN bought a bridge simulator which may be part of the deal. Delhi-headquartered ARI Simulation, which manufactures high-specification sophisticated simulation systems used in training, screening, feasibility analysis and process development, has announced that it has successfully completed the manufacturing of a suite of warship bridge simulators for the Kenyan navy under a Danish-Kenyan cooperation arrangement.http://www.financialexpress.com/industry/ari-simulation-to-deliver-simulators-to-kenyan-navy/231084/

kikuyu1: thats because KDF has very strict guidelines and rules about taking media of its operations, any pics or videos has to be approved before its released to the public ,you wont see any pics of soldiers posing or taking pictures using their own devices thats why you will rarely see pics or videos of KDF operations , or of dead terrorists KDF has neutralized in fact they have a rule against releasing pictures of the dead 2 Likes |

broill33r: Not necessarily. I think the problem is KDF just has very bad PR. Africaken254 who used to post Kenya and East Africa content has been chased away.

THE CHIEF OF THE AIR STAFF UNDERTAKES AN OPERATIONAL VISIT TO YOLA The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal SB Abubakar, undertook a routine operational visit to the Nigerian Air Force unit in Yola on 29 April 2017. The primary purpose of the visit was to ascertain the state of readiness of facilities being put in place to operate and maintain some of the recently acquired platforms by the Nigerian Air Force. The visit revealed that most of the facilities were indeed ready. The apron had been expanded to provide more maneuverability for the increased number of aircraft while taxiing on ground. Additional shelters being constructed for the new aircraft were also nearly completed. The Chief of the Air Staff equally inspected the Liquid Oxygen (LOX) Plant that was being constructed to facilitate the supply of Liquid Oxygen for use by Nigerian Air Force fighter pilots. It is noteworthy that upon completion of the plant, the Nigerian Air Force would be able to supply Liquid Oxygen for use by surrounding hospitals. Air Marshal Abubakar seized the opportunity of the operational visit to directly interact with the Nigerian Air Force personnel in the frontline towards addressing their welfare needs.

ActivateKruger: True, but step by step is possible. 1. Acquire a hydrographic survey vessel to map out your own and neighbouring coastal zones 2. Make sure your economy grows to afford at least 2 SSKs plus a critical Shore based sub support facility for maintenance, refuelling, stocking etc.etc,at least 800mn$ plus another minimum 200mn$ for the ShbSuSF with all required facilities no to mention rotaries for anti subtraining. Also training a cadre of at least 250-300 guys,or 2 crews for each sub, also allowing for natural attrition. The Yuan, first one costs 600mn$ with a 20 mn$ annual upkeep. The 2nd is the French Andrasta, specifically designed for first timers at 400 mn$ upkeep 6mn yearly. The mini sub,the SMX 26 costs 150 mn$ ,annual maintenance 3mn$!! Basically, there's no easy way to get into the sub biz! If you have the sub running ability, don't lose it! 1 Like

kikuyu1:Nakuget, but for the sake of this thread, everyone comes here because they are patriotic about their own country, in extension their region ... And even the continents rising military.... But not all the countries are represented here... We might have an opinion and an idea about a certain country based on the info that we have...but someone from that country could have a totally different explanation thus we should avoid summarising some countries in offensive ways especially if they are not in a platform to defend their Honors...lets use kind(er) words that dont offend the people...I wouldn't want some guy in the west to summarise my country in some forum based on what he perceive he/she knows... 1 Like |

broill33r: The reason KDF is very secretive is because the top brass use secrecy as a cover to hide their massive amount of corruption. That's why in a country of about 43 ethnic groups the military is dominated by one, the presidents, which make up close to 50% of the personel. And unlike western/ developed countries the generals are morbidly obese with huge fat guts because they don't even have the discipline to control their own eating 1 Like |
